Glass (2019)
Glass Broken?
Ok, if I watch this movie as Unbreakable and Split's sequel, there are many big questions, how could Shyamalan did this with one of his best efforts? How nobody saw the weaknes of it? The logical mistakes everywhere and the weak plot? How could he say, ok that's it, let's go to the premiere?
But! If the whole story and the first 2 movies are really something comic-like I have no words. Because, everything what I saw here in Glass would be perfect in a comic book. No one would say, man that's are not okay, 'cause nobody really cares stuffs like these in comic books. Its logical or not, could this happend or not...
Glass has a really strange, but cool mood, 3 perfect actors (especially and finally Bruce Willis again), amazing camera work and great music.
Maybe not the best way how Shyamalan did his finale film in this trilogy and thats why Im a little bit angry about, but still works fine to me. 7/10
Wake of Death (2004)
Not enough...
At first, I'm a Van Damme Fan. I like him since Bloodsport and shame or not but I hate him since UniSol2. I think everyone knows why... Since 1999 something broke his ego. Maybe, it was his mental problem and the thing with drugs or the world changed but something moved in different way. Sadly all these came back in movies too. Everyone who watched JCVD knows this. He tried and tried to became an actor against martial arts star, but I think he is much more a fighter like an actor. And that was what I always loved in Van Damme. I think this move isn't good. It want to be a drama-action flick but it works not. There are so many weak moments. Please, I think who loves action movies knows what's the different between good and bad. Cheap effects, laughable scenes with overplayed characters kills everything. JC is OK, the problem is the story the cast and directing. Everything is B... Double Impact was B-movie too, but million miles away from this. In 1990 there was mood and an elegant style for these kind of movies. I think after the year 2000, this kind of cinema is only for renting. Somewhere in the past Van Damme was a cinema star, not only a product for DVD... I hope he shows us more JCVD in the future!
Merry Madagascar (2009)
Happy Holidays King Julian!
So, at first! I think this short is much better than the second part of Madagascar. This Christmas special has a very good mood and super ideas for the story. After Santa crashes, Alex and his co. are the only ones who can save Christmas. But they want also back to New York so they think maybe this could be a good way to find the way back home. Of course with this plan comes a lot of funny and adventure full happenings so we can laugh almost 30 minutes with our good-known crew. The only disappointing is the short running time, it could have been a new movie. Everything was made so well here that I haven't enough after the end! I hope the third part will be like this or better!
The Wrestler (2008)
What else left to say?
OK, I didn't want to talk about the movie itself, because I hope everybody knows something about. It's a genius thing what happened and that's the point! I love the cinemas, always loved. And I love all the workers in it. I love the mood and the feeling of celluloid. And there is an actor now days, called Mickey Rourke. He was a superstar back in the 80s. Than, fate came and everything changed. He had a plan, to make a professional boxing career. And gone came something wrong. Mickey Rourke destroyed himself. He lost everything and everyone around him. He fell down and nobody thought, he can climbing up again. 10 years gone. World and media changed, Rourke didn't... he was there, lying in self destruction, pain and anger to being what he became. But a miracle was waiting him. He became a second chance to proof, Mickey Rourke is still amazing. And he did it. Stood up, worked hard, and reached again everything with a role in Darren Aronofsky's excellent, new movie. Rourke is back, and maybe better than ever. Deservedly. Now, everyone knows fighters can loose, but all of them has a power within to strike again, and climbing up to the top of the world. I wish Mickey Rourke a long and successful life, good health and a lot of power to working!
