A Million Miles Away (2023)
Reading some of these low reviews...
I understand that sometimes entertainment is subjective. But I have to laugh after reading through the negative reviews (which are of the minority opinion for a reason).
One review said we don't get to know the main character, his struggles, or his culture (clearly that person wasn't paying attention). Another said there is too much focus on the emotions (I guess they saw a different movie than that other guy). Several implied that the story was either boring, played out, or unrealistic. Ridiculous.
Those reviewers either A) didn't watch the movie, B) didn't understand that is based on ACTUAL PEOPLE AND EVENTS, or C) possibly are just 12 years old snots (actually or intellectually) and/or trolls.
It's an excellent movie. The acting, direction, storyline, character development, message, and feel-good moments are all on point. I LOVED it, and I think anyone with even the slightest interest in the subject matter will, too.
Severance: Good News About Hell (2022)
I'm intrigued.
When I first came to check reviews, back when the show first dropped, it was mostly people that said nothing happens, 60 minutes of nothing, boring, etc. So I waited and didn't expect much. But finally I decided to give it a go, and I heartily disagree with those reviews.
There is an underlying...something. There are nuances. I suppose someone who needs everything spelled out might miss out, but if you enjoy creepy and weird, and you can be patient... this is worth a watch. It has elements that remind me of films like Joe vs the Volcano, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Being John Malkovich.
It's not nearly as brilliant as Dispatches from Elsewhere, but I am looking forward to learning more.
By the way, anyone who says it's just people walking back and forth in white hallways...or that "literally nothing happened"...didn't watch the whole episode.
To be fair, I'm only one episode in. But I'll definitely be back for the next.
