Monster's Ball (2001)
Not really a ball.
I just recently viewed this film on pay per view, not really knowing much about it except the hype. It certainly lived up to its reputation that all the critics have given it. Heath Ledger's accent was a bit off to me but the rest of the cast was very moving. Billy Bob has once again transformed into a character that you cannot keep your eyes off of and Halle Berry deserves every accolade that she has gotton.
Scarface (1932)
OG of gangsta films!
Why is Paul Muni not a houselhold name? When one hears the film title, Scarface, most people automatically think of Oliver Stone's classic film with Al Pacino. Not taking anything away from Tony Montana, everyone should watch the original film that is the obvious foundation for every other gangsta film that has followed.
Soundman (1998)
Wow
My testosterone driven boyfriend just rented this film at Hollywood Video. I expected it to be a shoot-em-up bang bang thriller, but got a deep and emotional storyline instead. The actors were so realistic that I felt like I knew them all in somebody. Nick Stahl, who we just recently saw in "Bully" was adorable. The music was very nice and I really liked the dichotomy of the slow motion pictures and fast speed pictures. Very cool flick!