Fast & Furious (2009)
Again, again...here again
Everybody knows the story and the ratings of the Furious movies. Since the first one, something gone wrong and all the actors and all the movies made a wrong turn. The second part was good and the third OK, but the changes made it worse than the others. And now, here are they again. The original cast is back, and the 4th movie works. I think the most reason is Vin Diesel, who made this franchise famous. His character, Dom is the essence in the Furious films. Paul Walker of course is still good in his role, and the girls too.The story is OK, nothing special, but enough. Runtime is 107 minutes, that is a special happiness for me. I hate short movies! Here, everybody has enough time to feel the mood. The car scenes are cool, and there is a lot of good known action, where Mr. Diesel shows us how to do... Fine! The rating is OK, this movie is a big thumb up!!!
Knowing (2009)
Wow!!!
Yes, this is it! Alex Proyas did it again! My all-time cult movie(The Crow)director did it again. And there is Nicolas Cage again, in a role where we can see him really acting, not doing this boring B-Movie stuff. Amazing, how I liked this movie, and it's because there is only the taste of Hollywood in it. Nothing more, just the feeling. The story is a good mix of number mystic and alien terror. With characters I haven't seen since Dark City. And that's why I especially liked this Proyas work. The good known dark shadows are here again... Nicolas Cage is believable, and it's a big happening for me, because I like him very much! Yes, this kind of acting made him for an Academy Award winner. I really don't know where he was in the last 3 years...? OK, we all know Alex Proyas. And I really hoped that this movie will be a shocker too. The first half of the movie is a little bit usual, but than begins changeling. The mystic grows, and we see something like never before. The end is the biggest surprise. Everything is different like in other movies, and that's why I think this is a phenomenal work! Congratulation! I'm ready to wait another 5-6 years for a new Proyas movie, because time is the answer for perfection!
Taken (2008)
Holy SH*T!!!!
Man, that was amazing!!! Liam Neeson in a movie like he had never be! Very good action-thriller combo, a huge kick ass surprise! A must see in every opinion! Now for real, I never toughed that an actor like Neeson can do something like this. One of my favorite acting he made once was Schindler's List, and he is back again after years full of nothing special. OK, maybe Star Wars flick was there, but it has nothing to do with this man here. A new kind of Neeson can we see there, and I think everybody who likes action movies like the new Bond and Bourne says the same as Iam: Holy SH*T, that was super!!! I'm waiting for the next project with Mr. Spielberg "Lincoln" too!
The Strangers (2008)
Yes, we know movies enough like this, but still a must see!
OK, nothing new but the actors! Liv Tyler and our Underworld hero are perfect together in this new but not new enough movie. Typical story with very good parts! Simple horror, no monsters just madness and massacre. Yes, we saw thing like this enough I think, but this is one of the good ones. Brutality and no mercy are the rules this evening. Watch it and scream! The sound and vision are perfect together, and the not Hollywood ending makes this short film OK! A really good first film after we realized that this is nothing special new just a horror trip in our hated nightmares...and of course it actually happened...really? Don't know, but I was little bit nervous after watching this. And that's the point!
Mirrors (2008)
Not good as Aja's first effort.
Mirrors is a typical remake of a Korean movie -of course-. A lot of good thinks between a lot of usually known things. B-movie in A-quality. The scary parts are frightened enough, only the well known story is a little bit boring again. Kiefer Sutherland plays well the typical ex-cop alcoholic, divorced father. But I think we saw a lat of these characters on screen in the last 20 years. The mood is still good, so thats why I try to say: Watch it! There is a really good moment in the middle of the movie...in a bathroom!!! Alex Aja is a good horror director, but I think he should proof us something new too. Maybe a really movie with actors like Sutherland in a different story. Hope so, it will happen!
Voces inocentes (2004)
Teardrops...
This is a wonderful movie. Amazing actors, especially the kids, beautiful and also disturbing pictures about the life in a war zone. Well made directing by a formerly Hungarian director(just like me). And of course the heartbreaking music too makes this movie unforgettable. It's sad that what we can see here are real...shame for those people who want more and more power by killing others. Spanish voice is the best here. I don't know why, but it's more powerful with the original language. Truly moving piece of cinema art! I'm really happy to have this movie at home. A war movie where we can see teardrops falling into river of blood on the dirty floor... A must see!
