Sting (2024)
4/10
More Modern Horror
27 May 2024
Sting was an okay film that surprised me a few times. The start of the film with the origin of sorts and where Sting came from was surprising as I thought it was a regular monster but clearly not so that was cool to have in this creature feature! The story was pretty standard and basic with an unfortunate repetitive trope that horror films have where the parent has to earn the love of the child through these traumatic events. I wish modern horror would stop being so generic and stop making every family have the same issues! The violence was pretty cool too with some bloody scenes. I do wish we could've seen Sting a bit more and even potentially more to show off this isn't a normal spider, could've been more clearer on showing off the spider design. If there is a creature feature I always want to see the whole monster design but some scenes were just too dark and shots too small to fit it all in. A surprising amount of comedy in this aswell with my favourite parts being with the exterminator. Overall it's an okay film that falls in line with most modern horror films and will be forgotten over time due to this.

Harmless family movie
17 May 2024
Harmless and wholesome family fun. Pretty simple and heartfelt story for the kids. It has some great cast members mostly with the voiceovers but they are in it, not as much as I'd hoped but they are there. It's a very imaginative film with a few cool fantastical scenes, particularly the dance number in the imaginary place. Reynolds didn't really shine as much for his personality and wasn't as funny in this but still a good presence. Cailey (the girl) being from the walking dead too seems to be doing well for herself being put in a Krasinski and Reynolds movie. Sometimes the film lacks and the story gets weak in the middle but overall you can understand it. The ending is probably the best part as it has the most weight to it and emotion about what imaginary friends are and what they do and mean for us. Also a nice little surprise of an ending if you didn't see it coming. Overall just a good family film but could've been a bit better.

Shot by shot remake mostly but potential for sequels
17 May 2024
Was okay but a lot of it was the exact same as the 2008 version. This time round they did actually fight back in a way even if not a lot you could see more of an attempt from both characters to do so. I could feel the creepy atmosphere more too although that might be due to more scares and it feelings faster but I did feel more of an entertainment value to it. I'm glad they did what they did at the end and I think there is a lot of potential for the sequels but this was just a start off remake. It has the modern horror cliches aswell which isn't a good thing but it was less than most horrors. Overall was okay, probably need to watch the 2008 one again as mightve undervalued it and I think there is a lot of potential they have with the sequels and how it ended.

fresh, exciting and surprising!
13 May 2024
What a wonderful day!!! To be a planet of the apes fan! This movie was everything I could've hoped for. It was fresh, exciting and surprising! I was in awe of this film, it had new and unique characters such as Noah who I thought was a great lead and seeing him journey whilst learning about the history of Ceaser and what he stood for. Ceaser is connected but loosely so that this remains a fresh and exciting new chapter which I love! The side character Raka was amazing and had such a personality about him. Mae had a more complex and surprising role within the story that gripped you especially at the end. The story was very adventurous and thrilling as we journey and learn about this new world along with Noah. Very heartfelt and thought provoking in some ways too. There are so many thrilling and action packed moments in this that are just so awesome! The fight scenes are just incredible with choreography that grips you! The film was also a visual treat with scenery that is absolutely beautiful and cinematography that stuns! The villain of the film is one that you can understand in ways especially given the ending the film. The humans in the story I'm very intrigued to see where that goes and can not wait for more movies in this franchise! Honestly this film just got me excited with every scene I saw, there wasn't a moment I did not enjoy. Truly an epic scale film in every way possible. Masterpiece.

Modern horror movie
8 May 2024
As usual a predictable modern horror movie that follows the same old formats but has its moments. Horror movies need to stop doing things with the main character like making them have a passed family member which leads to their strength at the end of the story or a connection with the evil, it's just so overdone. The tarot stuff was interesting but eventually it got a bit repetitive and people kept knowingly doing things they were told not to do like the hangman card especially. Jacob Batalon was easily the best part of the film with his comedic character and glad he had a big portion within the film. Overall it was an okay movie held up by Peter Parkers best friend Ned Leeds.

