Fun Sci-Fi
15 November 2023
Enjoyable if slightly retrodden subject material. For the budget the FX were well above average, I liked most of the design aspects and look of the film. It moved at a decent pace, I never felt bored watching it, in fact I'll watch it again (always a good sign).

I get some of the criticisms but it ticked all the right boxes for me enough so that I could forgive the plot holes and the odd extra stretch of my imagination. Just fun science fiction that didnt seem to take itself too seriously.

I think we should build Nomad just in case. If we wish to survive the upcoming war with AI then maybe take out ChatGP first, before its too late!

Its s journey more than anything
15 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As a footie fan from Scotland who now lives in Philadelphia I dan see similarities in the gritty passion for sports in the ordinary folks here, Robs home town. But to get into the roots of football in local communities with teams that have been around for 150 years you can times that passion multiple times...for some its everything.

I like that they both come across as genuine, and they're both likable. But its seeing them become football fans that I most enjoy...you have to be at a game...and it has to be more than some franchise that can move cities and has its stadium miles from any communities. The play- off episode is excellent, heartbreaking, but football is just that...watch the series, go to a game.

Fantastic comedy.

Hilarious, had me in stitches. Very very funny...its made like a real documentary, and if you didnt know how utterly impossible the garbage the fake documentary team were pedaling you'd miss this satirical genius of this movie.

I liked the message more than the movie

Not sure Mark was the right lead for this though he acted well, it was a cleverish reveal as well if you didnt already know the true story.

As a father if two sons I felt it though, but more because of the real tragedy, in fact there are many tragedies in this story, than the lead performance. Support actors were good.

Lol @ folks forgetting star wars is/was for kids
28 May 2022
It always was for kids...I was still just young enough to enjoy Empire when it came out after loving "a new hope" at the age of ten, but then ewoks? No chance.

Now I enjoy the star wars universe with my kids, I enjoy the Disney series probably more than any of the movies since Empire...sure the young actress us annoying af, and meant to be ten? Really? But its for kids...folks should deal with it.

Surprised

Watched it because there was nothing else on. Not a great musical fan though WSS is a classic and I enjoyed the original. Did not see the point of a remake but this is possibly an even better version of the musical. The darkness and grit clashes with the colour and hopefulness. Solid acting from the leads and great show tunes.

Felt far more adult fare and better for it.

More accurate than the original

Its not Gary Oldman, its not got the same menace as the TV play...but clothes, attitude, music, is more how I remember the period...deerstalkers, stanleys, and farah slacks, Oldman's original crew looked nothing like casuals, regardless of how well it was acted...for that this version gets 6/10 though the TV play is still far superior as a film.

Best of the new gen..

Probably my third favourite Star Wars movie after a New Hope and Empire. Not perfect but scores high due to having the same feeling and look as the original three without ewoks. Last half hour is easily as good as any in the franchise.

Best crime show on TV
26 June 2021
Gritty, realistic, never shy's away from killing off main characters once their usefulness has ended.

Has the added realism of using many actors from the Neapolitan region, which gives a real believability to some of the performances. Weirdly Naples us not Italys most dangerous or crime ridden city but youd never know it. I visited it in the early nineties and its definitely one of the few European cities you dont want to wander too far from the beaten path.

I didnt find any season weak, enjoyed them all almost equally. Season 5 may be the last which is likely appropriate. Dont forget the film "l'immortale" which is kinda a bridge between season 4 and 5...also HBO, sort out the last seasons subtitles!

One for me and the kids
20 June 2021
Ive watched Teen Titans (my kids call it the serious one), Titans (the grown up one), and this...my favourite if the three. Mindless fun, hit or miss jokes...endlessly recurring jokes...nods to the 80s...all add up to one of the few shows I can laugh along with my kids, the other being Gumball.
