Blink (2024)
Thanks! But no thanks..
WHAT I FEEL:
I did watch it patiently. I like parts of it. But the movie still feels very amateurish and unfulfilling in its on-screen execution. I appreciate the effort, the story is well planned and connected convincingly, I would not say the same for on-screen execution. The time travel bits and vfx is comparable to Balveer TV series on chintu tv, I mean there is no problem with mediocre vfx. But sadly, it is not done intelligently to make the effects look quirky and fun. The plot is PreDestination, to say - "heavily inspired and borrowed". Those who haven't seen it may find the end very intelligent and unexpected.
THE GOOD:
1. Happy to see a kannada film taking sci-fi genre seriously. It is just pure fun to see new genuine attempts in kannada to entertain and engage audience with intelligent scripts and sci fi stories.
2. The Time-Travel Plot is well rounded enough to make sense at the end. No hanging open threads. The events are sensibly connected ( loosely ofcourse with convenient dialogues many times.)
3. Kudos to the producers for backing this attempt.
THE BAD:
1. The acting performance of Deekshik felt pretty underwhelming in many scenes for me personally. I like the subtleness in the scenes showing everyday life, but the emotionally complex and anguish scenes feel let down.
2. In the preroll - "I steal from every single film ever made- Quentin Tarantino ". And the director of this movie is like "I steal from that one film I saw that day". PreDestination is that film. The director does manage to knit an indianized story around Predestination. The grandfather paradox and Predestination plot were unnecessary I strongly feel. The movie plot holds quite well by itself and could have ended on a simpler backstory of timetravel and interconnected events. The aspect of Predestination did not bring the sparkle of intelligence and surprise instead made the end disgusting and unpleasant.
3. Convenient dialogues here and there to support the plot even though the dialogues feel untimely and artificial. The scene of Arivu staying in the home of a stranger. I really can't understand how a family trusts a complete stranger to that extent in such a short span.
4. The dialogues of the mother when Apoorva asks about his father on the phone feel rushed and for plot sake. The first person narration from the protagonist made the movie less interesting. The spoon feeding from the protagonist in the first half was unnecessary.
5. Rough and Amateurish visual presentation. Folk lores, cultural elements make an interesting addition, but do not add a layer of plot through it like in Ulidavaru Kandante.
Aachar & Co (2023)
Pls go watch it😃
Absolutely a treat to watch. One of the best feel good movies I have seen this year. The characters stay so true to their identity and remain innocent till the end. The screenplay doesn't deviate anywhere. Such a perfect piece of art. The places, dialogues feel so authentic to the era. No scene or set piece feels artificial. So well recreated. The family dynamics, sibling fightings and situational comedy work so well on the screen. I wish I saw it in the theatres. The plot progresses smoothly and the treatment of the film is commendable. Even the sad and emotional moments are shown in ways that seem casual and don't drag ur smile away.
The characters are so organic and have their own journey. Even the supporting characters stay in mind after watching the movie. Though the family is quite big with 10 kids, you wont feel any difficulty in recognising them. Every character adds a distinct flavor to the movie just like the condiments do for a pickle.
If you are still reading, go now.. watch the movie.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Was just going to admit to a hospital
Whoever thought of this script, the scenes, the arrangement of scenes, the mind boggling transition from one scene to another mindless scene, those dialogues, the reactions of the characters to one other's dialogues, those isha shiva eye contact moments. In what universe people are like this?
I am tired, exhausted, my basic reasoning and social intereaction basics are in doubt from what i just witnessed. This movie feels like that one dream I had in deeep sleep that makes no sense, no cause-effect relation. This got to be an experience to witness. It brings that dream u dont fully remember just exactly it happened to reality. No one in the world has tried to bring a dream to reality and show it on big screens. This got to be it. Very well done, Its better than all of my dreams. I would rewatch this epic when elon musk's neuralink becomes a reality. I would play this movie as my dream for every night.
But but, kudos to the one who made that starting 2 minute animated clip that narrates the history of brahmastra. It was amazing. The colors, styling, transitions everything. Good. All the 4 stars u see above are actually for them.