Not the worst A24 film but not their best
8 May 2024
Weird movie but had some quality A24 elements to it. Some unique physique shots of muscles pulsing and sound effects for it were pretty unique. The first half of the film was the setup but they could've done a lot more as it was a bit empty at times. The two mains were decent especially for Katy O'Brian who is sort of a newcomer so she did pretty well for her first big feature. Was expecting better or more from Ed Harris but he was decent in it too. There was some really exciting and shocking thrilling scenes which led to some really cool violence too. It was a decent thriller with a mixed bag but they ruined it with the ending by making it visually strange when the rest of the film was pretty normal compared. Overall it could've been better with a more suitable ending but for what it's worth some thriller elements did shock and excite.

Sometimes fun is all you need!
30 April 2024
A really fun time with lots of action and bloody scenes to enjoy aswell as a great cast and a cool story which I didn't expect to go into the direction it went to so that was a great surprise! Didn't expect the movie to be too serious so I enjoyed when it would get really crazy, over-the-top and silly. Some funny scenes in it too! A fun revenge story with some great action from Skarsgard which really gets me hyped for the crow movie coming out, the choreography was stylish and the music to back up those epic scenes. Great to see the kid who plays homelanders son from the boys in more roles too and even Famke (Jean Gray) from X-Men being back on the big screen! Skarsgard is just a great presence on screen too that's a known fact. It was just straight action non stop blended well with a great revenge story with some surprises! Overall pure fun and sometimes that's all you need!

Enjoyable and different tale in the Dracula world
19 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A very easily enjoyable movie for having fun with the vampire genre and looking at Draculas daughter instead of Dracula. The violence was pretty good although I don't feel like it was enough for an 18 rating. Angus Clouds last on screen appearance was memorable as he is funny in the movie and respect to the directors for putting the most they could of him in the film. The movie had some comedic moments in it as a whole from everyone. Quite a lighthearted film to just have fun with and enjoy a Dracula world tale. The little girl playing Abigail too did a good job especially from coming from a very different film playing Matilda. Had some unexpected moments in it especially towards the end so that was really thrilling. There was a character who appeared at the end who didn't look right for the character at all, it looked unbelievable and nothing great compared to other looks in other media. Had a predictable and standard horror ending though too. Pretty decent and just enjoyable.

Vulnerable story to the famous singer
12 April 2024
Didn't know anything about Amy. Just her music which is pretty good. It's great to learn about this person who I haven't looked into at all even though this wasn't about her whole life and just her unfortunate events with her partner and her struggle with drugs and alcohol. Even that the unfortunate events inspired some of her most iconic songs too. It would've been nice to get a story that wasn't just her sad parts of her life but it's important to tell this story as it is a tragic one especially that people weren't so kind to her particularly the press. The film shows the darker side of fame and what it brings. You do get to feel for her character which like I said is important to see her more of a human than just a singer. The actress did great work by doing all the singing and performing herself too. Overall a decent film showing Amy as a person with her vulnerabilities making her relatable and knowing her sad story that led to the end.

A unique take on the war genre
12 April 2024
Really great and powerful film about war photographers and press in the battlefield. The film doesn't focus too much on the war and why it's happening or the politics of it. It's just kind of happening and whilst I did expect and want those things it's cool to be surprised by what I got to see which was the war photographer world and the the horrors they experience and the personal toll it takes on them. It's great to see two angles of it too with this young girl excited to start working and then Kirsten Dunst's character who has been in it a long time and it's effected her. The photography they showed in the film was really beautifully done and told the story well, some great imagery and cinematography in this one. The film is a lot of talking about war, humanity and journalism but it does have some very action packed and thrilling moments. The film was also quite chilling especially with the "what kind of American are you?" scene which was very brutal and dark. The sound design for the guns going off too was brutal itself and heavy hitting. Overall a great film showing a different storytelling angle than most war movies I've seen, was a very engaging and intriguing story to follow.

A gem for the horror genre
3 April 2024
Wow what a great and unique movie! Such a surprise on how fantastic this truly was. David being the star of this movie is great, his performance was really good and it's nice to see him star instead of supporting cast. I really loved all the different formats the movie had such as old tv screen, black + white full screen and colour full screen etc. It made for a very visually pleasing movie to see them all at work. The concept and lore that starts the film off is really interesting especially to watch it play out towards the end. It feels very retro when watching it especially with the way they made the film and I love it. It makes you feel uneasy and like it is very unpredictable too, I really enjoyed not knowing what would happen next and it kept surprising me all the way to the shocking finale! Very suspenseful movie throughout. Such a fun time watching this movie! Not only is this a creative movie but it's probably one of the most creative modern horror pieces made. Overall a true gem to filmmaking and the horror genre.

