La Femme Musketeer (2004)

Good film!

It wasn't until the beginning credits rolled that the wife and I realized that this movie is mostly in Spanish with English subtitles. We hadn't noticed that here in a very wealthy Dallas burb, we were two of the very few gringos in the room. We decided to stay. Glad we did. Great movie. Great acting. This is not Cantiflas nor is it some of the really stupid stuff you see on Spanish TV.

This is not Three Men and a Baby or some piece of Adam Sandler poop. This is a great treatment of the plot of a single guy who finds himself in the possession of his illegitimate baby daughter.

No clichés. No Hollywood stupid. Just good acting in this dramedy.

I don't get the low rating. The theater was packed and people were standing in line for the next showing. We are glad we stayed.

Chocolat (2000)

Good film.

After just having seen it I understand why this is called one of the best films ever. This is neorealism and a big masterpiece. Everything are so simply put together and still so very touching( I actually started to cry in the end, I think it's the only film that have ever made me cry). The acting by the mother and child are more then perfect and so is the cinematography and the direction. This woman's character really shows the awfulness it is to be as poor as the family in the film.

I had expected this film to be a masterpiece but might not as touching and powerful as it really was. It's the simple story about a woman opening a chocalate store and the town's oppostion to her. How true and how sad. In this world, people's hearts grow colder by the second.

The Genius Club (2006)

This will make you cry .

I cried at the end of this movie – twice. The first was when the cancer victim (Helfer) began her monologue about dying (which shook me to the soul); and then, when I thought it was over, I got touched again by Stephen Baldwin's performance when he talks about his mother who died. Incredibly moving performances. It kind of reminded me of 'Dead Poet's Society' in that every scene builds to the climatic end. My friend saw this film 5 times (which is insane). After the 5th time, you become numb to any film. But I see lots of films and this is one of the great surreptitious movies (does anyone remember 'Guarding Tess'?) that gradually builds an audience through word of mouth. A solid 8.5 overall.
