American Crime Story: Not to Be Believed (2021)
Great season so far, excited to see what's next
This show is so highly entertaining each season, and the performances from the actors are just the cherry on top. Sarah Paulson is absolutely amazing in this role, as well as the rest of the cast and casting choices. Billy Eichner's "journalist" was a standout for me this episode, and I hope he is a reoccurring character throughout. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the season brings!
Nine Perfect Strangers: Wheels on the Bus (2021)
Can't wait to see what happens next!!
This episode gave us just enough little pieces of the puzzle to continue figuring out what exactly is going on here. Nicole Kidman is astounding as usual, as is the rest of the cast. I cannot wait to see the finale!
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: This Is Our Country (2021)
Amazing season!
This finale episode could have chosen a better RuPaul song to write/dance to, but overall was a solid episode.
The only things I didn't love were the RuPaul song This is Our Country (but the queens original verses were good all around), and the bit where each queen essentially kisses RuPaul's @ss for how generous he is.
I am beyond thrilled for our winner, and I am thankful for a great season that was much more focused on positivity and love, rather than shade and alliances like All Stars 2... (I still love that season, but a break from drama is always nice!)
Motel Makeover (2021)
The hosts aren't the best, but watchable none the less
I understand the low ratings for being annoyed with the hosts, but there are some fun characters thrown in. Especially Rick the contractor who is obviously annoyed with their voices and them all together at some points, and it makes for some hilarious/uncomfortable moments.
The fact they transformed an entire MOTEL for around $700,000 is beyond impressive, and their project manager Courtney is the least annoying and hardest working in my opinion. If you can look past the vocal fry, this show is kinda entertaining and I do hope to see another June Motel makeover!
American Horror Stories: Game Over (2021)
Good actors trying their best with a nonsense plot
This was a waste of some stellar acting, to say the least. I do not understand what even happened, this plot is so messy. I understand what they were going for with the fourth wall breaks and referencing the show on the show, but the plot was way too messy for any of that to land.
SPOILERS AHEAD
I thought they burned down the house but that was all part of the game? So the mom never died? So what part was real then? Basically the whole episode didn't even happen then. This episode could have been much cooler if they went for a Black Mirror type of video game theme, but I feel they missed the landing.
I hope AHS redeems itself with season 10, Stories was definitely a hit or miss.
The White Lotus: Departures (2021)
The perfect ending to the series
This show is breathtakingly beautiful in its scenery, music, and atmosphere, as well as equal parts haunting and tense. All of the characters are imperfect in some way (except Belinda she deserves the world) and the way all their stories tie together is impeccable.
I love the way this show examines class, race, addiction, spirituality, toxic relationships as well as toxic masculinity, and white privilege. It is a nice, bite size, slice-of-life story that has many points to make.
This finale was the highlight of the whole series, and I wish it wasn't a mini series because I would love to see what's next for these characters, especially the family and the newlywed couple.
American Horror Stories: Ba'al (2021)
Had my jaw on the floor!!
As a longtime AHS fan, I very much appreciate the plethora of twists and turns this story brings. This episode has the classic AHS plot lines that keep you guessing till the very last minute. Also worth mentioning is the stunning ability Billie Lourd brings to this role. This has been my favorite episode of this new series by far, I cannot wait to see what else this series has in store.
The White Lotus: Recentering (2021)
Very compelling episode
The drama and plot this episode had my jaw on the floor at some parts!
The actors do an amazing job with the material, and the atmosphere of the show feels relaxed and slowed down while still managing to bring the tension.
I love how flawed and complex all the characters are, from the rich guests to the staff. Highly recommend!!
The White Lotus: Arrivals (2021)
Great acting, great writing
The atmosphere of this show is very prevalent. You feel as a viewer like you are there on the beach with these characters. I love the slightly eerie feeling, the tension between characters, and the cinematography.
I'm looking forward to the whole series!
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Far from perfect, but 1 star???
Obviously LeBron James is NOT a professional actor, but neither was Michael Jordan. I'm sure most of these negative reviews are from people who grew up with the original (like myself) and feel like this isn't as good. The original is on HBO Max too, go back and watch that one again, and see if it is still as perfect as you remember. I guarantee it's just as silly and fun as you remember, but far from a perfect movie.
This movie is also far from perfect, but it's not supposed to be?? It's a Space Jam for this generation with this generation's most prominent basketball player. Yes there were some weak plot points, and less than stellar acting in some places, but it's still a heartfelt movie with a good message for kids and adults alike.
The animation is the best part of the film for me. I loved seeing all the classic Looney Tunes on screen, and I loved the addition of Zendaya as Lola Bunny.
If you have HBO Max, it's definitely worth the watch. I would not pay extra to see it in theaters, but it is a fun time.
American Horror Stories: Rubber (Wo)man: Part Two (2021)
Worth the watch for any fans of AHS!
These two episodes are not nearly as flushed out as Murder House, but given the two episode story, I think they did a good job!
The acting isn't the best, but sometimes cheesy can be entering and camp as hell, which is what I think Murphy was going for here.