Great directorial debut film
3 April 2024
Pretty fun movie with some good action, although the overall story didn't strike me as that strong. Dev Patel did amazing work in his directorial debut, this is a very strong first directing movie. I thought some of the camera angles and visuals were really cool. The fight scenes were brutal and great, sometimes they were hard to follow or see due to lighting mainly or things going too quick. The story was okay, standard plot really but it felt like it was dragging a bit especially when it came to all the religious and monkey stuff. The corruption and wealth was the best part of the story and seeing the poor living amongst the rich, it made the film very gritty which I really enjoyed. I do kinda of wish we got to see him with the monkey mask more, he dyed it ready to fight but then threw it away in few seconds which seemed pointless which is a shame as the mask looked intimidating. Overall a good movie that could've been very much improved on the fight scenes and tightening up the story a bit. Great job for Patel though.

Too many characters
1 April 2024
Not giving the quality of the John Wick films unfortunately. I did enjoy this though with some decent action and a really amazing soundtrack. Some of the violence was really good and brutal too. But they were doing too much in such a small three part show, so many side characters and they could've easily been cut out to improve the story as most of them you just didn't care about aswell as way too much plot armour. I wish Mel Gibson was in it more as this ruthless tyrant as his presence wasn't really there and was just in the background but when he was on screen he was really great and probably one of the most brutal characters of the show, dare I say the best. His ending to his character though was a little disappointing and could've been better had they cut a certain character. Overall it's an okay show, nothing to rave about. A one time watch and if I rewatch the John Wick universe I think I'll give this a miss unfortunately.

One of Ryan Goslings best performance
1 April 2024
One of Ryan Goslings best movies, not only is it iconic but the film itself is just amazing. Gosling gives a unique performance in this compared to his other roles, he still plays that quiet loner type character mixed with his charming romantic character but he ranges with new emotions with more darker tones and his little dialogue through the film allows for him to be a more intense presence and gives him the opportunity to use his face and expressions/body language to perform. Silence is used a lot in the film to create some really intense sequences. The cinematography was great and the music is iconic and amazing! It's a really intense film that is really violent when it comes to it, the story is very engaging and fast paced to allow this crime thriller to really engross you. It's a really artistic film too especially the visuals. Overall a really fantastic film that is very stylish, phenomenal acting, visuals that have meaning and a really interesting story to follow. Phenomenal and iconic.

Short round the best
1 April 2024
A really enjoyable adventure film that is goofy and dark. The film does have a lot of flaws like Indiana surviving ridiculously high falls unscathed but it's easy to overlook due to it being a fun movie. And the female character having one purpose which is to scream for most the film and be the classic movie blonde girl. The first sequence is probably my favourite part of the film, Ford looks amazing in his white suit and the antidote/diamond chase scene was really fun and funny to watch. Short Round is another reason why I really enjoyed this film, he is a cute kid that is funny throughout. The film has lots of action to keep you thrilled and entertained aswell as comedic stupid scenes to lighten moods every now and then. Some action scenes were long sequences that involved lots of interesting stunts making it more entertaining. Sometimes the film is dark with the violence it does aswell. Indiana is great obviously with his personality and just iconic in general. Overall a solid action adventure movie that is really fun.

Superman!
1 April 2024
This movie was so unexpectedly great! I really loved it. It's a nice simple film with a lot of heart. I love anything that deals with aliens so the fact they brought that into the mix with the iron giant and the lore behind him was really intriguing. What I love most is the correlation and comparison to superman as it's sort of the same story and it's really heartwarming and emotional with the giant learning all about humanity and the same morals superman stands by. It's quite sad at times too, it doesn't hold back on showing real things and even commenting on the atomic politics and such. The relationship with the giant and the kid is really special too. But yes all the superman stuff and hearing and seeing the giant want to be like superman was really special and touching. A really great animated movie that isn't talked about a lot.