Thank you Ayan Mukarjee, you are the christopher nolan of india. He made a movie on dreams. And you made me dream when the movie was still on.
2.0 (2018)
Totally disturbed by this mess
Director Shankar has ruined the sequel value totally. With its pseudoscience and illogical script and childish screenplay he has made Endhiran cult fans feel let down.....
I never thought of such a disastrous sequel for Endhiran even in my dreams. I wish he had hired few good script writers and not settled over his own. Who called this film as a SCI-FI? Come on... Pseudoscience and baseless beliefs are portrayed as true science to the public. We are paving our way to the grave of superstitions and irrational attiude. So sad.
Yes, VFX was cool, well done. But it's not new. People relate to the underlying story more and not to the high moments given by vfx alone.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
More Preachy Less Organic Script Writing
The worst spiderman movie I have ever seen. So many enemies rushed into one(all enemies are supercool though). The director had so much to show that it could fit into one more movie. Unfortunately, he has rushed everything into this one. The dialogues are crap sometimes and the events happen just for the reason director wants them to happen. The flashback scene in climax and other emotional scenes dont work. The screenplay is not well written and makes a potential idea feel messy to watch. For I have watched spiderman 1,2, no way home till now.... this is the one that disappointed me the most for its script and clumsy reasoning.
The Boss Baby: Family Business (2021)
Memorable
I don't know why there are bad reviews for this movie. I haven't watched the Netflix show but I have watched the 1st movie. Personally this 2nd part was soulful, kiddy, cute, nostalgic and enjoyable given to its genre. Good for a fun relaxing watch... I feel the animators of this franchise have done a great job, for the characters, their face expressions, quick complex actions. They feel really memorable....
RRR (Rise Roar Revolt) (2022)
Surprised by how Rajamouli connects with audience everytime
I was not a big fan. Maybe bcz I haven't seen bahubali yet. I know I know, what you feel, but truth is truth.
I have seen Eega starring Sudeep, one of rajamouli's creative kick. It was really nice.
And extremely new to our niche.
I had no interest to watch RRR. Why? The title of this movie never sounded good for me. I thought it would be one of the visually treating yet unsatisfying story. I felt so. It elevated after seeing the trailer. Unrealistic action, weird British set, weird contrast play of British and Indians looking somewhat funny at dancing scene glimpses I saw, and strange friendship thing in middle of all these. I decided it's going to be a blunder. And even after rrr did 1000 crore, my mind was "it's boring for sure. Just a mass movie, hyped by Rajamouli's status".
Well I saw the movie, wait till I disclose.
I loved it.
The starting scenes, the entry scenes till the first meet of ram and bheem seemed too unrealistic, mass audience blunder. But then I dont even understand how it caught my attention. I tried my best to avoid it. It caught. I had heard that rajamouli can keep PPL emotionally connected till the end of his movies. I said naaah, it's only for emotional geeks, not for non-emotionally connecting guy like me.
But well the characters, the story line, the witty dialogues though familiar yet convincing bcz of the innocence of character's emotions that are portrayed. It was nice experience. It was nice to see me lost in its story line. The story is at its best. It is what that held me on my seat. Or else I would have got up very very soon. I don't cherish any action, over the top scenes. Useless.
The story is extremely rooted, metaphoric, relatable. It takes very less time to make the characters your friends or villains, subconsciously it happens. And that is what rajamouli can do and plays with. The story never went predictable, no. The story line, its progress, plot are really fresh. There are reasons why a character does something. It holds for every action by every single character. Characters who are villains turn heroes. Building emotion is a great challenge and in middle of it, changing it quite often with the aspect of "perspective issue" is even harder, and for a 3 hr movie it's a lot. Many fail to build emotion for a single character even after the end card of the movie. But this movie does it best.
Maybe there's some logic issue to some action scenes but not to the story line. No logic issues to the characters, their thinking process, aim, behaviour.
Very artistic piece, even after being a commercial one.
