The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot (2018)
This is such a bad film
The actors are all great, the story isn't even that awful, but boy howdy is this a bad film. From the very beginning when you find a down and out Sam Elliot in a seedy bar washing down decades of regret. Then they cut to the next day and he's in a cheery kitchen with happy piano music in the background. There's no consistency or continuity. Stuff like massive forest fires are there one scene and gone the next.
My favorite part is when Elliot thinks the villain is dead and tries to burn the body only to find out he's still alive and fighting. I'm not even going to spoiler that because from the title alone you have no idea whether I'm talking about Hitler or Bigfoot. This is a terrible film, but probably worth a rental because, again the actors are all pretty good.
Larry Miller is great as the brother, but he looks like a fat Deadpool now.
Cook Off! (2007)
It's like a time capsule to pre-Obama America
It's an alright movie. It's just weird because it was filmed in 2007 and not released for another decade. In that time Melissa McCarthy got significantly more famous and the trailers over hype her role.
Also, one actor died years ago so it's a little odd seeing her in a new movie.
Overall not a bad way to spend a couple of hours, especially if you like watching cooking competitions.
The Mist (2017)
It's what you'd expect
There's nothing highbrow about this and it doesn't follow the original story. Three episodes in and it looks like a standard 'pick off a couple of secondary characters a week'. That's not to say it's bad, it's just not all that good.
The special effects are sparse, the acting is meh, and it seems to be going for a more...magical cause and effect. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I long for the rational explanations of the original book/movie. Physics and laws of nature don't necessarily apply anymore.
The worst part is Spike TV by far. If you thought you noticed a few more commercials, you're not wrong. Spike TV has the longest commercial breaks in TV and it really bogs down the pace.
Overall it's alright. I kind of wish we had more cheap and disposable limited series like this. You don't need to get too invested and it's entertainment that doesn't tax your brain much.
