Turn Up Charlie (2019)
Bizarro
In episode 1 we see a kid in a rainbow tshirt stealing a dildo and later manipulating her rich snowflake dad with pleas that she is going through a hard time choosing how to express her sexuality. A kid. The kid then proceeds to be an obnoxious little psycho for the rest of the show.
Real shame because the other characters seemed to be developing nicely and then this freak is introduced to throw the whole thing under a bus.
Maybe wait for some new AI video editing tool and then delete the kids audio-visual track from sight. The story would stop making sense and the other characters would appear to be talking to ghosts but that would still be an improvement.
Bros (2024)
Brilliant!
Difficult to write a review of this without giving too much away.
This is a gem that has you biting your nails, crying, smiling, and sometimes just mouth agape as the whole spectacle unfolds.
The football element is much smaller than the synopsis suggests. Much of the tale is about the lives and loves of the small community in and around the bar. These lives are rich, with the main protagonists being really able to take some hard knocks, dust themselves off and shrug it all off with some strong booze and a few laughs.
Most of this is set somewhere in Israel with some hilarious escapades in Krakow, Poland where the final match takes place.
This is a heartwarming tale about two old friends that takes you all over the emotional map. You will love it.
AKA (2023)
Spoilers!
I am surprised people wonder why Sonia died. The newsreel on tv/radio explained afterwards in Paris that she was being held hostage in exchange for release of terrorists, but she was also due to be interviewed by the ONU for information she had on Western interference in the region. She was assassinated by the same corrupt officials that "Adam" eventually turned against.
I suspect the lower rated reviews are by those who couldnt keep up with the subtitles.
All in all a John Wick style shoot-em-up with really top notch acting of engaging characters. At times this film pulls the heart strings.
Threads (1984)
I watched this on acid.
There is a dark shadow embracing the world today. Threads shows where we are all going.
There is no heaven. Threads shows that we must embrace death as respite.
True Story (2021)
Excellent dark comedy, superb production and acting.
The vibe of a Scandinavian dark comedy thriller with an Afro-American flavour. Next-level acting and slick production. Some elements of the plot line highly predictable, but with many fascinating twists and turns that keep you enjoying the ride regardless.
