Violent Night (2022)
Santa Claus, the movie meets Die Hard meets Home Alone meets Vikings/Scream?
Title says it all... yeah its gore, maybe a bit over which drag downs.
Kinda some 90s guy wake up... hey what were all the best movies in the 90s? Both from Santa claus (aka "Santa Claus, the movie"), Die Hard (of course), Home Alone (well, no brainer if you want to do a holiday parody)....
Not seen Thor, but seen Vikings.... so can grab some paralells. However I believed St. Nicolaus were Turkish... but maybe a viking that found a new way in TUrkey...
Nope not your tear wet movie... And ABSOLUTELY should maybe be rated 18+. But definetly a movie to watch before/in christmas with a cag of beer, and good friends have experienced the fine movies of the 90s.
2067 (2020)
Worth to watch - skip if your a science nerd.
Scientificly... nope...theory of time machines do not depend on old nuclear reactors... rather than implementing a lot of "exoctic mass" meaning building science on matter not yet known to mankind. Kind of surfing on time and gravity bubbles (now, does not that sound like something to make a movie about ....
Kept on a 7 due to some of the old protagonist in there. It builds on some previous plots, but introduce some new ones.
But build a little on some other good sci-fi movies in last couple of years, and if you liked them... You will like this one.
Some interesting twists... If you are on the soft side you may shed some tears.
Final Score (2018)
not a Footie fan, love Die Hard/Speed/AF1 storyline, but trying to figure the match AND the story...
Almost becoming a West ham supporter here... :)
True, play on the Die Hard/Speed/AF1 baseline (extreme good police/soldier with a next of kin in the hard zone). But nicely played into US/UK rivaly ("its football, not soccer"), getting a (probably) realistic rivalry of SAS and Metro Police into the picture...
Realistic.. nope... Fun? Hell yes (like grab another beer and a big bag of popcorn fun)..., A couple of sublime mentions you probably need to know UK humor to smile of? Absolutely... Some tough teen girls and (absolutely fantastic) minorities - yes! (and with some crazy surprises!).
Guess this lands either side of the fence depending on background (do you say football or soccer?)...
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Started off like "lets see how they messed up my childhood heros"...
Starting off quite like "ok, netflix... this showed up.. started off just clicking over boring scenes, wanted to see my childhood toys... after that... I were smiling on the humor... but still respect for the "old guys"... (and a grandparent teaching his never seen grandchild a trick or two).
"Emotional story" could be more in depth, but need to remember the audience is the same as us when we watched the movies and series 6-12 years old... And the movie hits both the parent (and maybe even grandparent?) generation (telling the kids; you know what that is... thats a trap...) AND the new generation (the kids rules it).
For a family comedy with a lot of "80s" references but still kickers new CGI and 20s "smartphones and everything"... it hits the spot.
Sorry I dont live in an english speaking country and kids still a bit to young to read quick subtitles. But will defiantly bring this up with the kids in a year or two.
Renegades (2017)
Fun, "almost"" accurate, based on true story
Had to find out if the sunk city were true. It is, and as far as I understood the diving scenes are partly filmed on location.
I am not SpesOps, but hardly believe two recognized services (SAS/SEAL) would bash together... put the "US is best" for US audience, but agree many skips then if not hardcore US-fan. Would probaly be more useful if this were a joint US/UK "renegade" movie (again, some of its true - and probaly some friendly rivaling here).
Dive scenes ALMOST accurate... the technical sides of scuba to apperantly 40+ meters and bottom depth/decompression are discussed. However, some long dives with single bottles, no stage bottle, and some "jojo-diving" again kill some of the realism...
Oh, they drive a tank through town... with no training... and just arrange some airlifts... so if you look for most realistic movie... well... no... James Bond meets 80/90s Navy Seals/Delta team movies meets Kelly Heros... But no Steven Segal or Bruce Willis "single man does it all" (still fun)...
3 Days to Kill (2014)
If your a parent - you will love it.. Not your typical Spy movie
Started watching, and it had some cliches...
But it builds on you, and the story lines how "bad guys" connect with "good guys" over pickup times for kids, where to find them at night...At the same time connecting maybe after a long period of overseas work (Even to support them financial, its not enough).
Started with "put a bullett to their head", but as a parent, you think wow, if I would be in either side of this business, I hope we at least could agree to try to meet pickup and dinner times...
I think the bad reviews are probaly by people not worrying about these issues day by day.
Greenland (2020)
Personal over Special effects
The special effects are kept to a "minimum" of what is needed to describe a plausible astroide effect, and that minimum underlines the personal stories.
Its not a movie for the ones expecting heroisme aka spacewalks, nuclear rockets and so on.
I would rather put it in the category of "the day after", "threads" for those who are familiar with pre/post nuclear war personal stories movies.
Still hollywood, put some interesting turns... For us non-US, entertaining, but I hope somebody would picture something like this from e.g. A European view. (Threads as a UK movie were good, but maybe Northern Europe, as Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Finland would "ride out" a catastrophic event).
60 Il, Jijeongsaengjonja (2019)
Plausible-tense like hell
Watched the first two series of the ABS series.. fair enough.
But this - almost to close to comfort. In Norway the teorist whos name is not spoken would almost succeed but decided to do it during vacation. That saved the Prime Minister and most of the cabinet.
This series are (based on Season 1) almost to close to comfort... Japan, US and China bringing their military... North and South trying to reconsile.
I actually fear that this story may actually be reality before we know it.... Should be mandatory for diplomats working with Korea-penisuela issues.