Replicant (2001)
Good as Van Damme always wants to be good!
I think we can never wait an A+ movie from the Belgian martial arts star. But between all those weak movies he made after his only one chance period, this is a big-good-surprise. Maybe it's Ringo Lam the answer or maybe Van Damme realized, that he must turn his character in a better way. I don't know but Replicant works for me. Okay I was a big fan of JCVD in the '90s. And I always hoped maybe Tarantino will bring him back to the top 10. The Replicant is not a typical Van Damme movie. He plays a double role like in Double Team but the story is much better than in 1990. It's not perfect there are typical B-movie parts and we can clearly see here is nothing to do with Hollywood. In his way with the good(!!!) acting of JCVD and Michael Rooker Replicant goes higher than we can imagine. Van Damme's double character is good enough. Action comes with the evil side and feelings and a lot of things more with the "clone". Some parts of the movie are really good. Especially when Rooker punishes Van Damme in the basement. A really good scene!!! So, maybe You like him, maybe not give him a chance! It's worth to see and wonder how can a B-movie star climbing near to the top of the Hollywood mountains.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Masterpiece, or maybe something more!!!
YES! YES! And again YES! This is what we are waiting for since the cult comic "The killing joke". That kind of Batman is more darker than Shumacher's version and Tim Burton's classic. OK, Burton made it well. The first Batman and the new one...maybe these are the best comic adaptations(side by side with The Crow). Unbelievable what Nolan made. Perfect, in every way! Batman Begins was the first level, Dark knight is better then Batman ever! Christian Bale is still -maybe- the best Bruce Wayne/Batman with his amazing scary voice as the Dark Knight over Gotham. Jim Gordon played by Gary Oldman(Who was a little bit down in the last few years) is still perfect. Aron Eckhart and Harvey Dent's transformation is perfect in visionary! I Couldn't believe my eyes! The story is more realistic than in the first Nolan movie. It's like a crazy crime story fulled with madness and colored deep DARK. Entertaining, full with action and the characters are very believable. And of course there is Heath Ledger. The best and only Joker forever! He was one of the biggest actors now days, and he couldn't proof it enough...I hope he will become an Oscar in Heaven! R.I.P. So, The Dark Knight is absolutely 10/10, or better! And everyone who's interested in it, go to the Cinemas! It's amazing on big screen! "Why so serious?!"
The Happening (2008)
There is something more in this...
The Happening is a good movie! And not as bad as many people says. Not perfect, not super but still good. Better than the water girl. Much better. Shymalan's big problem is here, that he can't give us new story anymore. The plot is the same since Signs. This is the biggest problem with this movie. The actors are good for me. Maybe the acting is a little bit strange, not usually... but still works. Especially Mark Wahlberg was fine. I think the script was mot enough. The story was good, but the script I think is too small. There are some really scary scenes, and the cinematography works perfect. The score is good. James Newton Howard feels again what Shyamalan wants to say. So, with a better script and a longer movie and more time to finished completely the Happening could be a perfect work. But now it is a money pit. A little bit shame for Shymalan. I think he must think about these before his next idea! But I still believe him!
Rambo (2008)
Rambo is back after 20 years!
After Rocky Balboa, Stallone is back again with his another cult character Rambo. In the 80's these movies made him what he is today. On of the most known action star. The new Rambo is brutal and bloody, full with fantastic action scenes. Stallone is in good condition enough to play his famous role again. Fantastic with age 60! The story is simply but enough. Civil war in Burma, innocent people dies, and Rambo goes angry. But! It's too short, the entire film is only 80 minutes. The oldies are 90 or 100. And it's a little bit fast. There is not enough emotion or feelings. Rambo kills and kills and kills. I think it would be better maybe when the story follows the older ones. Rambo will kidnapped and he must escape and survive. That's my only big problem with Rambo 4. OK, the visual is perfect. Explosions, bodies falling in pieces, everywhere is flushed with blood and brain. But, the character is a bit simply and empty. Yeah, I know, Rambo is alone since ages and he want's nothing but his piece...he can't find it again. He's a Terminator! He must kill! He's back!!! And still perfect, congratulation Sly!