Why? Has extensive amount of good artistic shots, screenplay, beautiful story telling maintaining the suspense/holding breath moments. And mainlu: metaphors. The entanglement with Mahabharat and Ramayana is universal throughout. And the metaphor of water and fire. I thought it was just another useless metaphor by him to add to all these to make it different from just mahabharat-ramayan metaphors. But no. It was shown once, not twice, neither thrice, it was rather justified. I thought he would leave that water-fire thing in middle. It fascinated me how it is taken in every aspect, action and every scene in the movie. It is shown even in many unexpected situations where it blew my mind over holding on to something like this which PPL consider insignificant. Very well justified metaphorization. And yea, bheem is from suryavamsha but has water characters, ram is from Chandravamsha but has fire characters. Very nice contrast.
Only thing concerning me: why so much straight forward violence, why not artistic violence or symbolic one?
The answer was, that was one of the main supporting reasons for emotions to build up on the characters. Bcz we are seeing exactly what character is experiencing in second person view/ as if we saw it happening in reality in front. That is what makes rajamouli achieve extra emotion goodness, which is not possible/ not strong enough in case of symbolic violence portrayal.
K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022)
Great Production quality BUT "Paisa Wasool Entertainer"...
To sum up in a line - "Has to do with the craze, hype, expectation, strategy, pulse of the audience and the PRODUCTION QUALITY"
To untie the strings of the rope,
1. EXPECTATION WAS KING
Expectation is what made us sit in the cinema hall for a whole 3 hours for this movie.
2. WOW PRODUCTION QUALITY
Congrats, there is a promising production banner that is fit to build and raise movies as brands, bringing up awaiting films by promising story tellers. Producer is doing Hollywood level fiction movie crazy stuff with really viable money. He has achieved a grand production quality with comparatively less money. A 100 crore budget is killer value.
3. STORY STRENGTH WAS... BAD
Yes it made 1000 crores, but wait till I untie it. It's a great business success. In terms of story continuation, this is one of the good blunders that script writers can offer the intellect audience.
...The How...
Prashanth Neel who had built a great justifiable story line for kgf 1, now has broken its value. He has broken the legs on which kgf 1 actually stood strong on. The character whom people loved, has made way into things which it shouldn't be doing.
ACTUALLY THE PROMISE WAS BROKEN.
The moral way of upbringing by mom, his situations, situations at the mine, his mentality had nothing to do with him when he was a ruler.
No mother will be proud of a kid who goes and becomes the sultan of a place to do the same cruelty which the mother experienced in her life.
His mom never said him to be cruel and careless to make more struggling mothers like her.
WORST CHARACTER JUSTIFICATION
Rocky rules the same way as Garuda, no respect or kindness at the lives of the thousands, including kids, the slavery
continues but at HIGHER PACE.
The human values are not concerned, but tragically the human values itself built this character in the first part. PPL initially connected with this character due to qualities of natural hunger, kind moments and helping poor people understand their self esteem. But they are destroyed mindlessly in this sequel. These leave the character worst justified at the end, making blunder with a good character.
4. PULSE OF AUDIENCE IS CAUGHT
Even Garuda was powerful in kgf 1, but PPL didn't connect with him to raise voice for him. But they connected with rocky character bcz of certain good elements shown at instances in kgf 1.
Now when Rocky does bad things like garuda now, the audience shout, whistle, bcz they know from kgf 1 that he is the hero of this film. Their job is just to support the leads. It's called CONVINCED MENTALITY.
Prasant knows this and understands just what a major chunk needs. He said he cares about the business of the cinema more, so maybe he kept the story plot aside, as he knew that PPL would go crazy with non-stop action scenes playing one after another, which was enough for him.
5. UNNECESSARY STORY ELEMENTS
Adhera. He was only here to create craze, more craze. To add some more unrealistic or uninteresting old school fight scenes. Even if you take the character Adheera away, the story runs very well and even the cinema. Bcz, his part just enters at random times, when the hero has no other obstacles to handle. He comes irregularly. He seems kind of Hit and Run. His intentions though were told, did not catch the minds very much. He seemed like a goonda or a supari killer attacking a famous person.
And the Scene of Mastermind Reveal behind all the KGF incidents. The worst. Many didn't even notice it coming and the scene slipped in seconds leaving many not even to notice it. Many who saw the movie don't even remember this scene.