Great father son adventure film
1 April 2024
Honestly a pretty good movie to end the original trilogy with. We get some backstory into Indiana Jones and see him as a younger version aswell as it linking with the story into his older self which is cool. Seeing his dad in the story is great aswell as being played by the great Sean Connery which makes it better. The two have great chemistry and a good comedic duo too. The holy grail in the film and the religious lore behind it was really interesting to hear and to witness. Pretty crazy how they put Hitler in the film too and got him to sign a book. The action scenes are great especially the lengthy sequences such as the tank one was a lot of fun. I love the good and evil in this film as we deal with followers of God and Christ but then we have the Nazis which makes for a good parallel for the story. The story is really good though I enjoyed it a lot due to the connection between father and son going on their first adventure. Overall it's a great dad and son adventure film to end the franchise on and give some character arc to the Jones family.

Strange, dragged and sometimes boring but still great
31 March 2024
A great movie! Is it one of the best of all time like most say? No, not by a long shot. The film is strange/confusing, too dragged out and sometimes boring. That being said I did enjoy the film. For a 60's film the visuals were phenomenal, they looked so insanely good and unique and made for some really great visually appealing scenes. The story was very intriguing and unique with its strangeness and how everything was very unknown and I like that this film can be talked about in many ways from that from different points of views. I love the character of Hal 9000 too with how he is somewhat unknown himself with how advanced he is and hinting at him being close to human and watching him react with emotion is crazy cool. It's strange though, not a lot is explained so it's necessary for you to make your own conclusion when watching the film, I wish there was more dialogue in this to explain what is going on, especially the ending which was just so quirky and odd. The film is eerie with the music and the silence that it has to it making space a scary place to be too. There was a few scenes that were dragged out massively too particularly at the end with all the colours, that was way too long and so unnecessary, I understand visuals are impressive and important but they don't need to be shown for that long which made some of the film dull. But sometimes not much happened anyway which made it boring. But it's not a bad movie, just a very strange one. The cinematography and camera work was pretty good too I liked that particularly when used with the human characters. Overall a very strange movie that has some questionable filmmaking choices in it but still an intriguing watch.

Really fun but room for improvement
31 March 2024
A really fun sequel to Godzilla V Kong. There was so much action in this film and tons of fights, it made for a very entertaining and visually great film. I do wish they would've hurried up the story a bit more as it took most the film for Godzilla to come to Kong and I feel like Godzilla was a little underwhelming in this too but when he joined Kong he was badass. Kong was basically the main character of this film and he had more personality in this and made for an entertaining character as we explore this new realm and meet new characters. The Scar King was actually pretty cool, he was badass and brutal aswell as Shimo who was just awesome. The final fight scene was done pretty quick and I feel like it could've been better but it was very entertaining stuff. The lore was all really interesting like the Scar King lore and more stuff with how Monarch operates. There was some great visuals in this too even epic ones like Godzilla diving off a mountain into the ocean was so cool. The music was pretty great too. Overall it's a really entertaining movie I just wish there was more of it so that it could've been better. Super fun though and a great watch.

Invincible: This Must Come as a Shock (2024)
Season 2, Episode 5
10/10
Great return and lots to be hyped about
14 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Great to have the show back and a strong come back in my opinion. We get a good reestablishment with our characters. Mark having to take care of his brother along with his mom is really amazing and the dialogue between Mark and his brothers mom before he takes him is quite deep and thoughtful. So just seeing him and his mom care for this child is quite sweet. The whole stuff with Donald is really cool for his character even if he doesn't think so. The further introduction to the lizard league made them more formidable to me and showed the power they have as before I wasn't that bothered but the fight scenes were absolutely crazy! I can't believe they took out Kate and Shrinking Ray! Really gory and brutal too I loved it! I just hope Rex doesn't die in the next episode but him having is hand bit off is still wild! The Martian attack in space is really cool as it's been anticipated for a long while and it was nice to take a look back at season 1 and go back to that storyline, it's all very intriguing especially the fact shapesmith has a key role in it and we see his POV. Ended on a massive cliffhanger but the guardians fighting them off in the space ship was awesome and can't wait to see what happens next! The post credit scene with Allen too is so hype, knowing he gets stronger when he is badly hurt and then healing and knowing that a viltrumite saved him, everything about this episode has hype connected to it and I can't wait to watch the next 3 episodes. I'm expecting more crazy things.