Schindler's List (1993)
Never Forget!!!
There are many horrible things what happened with us human beings since we are on this planet. Crimes, wars, terror, fear and death illness sickness everywhere. The most things in our history are forgotten because it's too lot for us. But, some things are still here in our mind and life as a brutal portrait about what humans can do with ourself. One of these happenings are the World war I-II. The terror and brutality was never so perfect and planed. The story of the Jew's and other innocent nations between 1939-45 is never to forget. Steven Spielberg one of the best directors our time made an unforgettable masterpiece with Schindler's List in 1993. The story of Oscar Schindler the businessman who saved more than 1000 Jewish life at the end of the German terror is more than a movie. It's a documentary of years full with pain, fear and death. We can clearly see what happened in Europe and most in Poland until WWII. Spielberg's directing art in his most touching movie is phenomenal. The cinematography with the beautiful heart touching music of John Williams and the powerful acting with names like Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson and of course Ben Kingsley made an excellent work. Everyone should see this to never forget and maybe understand what can happen when mankind goes crazy. And if you can go to Poland, You should visit Krakow and the place where the Jewish ghetto was in Kazimierz. Or simply travel to Auschwitz where You can see everything what happened. And if You are there, visit the unforgettable memorial museum in Birkenau too. You'll return with something special in Your mind and heart. It's called love and piece...
Cassandra's Dream (2007)
Woody - In his best
Woody Allen's other side, where the thriller is in the middle, works fine again in his new movie. Starring Evan McGregor and Collin Farrel this unique -typical- English crime story is very interesting and well made too. Allen's style in everything what he make is here, but thats the point! He's films full with fun and good acting mixed with thriller is always something special. The story is not new but works fine all the time. The psychical part of the story makes Allen's new film one of his best I think! And of course there are the girls! Beautiful as always. The master has a very good eye for them. I hope he will and can make a lot more movies like this in the future, because without him would cinema not the same!
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Indiana Jones is still the same!!!
After 20 years we have him back again in his famous roll. Harrison Ford plays Indiana Jones again with all the stuff we ever liked! Steven Spielberg and George Lucas made a movie like they haven't made for long - long time. I don't understand the people they say there are lots off unbelievable things in the story. This is what made Indiana films always good. In all the old movies there were a lot of things like in the new one. Waterfalls, spiders and insects, enemies and of course mystery too. OK, maybe the close encounters at the end are a little bit unusual but I think they still works well! There is good humor, effects, and everything we want in a movie like this. The actors, especially Ford made everything well! I haven't seen him acting so good in the last 10 year. This is a job for him. All the new characters are made well, Cate Blanchett is brilliant. And the youngest Jones too! I think this is a good adventure movie for those they still believe in our hero today... Let's go Indiana Jones!!!
Superhero Movie (2008)
This rating is wrong!!!
So, after all these years full with terrible parodies and new members in this business I was afraid before this movie. I thought, yes this would be another sh*t... And see what happened! I Haven't seen something good like this since the "Naked Gun" and "Hot Shots". OK, the story isn't good enough but this is a movie parody with a lot of good humor and that's the point! The humor works! The actors with master Nielsen too! It's nice to see him again in his best form! I've had fun all the time! There are of course some hard things but I think this kind of movie is only watchable with some stuff like these. So, I say, it's worth to see!!! I'm not kidding!!!
Körhinta (1956)
Masterpiece!!!
