Strong Girl Nam-soon (2023)
Such a letdown from the first 2 episodes. Don't waste your time.
I will say I was excited for this having seen the first strong girl series but this one was just horrid. It lacked the chemistry, comedy and action of the first one. The FL and ML had zero chemistry. The grandparent romance was just cringe and the mother had way too much screen time. The potential was there but the only good thing about the show was the supposed villain. He was so charismatic and acted so well with the little screen time he was given that I hope he becomes a ML in another aeries. Don't waste your time. It just wasn't good is what is boils down to. This was an absolute dud. I thought I wouldn't dislike any series more than Love Alarm but here were are.

A trigger warning but a brilliantly play the game of go
I won't add any spoilers, but what I will say is that there are very uncomfortable scenes with violence that I think caused some people to rate this drama lower than it should be. If you can push through it, trust me that it's well worth your time. I binge watched part one and part two as soon as they came out.
The character plays a woman now in her mid-30s who wants to seek revenge on her bullies from when she was 18 or 19 years old. Those bullies who are part of a clique of mostly rich students, picked on less fortunate students with brutal results. They were simply allowed to continue doing this and their behavior was overlooked by teachers, the authorities and even the parents of those who were bullied. What I also find interesting as a side stories of the male lead, and the other women who were all bullied.
I won't reveal more of the plot, because I think it's important for you to watch every single scene, don't miss anything. Rewatch it if you need to, all 16 episodes but open your mind, and see beyond violence.

Great comedy with 1 big flaw
I really enjoyed this comedy. The leads had an easy chemistry, more like friends that fell in love, although it appeared to be one-sided for most of the episodes. The one element I hated was the hitting. I don't like when people hit each other in these dramas, whether it's a man hitting a woman, even in jest, or a woman hitting a man. The lead female in particular kept hitting the guy which soured it a bit for me. I mean, there was even one scene where she was cleaning up his cut and blaming him for her hitting him. Not normal...and too many young people watch these Kdramas and it sets a bad example.

Slow burning and deep
I think that thankfully it doesn't have the toxicity of some K-dramas. The acting, cinematography, and story line are interesting and thought-provoking. I tend to only review movies and shows that I really like. The music in this series is also beautiful. Like every track. I think the lead actor is unusual looking a beautiful. His chemistry with the lead actress is off the charts. I won't give too much away, but just say to watch this with an open mind and understand that this is about love, support, forgiveness and sacrifice. Even the parts with god require a deeper understanding. Really great drama.

You'll fall in love with love again!
I really enjoyed the first half of this series especially when Jin-An and Jun-Hui start falling in love. Those scenes are so beautiful and poignant that you'll fall in love with the lead actor and actress. The series had stellar acting all around combined with some elements of the Korean culture that are taboo such as younger men and older women dating, classism, and sexism. The treatment of the women in the workplace was difficult to watch but maybe this awareness is necessary and it's bold of the writers and director to bring this to the screen. I felt that this was a stellar ensemble cast from the colleagues to the Jin-A's brother and Jun-hui's sister.
The mother in the series was difficult to watch. I grew to both dislike her and appreciate her acting abilities. The father was such a contrast but like many men he went along with his wife to keep the peace.
One thing I absolutely hate is that Stand By Your Man song. I would love to watch this series again but it was so hard because I felt the song messed up song of the most beautiful schemes. I just press mute now. Netflix seriously needs to replace that music. Terrible. That's my one complaint. Replace that song!
Run On (2020)
Love makes people change and grow
I saw a lot of comments about the main character being bland. I think most people misunderstood him. I think Siwan played the role brilliantly. He's In the public eye with a famous family so he keeps his emotions in check. He has a poker face on most of the time except when standing up for others like against his teammates, for his sister and his lady. He grew up in a house by himself without his parents so he's not use to affection and showing his feelings. The leading lady being an orphan and having to fight to make it in life is almost the polar opposite and it's beautiful to see how they help each other, first with friendship and then with love.
I also loved how Dan-Ah opened up and fell in love with the artist. Such great chemistry. Watch with an open mind. I haven't watched many K-dramas so maybe I'm more objective as this shows two different ways to fall in love.

Started out good and took a left turn
It started with a good premise. Two friends fall in love with the same girl. I've been there before as a high school student. One friend had to decide to move on once the other one gets involved with the girl. This never happened and it got weird with this Love Alarm shield and then sword. The 2nd guy who she didn't even remember from work ends up still chasing her after his best friend was involved with her and she broke his heart. I just think there are too many negative and toxic things including the ex who couldn't let go. Disappointing and I wasn't rooting for the couple who ended up together. Terrible writing. I rated it a 7 at first then lowered it to a 5.

A slow burn romance
There are so many elements in this movie. The guy who is a star but doesn't have money because he's been taking care of his family's problems since he was a child. The girl who has a dream to play the violin professionally but is a late bloomer and as a result is behind everyone else. She becomes friends with the star pianist and then they later fall in love. Complicated by the fact that both of them had feelings for others when they first met. It's a realistic portrayal of how people really develop feelings from friendship into more, complicated by outside forces. The lead actress was a bit of a doormat but it was powerful to see her change. The soundtrack was excellent.
The fact that we never see his father and that his mother kept enabling his dad didn't sit well with me. The part I didn't like was the violinist Ms. Na being so mean to her boyfriend of 10 years when he was nothing but kind to her.
The Harder They Fall (2021)
Black Western with a great cast and soundtrack
I really enjoyed this movie. It made me think of Quentin Tarantino until I remember that he was inspired by black westerns and blaxploitation movies which is where this movie stems from. It didn't have the jive talk or the n-word which I was happy to see. I'm not sure why the rating is so Lowe but some people have obviously not seen the movie. My one criticism is that Idris Elba should have had a more central role and there should have been a backstory on him.