One of the best courtroom dramas
13 March 2024
This was a fantastic and thrilling experience. This courtroom drama has some of the best court scenes I've seen on the screen, not only was the acting superb but the dialogue within those scenes was so strong and really made for an intriguing film. Everything was so thought provoking towards the story they were telling. It was very human and powerful too, they felt raw and not flashy which I loved as it felt like I was there experiencing it and not just watching a film. The characters it gives us are strong too and well performed by all. The truth within the film is complex and you really have to think and decide for yourself much like a judge does in a court. It's also emotional too as this couple fight and the husband in it is deeply broken and effected by what she has done to him and this makes him such a relatable and touching character in that way that we can feel the devastation from the movie as his character develops through the film. The final scene with the boy in the courtroom telling the court what his dad told him was really quite sad and depressing. Everyone of the characters has a flaw but none of them are the bad guys, they are just human. A really fantastic and emotionally thought provoking film.

Concept had potential but outcome was disappointing
8 March 2024
Very slow and boring a lot of the times despite the interesting concept of it all I think could've made for a complex story with interesting ideas and views. The acting and performances were a bit dull with little emotions being shown especially for this story so that was disappointing. They could've made this a very intriguing movie and looked at the negative sides of love testing and how it's basically a negative thing to the world. The chemistry between characters I just never felt either. The ending made the film worse as it felt like they did a cop out or ran out of money so just decided to end it. The run time was way too long for that dragging film and I wish they filled it with the potential of the concept. Not worth the time to watch.

Fantastic and emotional movie
7 March 2024
A perfectly crafted film all round that hits you right in the feelings all the way through. Ryan and Emma's on screen chemistry was amazing, it was heartwarming and touching to see and watch their relationship unfold. Their performances with dance too were phenomenal and made an iconic duo in that department. All the dance and musical numbers were amazing and vibrant in colour which made it a treat to watch! The film focuses on dreams and the love for those dreams a lot and the pair supporting one another all the way to end scene is so many emotions ranging from happy and heartbreaking. The camera work and cinematography in the film is also very impressive and unique. The film is realistic and definitely is with the ending for the movie as I think it plays true to life a lot. For those who seek almost impossible positions and seek true love prepare to be emotionally impacted. Not only is the film showing it's love for music but for the acting world too but I love how passionate Ryan's character is for the music and the way he speaks about it too. Truly a wonderful film that is amazing in every way and made me feel every single emotion when watching.

Strange but fantastic performances and message
4 March 2024
Very unique and strange film but pretty good all in all. The story was quite well told through this strange quirky story where Bella is new to the world and is vulnerable before she learns about it all where she is taken advantage of, as she develops into her own woman and is experiencing and learning beyond what she's being told she is coming to terms with what the world is and the people in it and who she is and the men around her don't like that. The movie has some good comments on identity and feminism which I liked and messages regarding humanity itself and philosophies. All the performances were really good, Emma Stone was really odd in this but played this character really well as she shifts from immature to mature and knowledgeable. Mark Ruffalo wasn't the nicest character to Bella but he was so good and honestly quite hilarious at times. Even Bella's character said some hilarious things at times. The cinematography and camera work was very unique and I really liked that a lot, it was quirky and fit the film well. It's also surprisingly violent at times. My main issue is that it was too long and dragged a bit, I think they could've easy cut out some of the scenes when we she in Paris to tidy up the film a bit. Overall a very quirky film with a great cast and great performances and some good comments woven into the story.

Real cinema is so back!
1 March 2024
This movie blew me away! It was insanely good! A long and epic movie full of more crazy world building and an intense action packed story throughout. The cast were really amazing, every single one but the stand out was Austin Butler who played his villainous role to perfection, he was cunning and brutal and his performance was just so intense. The whole film was quite brutal actually especially with more action scenes too and the sound designs were brutal aswell, I can really see why it's been compared to the empire strikes back. Every scene was golden, the acting, the visuals and the cinematography again on point but even better this time showcasing some fantastic epic action scenes and sandworms being seen a lot more. The movie was just so damn intense I loved it so much and the feuds between the houses and Paul getting to this Messiah role was just such a great story. The dialogue in this was so engaging and rich I loved every line. The new characters and lore were a treat and added to the story perfectly. The score was brilliant and elevated the scenes. It ended better than the first to set up the next one too and I'm so hyped to see more I can't wait, I think Villeneuve might be one of the best directors of our time and this movie should be nominated for many oscars cause it was perfect! Overall this is a perfect movie that is so thrilling and so damn intense to watch and is masterfully crafted across every area of filmmaking.