I'm from Hungary like this masterpiece. Zoltán Fábri the famous director made an excellent work about the story how the hard working people of Hungary lived in the '50s. Mari Törőcsik is still one of our favorite and talented actress and her partner here, Imre Soós was maybe our best actor at the time. He died young, so I think we must be proud of his energetic acting what he shows us in this movie. The most known words of this year was: "Land marries land". This tells us everything about the life in the middle '50s in our country. The cinematography is wonderful, also the classic Hungarian folk music which we can listen all the time. Maybe nowdays this kind of movie is too slow, and most of the teenagers smiles when they see this. But it was true, and very sad. Life is much more easier in 2008. But our grandparents lived there, and it was not easy. I've loved them telling about the past much more than everything, life is sometimes too short! I hold them in reverence! So, let's go and see this movie because it's a real unique art of cinema!
Into the Wild (2007)
Let's go, into the wild!!!
First, I'am from Hungary(Central Europe) a little bit far from Alaska. That's why I never heard about Chris, and his story. But, I've always loved Sean Penn. As actor, and of course as director too. That was the first reason to see what he made. Into the wild is now one of my favorite movie ever. This story is about what most people have forgotten. True life, without anger and pain and the blind-boring every days. Without work and stress...I think everybody would need something like this. Yes, it's not normal, especially not the tragic ending but I still understand why Chris made this. The movie shows almost everything about those 2 years. Travelling around Mexico and Canada, and the wilderness of Alaska. Emotions, feelings, love, pain, fear and danger. Sean Penn did the directing very well! The actors are good too, but the most touching thing is to me the music by Eddie Vedder. The song "Hard Sun" is unforgettable! Movies like this are the unique from Hollywood!
Over the Top (1987)
Classic!!!
Stallone made his best in the 80's. These "forever young" movies like Cobra, Rambo and of course this one are the essence of an actor who made a lot of things possible for his fans. Stallone will never be Al Pacino, but we never wanted this. His character and face gives us everything in his well known films. Akction and emotion are together in Over the top too. Lincoln and his son's story are one of the best in the Cannon-Era. Directed by Menahem Golan with good cinematography and very good, retro soundtrack. It's more than 20 years since this movie came out but I still say, it's worth to see, and wonder how the peace full years of the 80's were! Great remembrance!
The Crow: Salvation (2000)
Why?!
This film was a BIG mistake. After the first 2 movies, the fans of "The Crow" saga made enough money to put this and the second terrible sequel together. This movie has nothing to do with the originally, brilliant cult movie with Brandon Lee. The story and the actors are so boring and useless that I had to laugh when I saw this crap. The makers they put this together are blind? I don't know who is this director phenomena, but I think he never saw anything about James O Barrs' comic or the first movie. The actor with the name Eric Mobius and his story with the burning scars on his face as a mask are so-so silly. Just try it once, you'll see...
I Am Legend (2007)
Not so good like the trailer
The first what I saw in Iam Legend was the city without life. That worked perfect. Very good pictures and cinematography. The story is a little bit slow, we know -I think- a lot of movies like this but it still works for maybe 50 minutes. There are some interesting scenes and a good start. After them, there is a big break in the movie. After the first hour we see nothing special or new stuff more. The CGI effects and the story goes down fast. And at the end I asked myself: why? Why happened that again. Hollywood destroys a good idea again. This movie would be better with a European director. They can do much more than money making. Will Smith was -thanks God- good in this character, he is the only one worth to see. And of course his dog. Shame...
The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005)
Oh my God! Please...
My almost top ten favorite movie is since I'm 14 "The Crow" with B.Lee. I love it too much, to say there is a good sequel from it. No. There isn't. The second part was OK, the third terrible and this... i don't know what to say about. It's a big hole with full of sh*t... I hope lot of people around the world understand with me, because the original movie was one of the biggest thing in my life. I'm very sad, because there are a lot of emotions in the story and I can't understand how the sequels are so stupid and cheap, full with action(worse action)against feelings and love... I hope there will be no more movies with this title, because Brandon will really come back to make the wrong things right!
