The Witcher (2019)
Want to love it... but
Binging into Season 2 I'm massively dissapointed.
I have read the books, not really played the game and is now watchin the series. It's just so strangely paced. Even with the plot from the books i find the dialouges boring and lacking of information. The mail problem is that i have a hard time staying awake. I probably dozed of to every episode in Season 2.
It's such a shame. I really want to love it and the potential is great, but is't poorly executed, but then again: the last couple of books in the series seem to equally incoherent, and seems to rushed to a deadline.
On the Bright side: Geralt is portraited quite well.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
true to the books
I like it, but i've read the books some years ago. It's very ture to the books and especially the characters are very close to how i remember them. After 6 episodes the personality of the character have barely begun to unfold, but they are heading in the rigt direction
In some way sit a bit slow pace, but one have to keep in mind that it's a 13 book series and a lot of the things that seem insignificant now will later contribute to the overall plot.
The scenery and cinematography are simply stunning and the descriptions of the Whitecloaks and the Aes Sedai are spot-on.
I very much look forward to how this is going to unfold. The books can tend to dweel to much on detalis and subplots, and it is my hope that teh tv-show will cut away those fillers:-)
Designated Survivor (2016)
Good idea, bad script
Im a bit embarrassed to admit that I have just finished season 2. You will like it if you are very stupid and ignorant.
The basic idea about about the designated survivor ending up as president is good, but the execution is poor.
Off course there is political issues and a big conspiracy and some spy business, but its so poorly written. Sometimes, more often than not, the characters end up making really bad choices just som you can have som suspense, and still the suspense is not really there.
It really for someone who has at hangover and dont want to think to much, because if you start thinking about it, it all seem so stupid and unrealistic.
If you like me, have been confined to bed due to at harsh flu, this might keep you going, coz it's not very demanding, but if you are on top of your game and know at little about politics, spybusiness and hacking you wont like it. Even with a bad hangover it's still very predictable.
SPOILER: in Season 2 the villain gives the president a present in the oval office. The present stays there, but it not before the President himself suspekt there is a bug that it is discovered, because he asks for bugsweep.
COME ON! The oval office is swept for bug by Secret Service ALL THE TIME. To explain to us stupid people the president is even so nice that lift up the item and removes the bud, which is on the bottom for all to see, just in case we cannot understand that the present is bugged.
Dominion (2014)
Don't waste your time
i have seen the 1st season.
acting is bad and the story is pretty lame to. It never takes you to a point where you actually starts liking or disliking any of the characters. The have no personality whatsoever.
The world presented to you just does not work. Its very far from believable. Humanity is threatened by a bunch of angels who is as old as existence, but behaved like teenagers who ave lost their leash. Maybe that's how they are in the bible, but I doubt it but if it is so they should still update the fairytale.
Don't waste your time. so many better shows out there
Ghosts of Cité Soleil (2006)
gangstas rising above their idols
Its a couple of years since I saw this docuflick, so what you get here is the essence that stuck in my memory.
The two brothers and main characters are living idolizing a gangsta lifestyle and are far more gangstas than the celebrity gangstas that they idolize. These are the real gangstas from real life Partly by choice but even more by need of survival, their fascination with with the celebrity gangstas most of all represent the dream of surviving their present situation (with success). The potentially lethal and ever present tension with their surrounding environment and each other, is something that I have never seen like this in a documentary. they seem to have no choice but aggression. As a viewer you get the feeling that any sign of weakness shown by the main characters will bring them closer to death but so will their aggressiveness. This film made the African child soldier "Johnny Mad Dog" much more realistic for me.
This movie is not without flaws, but portraying it as a movie with a political agenda is a mistake. Its a movie about desperate people interacting in a poor, violent and desperate environment. The frame of the story happens to be Aristides Haiti but it could have been a lot of places.
The 9-star rating is due to the very close and personal relationship between the camera and the characters and the danger that the makers of this movie has exposed themselves to.
The Warrior's Way (2010)
Cut with a dull knife
Very a-b-c
The storyline is predictable, the acting is poor and the whole movie is set in some low end budget studio. The script is just clichés piling on top of each other.
The only reason to go see this movie is the fight scenes. The problem with them is that they are not very good.
With less gore it would maybe be a good movie for some 10 year old wanna be samurai with absolute zero sense of reality.
This is pure waste everybodys time and of the $45million price tag.
2 stars because i have actually seen worse.
The Mechanic (2011)
Predictable and unauthentic
The plot is good. At least I fondly remember seeing the original with Charles Bronson as a kid. I did not now this was a remake before the final scene as i was quite young when i saw the Bronson flick.
The problem with "the mechanic" (2011) is that the characters and their motivations are very hard to believe. They all act stupid and irrational and are very easy to deceive.
Jason Stathams acting is barely reaching Steven Seagal level. In my world thats a bad thing. A stone face some snarls and fast punching is not acting.
The only guy that sticks out is Ben Foster, but why did they write him to be so stupid and one dimensional like the rest of the lot? You don't really need complex character building in action movies but then again: this to slow to be an action movie.
Just a warning: If you are hung over or for some other just feel like watching some mindless action, then this is not the flick for you.
I give it 3 stars. 2 for keeping me interested for about 20 minutes and the final star because IMDb ratings are generally forgiving.
Sorry for my English. Its not my 1st language and it's a bit rusty.
