Gaming Wall St: Lifting the Veil (2022)
Terrible
The fact that this was allowed out of pre-production is embarrassing for both HBO, the participants, and most notably the production company.
I am not one to often comment on IMDB posts, but I am happy to do so when I see something as horrible misrepresented as this show does.
There narrative is non-existent, trying to link the financial crises (mortgage underwriting), Madoff (fraud), with diversity an inclusion (?) as an analogy is comical.
There clearly is no understanding by the producers on the actual process of the settlement of securities, the process to short securities, or the legal exemptions the market makers have - to short without a locate.
All of this is legal.
Also, if you think the biggest problem the world has is short selling, despite the hype machine around VC and new IPOs, I don't know what to tell you.
The characters are also highly unsympathetic, including a guy who lives in his car play video games, and the other vast majority of Redditors who admit to knowing nothing about actual stock analyses and analogize everything to gambling.
Save your time and watch "The Big Short".
La casa de papel (2017)
Please let me save you!
Created an account just to post this review... and hopefully save some poor souls some pain. First like many reviewers have noted, I found this show based on its impressively high IMDB rating (and after watching nearly all Netflix's original content) and made the rookie mistake of not reading the underlying comments.
First off, this show is (as many have noted) terrible, not trashy bad, or campy bad, or so bad its funny bad, just bad. I am angry with myself for watching the entire first season, hoping for some improvement - none comes. According to some people who for some reason have watched all four seasons, it really drops off after season two. I sincerely have no idea how it could possibly get worse than the first season.
I have never seen such a promising premise fall so flat on execution. The writing is stupefying, full of melodramatic dialogue, and impossible plot holes. Also, as many people have noted this is not a heist show, it's a very badly done soap opera with a heist setting. To those who wondered if the awful dialogue is the result of poor dubbing choices, I watched it with subtitles and trust me it's not.
This show is honestly, and I am not being hyperbolic here, about the level of writing as those shows that used to be on Cinemax after midnight - with a less believable plot.
To the underpaid 20-something PR flacks leaving these fake reviews, please examine your life choices and do something less sleazy, like stripping.
To Netflix, I understand you are in business to make money and having "buzz" and "hype" around content sells. But maybe save some money on your fake review troll farms and spend it on greenlighting actually good content. You have some, so I know it is possible.
The fact that as of the time of this writing the show has the same IMDB rating as "Heat", should tell everyone with a brain what is really going on here. If there is a real person here who watched both and thinks they can justify this, please let me know how.
The only positives are relatively strong production values, and some attractive people.
