Might be the simplest movie I've seen
1 October 2021
Not sure what brought me to this flick, but I read some reviews and decided to give it a shot one morning. Definitely not disappointed. I think there are 5 people seen on screen with talking parts, one you might recognize if you saw "Scareface" and a couple other pass byes. Props to the ladies who got this done. Proof that you can do it if you try hard enough. I will be watching for them again.

a fine little vehicle for Cliff

Just watched the this little movie from netflix. I'm not sure what I rated on their system that had them recommend this one to me but they did, I checked it and am glad to have done so. It is nice to see a well acted, be it slow, character driven movie were nothing blows up, there are no fights and no green screen used. John Ratwhatever is outstanding as the older man who has lost what matters most to him, his wife and still has to muddle through his day to day life. One reviewer referred to him as unlikeable which I do not see, he is just left walking through life. The young lady who comes to work for him in his barbershop and shows him that he still has something to give is more then adequate. There is no heavy handed message here, just a little indi movie about people and their lives.

ouch

Best news of the year for Sandra Bullock was that this movie came out after The Proposal and not before it. Flip flop them and that fine, funny movie might have been missed by many who saw this turkey and expected the same.

First problem, she's 44-45, she can't play someone much younger anymore even if she is the cutest little actress out there. Looks like they tried to cut 12-15 years off her age with makeup and stupid red boots. Thomas Hayden Church trying to recapture his self absorbed guy from "Sideways" is just lost as a moron news man clique. Bradley Cooper is OK as Steve but lost in this otherwise pointless movie. one positive, Katy Mixon's rack.

kept me awake
2 February 2009
I must start by explaining the summary comment. I put this in the DVD at 11:30pm after watching the Superbowl and doing the required beer drinking that goes with that. I was pretty sure I would be re-watching "Shotgun Stories" in the morning as I planned to fall asleep. I was amazed that a very slow moving, no real action to speak of movie did such a great job of keeping my interest up. Kicked it out of the DVD at 1:00am, reminded myself to find out who the star was and see what else he had been in since I do not remember him from anything. Michael Shannon is a great friggin actor. I had no interest at all in "Revolutionary Road" but will see it now just to watch his Oscar nominated work.

"Shotgun Stories" is well worth the hour and a half. You may find yourselves waiting for something big to happen and then realize it did without the gun play or explosions.

Lots of fun
2 September 2008
Just sent back to Netflix the first disc of the "Spaced" series and can't wait for the next to come. I had never heard of this show until reading a review of the DVD in Entertainment Weekley I think and thought I would give it a view since I really liked both "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. I had tried to watch "The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galasx" and could not get through it so I was a bit worried about the production value when episode 1 started but bought into the show in just a few minutes . The writing is fantastic with lots of references to American movies and culture that Pegg and Stevenson (Hynes) deliver rapid fire. The supporting cast is great with Frost, Julia Deakin, Katy Carmickael and most of all Mike Heap as Brian. I had never seen most of them, again being and American here in the States but will be adding some of there other work to my Netflix Queue.

Overall, well worth the time and effort to find as long as you remember they didn't spend a fortune on each episode. Script and cast make "Spaced" top notch.
