Ark: The Animated Series (2024)
Don't listen to the haters
The show is amazing. Not the best defiantly but it is very good. I've been playing Ark since before Scorched Earth in 2016 and as such a huge fan of the games I can confidently say that the animated show is better than I could've expected
The show really stays true to the game from big things like map areas, creatures or characters to small things like the salutes, artifacts and music. This is a show for the Ark fans while still being enjoyable for people who haven't played the game much or at all
Looking at the trends of video game adaptations into shows and movies this is a top tier piece of media compared to many other shows and movies. The animation is energetic and vibrant. The writing is catching and the direction is engaging.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (2023)
Fun all around
Is this a masterpiece, no. But the first one wasn't either. It's meant to be a fun watch and that's what it is. It feels like classic Aardman for a new generation with similar slapstick and animation mixed with a compilation of new jokes and an excellent improvement on the classic stop motion animation.
A few jokes do fall flat but it's still got the same witty humor and fun animation. Going with a new cast is a bold move but considering the original was 23 years ago I'd say it isn't insane for them to get a new cast considering most of the main cast hasn't done much work since the mid 2010's.
All in all a fun movie that has the old Aardman charm that blends nicely with new generation.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
For fans of a fun time
This is a movie for the fans of the first few Five Nights at Freddy's games and for fans of a nice scary/mystery movie
This isn't a movie for people wanting an extreme horror movie or the next movie of the year who are ready to critique everything
The movie is a departure from the games but that isn't saying much when the original game it's based on is just a guy sitting in an office for 6 hours while looking at a computer screen. The movie effectively used the little bits of lore in the first game and made an interesting story out of it.
Set design was really good, lighting had many interesting moments, the horror aspect used the mascot horror effectively and the plot was decent. All in all it played to the strengths of the mascot horror genre while keeping the mystery aspect interesting.
Megamind (2010)
One of the best animated movies
The animation is great and the comedy is greater. The undertones about nature vs nurture are great as well. The comedy of this movie is unlike any other. No matter how many times I've seen this it never fails to make me laugh and it always cures any sadness. The characters are also amazing and have amazing development. Megamind from a young age wanted people to like him but when no one does he accepts that no one ever will so he embraces it. But once he has a chance to wipe away peoples preconceived notions of him he learns that if he just removes the act and acts like himself people can like him.
Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans (2021)
Amazing for long time fans of TOA but ruined by ending
(TLDR) As a long time fan you will have a good time watching this movie. It has the same feel and style of the series with more budget and scale. Falls flat and ruins the entire series with the ending. If you are a fan of the world and characters, do yourself a favor and stop at Wizards. Will leave you with a better satisfying conclusion than this movie.
I have been a huge fan of Tales of Arcadia since the first season of Trollhunters I was very excited about this movie and it's finale for this world and it's characters. This movie however ruined the entire series.
Without going overly in-depth with the entire plot and characters I'll just say that the fight scenes and general plot is great. Animation is even more amazing. The characters are the same as in the series and feel the same in this.
{{SPOILERS AHEAD}}
The ending is just awful. It completely ruins the characters as far as motivations and character arcs. Toby dying was a good conclusion to his character. He got a full arch and finally got to be a useful character and not just the comedic relief but then going back to the beginning reversed everything we have seen every character in this series go through. It makes the journey we have been on with these characters and world feel incomplete since it never happened. Not only that but Jim deciding to let Toby become the Trollhunter instead of him just completely ruins it. All in all it's just the worst ending they could have made for the characters and the universe.
Also Steve's character and just everything with him loses this 5 stars immediately, just no, with all of him in this.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2021)
Good if you aren't a long time fan
(TLDR) As someone who has always liked the idea of He-Man but not the execution I decided to give this show a try and I was throughly surprised. It has its moments as any show aimed at a younger audience does but it is entertaining enough that an older audience can still enjoy it, with or without kids.
If you are a long time fan of He-Man, especially the 80's style you might not enjoy this series as much. Partially from the style shift from a more western 80s cartoon to a modern 3D. Partially because, from what I can grasp, the world is very different in atmosphere and build. If you go into it not expecting the same experience you got from the original you'll have a good time.
As someone who (by personal opinion alone) wasn't a fan of the 80s He-Man I enjoyed the new technology theme and updated characters of the new show. It has annoying filler episodes as every show does and a bunch of jokes that fall flat but all in all it's an enjoyable watch with a decent plot to carry it and I look forward to the 3rd season. It's a simplistic show all in all. Enjoyable on a base level but I defiantly recommend going into it not expecting a masterpiece.
Fireheart (2022)
Better then I expected
I went into this movie not expecting much as it didn't give me any reason to. While watching the movie I kept going between liking the movie and feeling neutral towards it. I like the relationship building between the father and daughter, but I disliked the flat side characters and odd attempts at humor.
The animation is good and flows nicely (the smoke and ember were hypnotic and beautiful). Now of course it's not Pixar tier but it's not bad for it's budget and animation studio.
The one of the main reasons that holds this movie back from being great is the side characters. They are as 1 dimensional as you can get but that's ok. They don't serve much of a purpose for anything other than moving the story along or provide occasional attempts at comedy and that's ok. The spot light always return to the father and daughter, it doesn't linger on the side characters for too long.
The villain is a little obvious but at the same time the motivations were interesting. They played off the conflict between the father and daughter in an interesting way.
All in all I'd say this is a good movie. Not great because it has its flaws, as every movie does, but it's a nice movie if you want a heartwarming story (pun intended) with good animation that will leave you feeling good after.
NOW, I would rate this a 7/10 but there are a lot of people who are rating this movie a 1/10 because it's "pushing an agenda" so I'm trying to counter it a bit. In response to the people upset that the movie is "pushing an agenda" I say that it isn't really isn't. Its not a story for people like you who don't want to let women do things men can do, it's a story for young women who don't think they can do things men can do. It's encouraging them to not let anyone stop them from achieving what they want in life because they are a women.