6. I LOVED IT MOMENTS
And hey buddy, I love the climax. And even some scenes specific. Well created. Climax stands out, bcz it does connect deeply with the emotions of the audience. The promise uttering in the background, him drowning, every gold biscuit diving turning, and his tremendous idea to take all gold from anybody's hold, I liked it. Especially the idea that he promised his mother to give her all the gold and now he is going to his mother ( ocean/earth/water is even a mother ) and how he presents it to her metaphorically, director's cap effort.
7. THE REAL HEROES
Grading, VFX, cinematography is really an elevation and in reality is the real jaw dropping point to many international audiences. The DOP department has grown in skill. The Viking shots, the action sequence shooting, the car chasing scenes, the backgrounds. Art department needs hats off, it has crossed its limits.
8. MUSIC, BGM, CRAZE
BGM? Great, but wait... It has to do with the past. KGF CHAPTER 1.
Ravi Basrur could have flowed innovative sounds, variant tones, different pitches, different joner sounds. There's a monotony that's similar to sharp roaring stretched to 3 hours. The bgm of kgf 2 is mostly a better produced version of its preceding one. No changes, it seemed just loudened, tweaked with extra bass and noise. No memorable songs. Remixes of ch.1 are played.
9. REALLY WHERE IT WENT WRONG
The first part was almost PLOT DRIVEN and yea even Character driven as I told you before, but suddenly the next part of the sequel turned out to be extreme masala mass Paisa vasool action compilation, and no interesting story. This is what threw the intellect audience's breaths down.
10. WAS IT REALLY INTENSE?
It was fast enough to make the audience confused. Many things didn't happen, but it happened very fast and quickly, enough for audience to say "INTENSE"
Reviewer Kairam Vaashi said that when he was watching the movie, he pondered over the cars and thought, "Did These Skoda Cars exist at those times?" and shared that he felt this, though he had seen the same cars in chapter 1, he didn't feel this question while watching that car in chapter 1. This shows another dimension where it went wrong. In such an intense no eye-blink kind of fast pace movies, if you can notice and ponder such details like what was written on the gun, car model etc, i.e if you can materialize the set even along with connecting with the pace and story, then it says the emptiness/predictable nature of the scenes going on that makes room for such thinking time. Only one thing that could have filled it was an intense story line that matches the pace of the movie.
Not all fast moving movies are intense.
K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018)
This was new for audience of our belt
Quite unexpected cinema experience for our Karnataka Belt
1. I like the fact that this has believable storyline despite its intense action experience. The story has the character of Rocky well justified. This when viewed through the story aspect, the character justification and "uniqueness" moments makes it good. No parts make us feel that the character is doing what he was not supposed to do or like its not what his character does. The blend is good when it comes to be an epic of a villainy oriented film yet shining with well character moments of the goodness and natural hunger.
2. I like the film because of the quite unique and unseen ( in our parts at least) color grading and cinematography presentation of the film. Bhuvan Gowda stands high in this field of expertise.
3. I don't rate the BGM. It fits this genre and to this movie excellently. Songs have memorable rhythms and sounding. Good work.
4. As an audience, Yes intense story telling, u need to keep your cerebrum working high. Promising. I hope KGF 2 too will have good story extension, experience and experience.
5. Need to agree that this is truly a character based film or an epic based on him. And it mainly shows the unjust in the gold mine seen through his hunger eyes makes him more prominent. The confidence, hunger, qualities shown at some instances is what actually BUILDS EMOTION FOR HIM/for the epic. The action, style just adds to it, but it also serves as the main dish for those cinema people who have toned their tongue to extreme mass movies.
What I did feel was useless - nothing prominent this time, fits good under its niche.
Bell Bottom (2019)
Very Well Written
Maybe the only one detective movie in kannada, I like this much. The movie is really entertaining from all aspects. Very well written story. Has meaningful story screenplay. Love the direction even.
The Secret Number (2012)
Very engaging. But I expected more...
To be genuine, I like this short film. The screenplay is very satisfying. This is one of the most engaging short story based short film, I have seen till now. But the ending is not satisfying. I expected something more. But A+ for effort.