**SPOILERS**
The ending of the episode made me like it even more! One of my biggest problems with Murder House was the toxic relationship between Violet and Tate. I really liked how Scarlett got the choice to live her life, and was able to come back to the house once a year to see her girlfriend. I would totally watch a sitcom type show about the ghosts of Murder House, and I thought that ending was hilarious!
American Horror Stories: Rubber (Wo)man: Part One (2021)
Far from perfect, still highly entertaining!
The scariest part is the music, not much horror here.
However, the writing and plot of these episodes is very tight and entertaining to watch. I found the comedy of this episode to my favorite part, as well as the character dynamics. Also love the queer representation!
Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series!
AJ and the Queen (2020)
Netflix, why would you cancel such a gem???
Hey Netflix! Please stop canceling your best shows. This show was so incredible and a much needed story centering drag and drag culture. It wasn't perfect but this show is far more entertaining than another freaking Kissing Booth movie!!
Never Have I Ever (2020)
Refreshing comedy amongst a sea of monotony
The best thing about this show is the amazing representation and diverse cast! Each and every member of this cast shines.
Another huge positive is the amazing writing of Mindy Kaling. You can sense her incredible wit all over the writing of the script.
I love that this show doesn't paint the main character as perfect and immune to criticism. Devi is complex and imperfect, but we still root for her.
This show is a little something different in a world full of basic white girl protagonists. I wish Netflix would make more shows with this amount of originality!
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Halftime Headliners (2021)
Great challenge, even greater cast!
The cast this season has truly been a breath of fresh air. This episode had me on the edge of my seat! I think this challenge was very creative and well done all around, and everyone did so well the judges had to be extra nick-picky.
The actual content of the challenge was not only entertaining, but also allowed the contestants to really have fun and embody their characters. The lip sync was pretty good too, and I can't wait to see what this season has in store!
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Pink Table Talk (2021)
I'm living for this drama!!!
This episode had me screaming in the best ways possible! This challenge was very good and refreshing. I loved seeing the girls get real and talk about real issues in their lives. This runway was stellar as well, I especially loved the looks from Eureka and Scarlett. Even the lipsync did not disappoint!
I swear, this season just keeps getting better and better and these girls aren't afraid to speak their minds and be shady, while still being like-able and genuine.
False Positive (2021)
Creepy but not compelling enough
DO NOT watch this if you are sensitive to or have dealt with serious infertility issues.
This movie had potential. I really enjoyed the cinematography and set design, as well as the acting performances, especially from Ilana Glazer. I think the script and plot were slightly lacking.
This movie just reminded me of better movies such as Rosemary's Baby and Swallow. There were interesting plot points that were either dropped or hinted at too early and killed some of the suspense. I mostly have issues with the structure and pacing.
That being said, it is still worth a watch if you are a horror fan and have Hulu.
iCarly (2021)
Jerry Trainor's shoulders must hurt
This reboot is not nearly as bad as others I have seen. I love all the adult humor they have added, as well as a more diverse cast. The theme song is still good and I don't think I could ever get tired of it.
The cast does a fairly solid job around the board, but the stand out is still Spencer. He is wacky and horny as ever, and this show is worth watching just to see his antics in 2021.
I really hope they continue the series and explore new horizons for these characters not held back by creepy executives with feet fetishes!
Dragging the Classics: The Brady Bunch (2021)
It's not perfect but 1 star?? Come on now.
This was a very fun retelling of a classic sitcom!
I am a huge fan of Drag Race, and my mom showed me the Brady Bunch a lot growing up (as it was a staple from her childhood) so I was very excited to see this crossover/retelling!
Many things about this worked. I thought their casting choices were mostly great. I loved seeing Shea as Marsha, Nina West as Alice was perfect, and Kandy Muse looks adorable in Cindy's pigtails! I do kind of wish they let the characters ad lib and change more things, as the funniest part of the episode was the end credits where you get to hear Bianca Del Rio drop the f-bomb multiple times when forgetting her lines.
The green screen set was the worst part for me. It feels very in-authentic at times, a classic set would have made this feel more like an actual sitcom. That being said, I understand they are only doing one episode and the casting alone probably cost too much for a proper set. This whole thing kind of felt like a long version of a main challenge from RuPauls Drag Race, but it was still enjoyable none the less.
I would recommend to any one who is a fan of Drag Race and/or The Brady Bunch and has Paramount+ because it's only 30 minutes and if you already have the subscription, why not?
Fatale (2020)
Solid film, kept me guessing till the end!
I don't understand the low scores for this film! It tackles many important topics without being too on the nose. It's not perfect, but I found the film to be entertaining and I did not know what would happen next at any given time. I really enjoyed the sound track as well as the extremely talented cast (especially the two leads, Michael Ealy and Hilary Swank).
I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of thrillers, especially ones that tackle relevant issues in a tasteful way. Not quite as good as Get Out, but still worth a watch especially if you have HBO Max!
Why Women Kill (2019)
A wicked good time!!
Both seasons of this show had my on the edge of my seat! I absolutely love the women lead cast, and I was very impressed with the compelling stories and fabulous sets and costumes.
