Fallout (2024)
They nailed it!!
No spoilers, no nonsense, just a few facts.
This time Amazon nailed it. With a nail gun!!
I did not have high hopes for this one based on the current streak that all companies have with productions (bad CGI, bad stories, agendas, no true character development etc) but this time I literally took a Fat Boy to the face :)
(those who got it, got it...)
This is how you bring a female lead character into view and get audiences to love it.
She ain't super powered, she ain't badass...she BECOMES one as her story evolves...
The choice of Walton Goggins was masterfully spot on, although I know people initially had doubts, but the man is amazing!! Bravo!
To top it off, there is huge fan service with all sorts of goodies from the game franchise.
And they keep the lore!!! That was a first!!!
It seriously gets you hooked for season 2 because the three main characters and all the supporting ones have stories! You get to see development! And background.
All in all, this is a great show if you are used to good shows and a masterpiece amidst a sea of mostly mediocrity!
That is how it's done!!
Ahsoka (2023)
So much plot armor it makes you cringe...
Yes, I can't stress the title enough.
Feels like everything is made to go one way.
It has the feel of a kid show (like Rebels - which WAS a kid show).
Everyone does stupid things, never pays the price, is encouraged (Sabine - Ahsoka) and the bad guys just suck at everything.
Filoni took Storm Trooper missing to a whole new level - pilots who can't shoot straight at a non moving vehicle (last episode). I was basically cringing at the moment.
Maybe keep Filoni writing for kids and leave the adult stuff to grown ups (like Jon Favreau maybe)
Anyway, other than the plot armour, the other problem is that if you're new, you have to sit thorough Rebels and Clone Wars to get to know these people.
Otherwise, no background is presented. Which is a writing and directing foul.
The acting is mehhh...
I agree with another review that said they look bored. Damn straight.
Ahsoka, Hera, Sabine (awful acting) and Ezra (mehh).
A very anticlimactic Thrawn...I mean seriously, casting did a mishap there.
Ray of light was Ray Stevenson's (R. I. P) Baylon and his apprentice Shin played by Ivanna Sakhno.
Unfortunately for us we will not see a conclusion there.
A great man has passed away and he's not replaceable.
The acting and dynamic of the two of them was the best thing for the show.
Castlevania: Nocturne (2023)
Netflix does it again...
The animation is the only reason it gets a 4.
There is literaly nothing else...
Especially when we get to the preaching of Annoynette...
Literally the dialogues and attitudes make you friendly to the vamps....
Just kill the brats and be done with it.
Having liked the previous Castlevania, Trevor would puke at his line at this point...
Oh, and of course all classic Netflix message agenda is force fed down our throats.
How did this end up with a 7?
And what is this about the reviews and length of characters...
The show SUCKS I do NOT want to say something else. Even the reasons are easy.....
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham (2023)
Lovecraftian Batman and done properly
Not one for many words, let me say this...
If you are a fan of the Bat and Lovecraft, this is a crossover at it's finest.
Alternate DC universe, set in the early 20th century as all proper Lovecraftian tales should be, mystical, maddening and not one for happy endings.
In the end of a proper Lovecraft story, people are either dead or insane. Period.
This was totally worth the watch.
And IMDB says my review is too short, so I have to keep going for a bit more...
Okay, I just thought of a way to make it a bit better...
Just add John Constantine...
But I'm a John fanboy, so maybe I'm biased.
There, min characters met for the review.
Black Adam (2022)
Potential & Dissapointment
Spoiler free so, not much to write about, but I wasn't expecting much from the movie before I started watching and I was disappointed at the end.
But not for the reason you might think.
I was disappointed because the thing had POTENTIAL!
And it was wasted in critical places that ruined the whole feeling.
There were WOW! Times followed in the next second by WTH? Moments and that ruined the whole momentum.
Too much CGI even in places where it could be avoided and some GIVE ME A BREAK moments (unreal in a Superhero movie, it says a lot)
Acting was...ok in some places, bad in others and...surprisingly bad in a couple (seriously lack of feeling and chemistry in a particular emotional moment between Fate and Hawkman comes first to mind).
A 6 for the potential of what might have been.
Shining Girls (2022)
Wasted Potential
I watch every time paradox, time travel etc flick out there and I like most of them contrary to whoever.
But I can't help bu be disappointed at this.
Acting is ok (a bit forced woke stereotypes but it's a time series so, i'll watch).
Story seemed enticing.
So episodes 1-4 are ok. Slow burn and really getting you there.
Then we start with the main character not making sense and we come to a finale that was just horrendous.
I guess they rushed it too much. Had other things to do...
What ever the case, they botched it.
Watch if you are a sucker for time flicks like me and prepare for a disappointment on how it's handled in the latter half.
The Blacklist (2013)
Spader FTW
It's all about James Spader. He alone could carry this to hell and beyond.
There are a few things wrong with this series (especially the latter seasons - concerning characters, plot points, realism) but I can not give it a lesser mark. Raymond Reddington won't let me!!
And as far as I am concerned, the main death on season 8 was a relief (finally!!) and I know after season 9 one more touchy feelly emotionally retarded character is gone (unfortunately not for good).
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Bad things come in threes
Luke in the sequels, Boba in the Book and now Obi-Wan
Well done Disney...
3 iconic characters destroyed from people with no respect to the franchise, history or lore.
Well done...That took effort.
I truly feel sorry that Ewan McGregor, Jimmy Smits and Joel Edgerton would have to count this amongst their credits.
They deserve better. They are the only ones acting.
Everyone else is just plain ...bad. I can't respectfully think of another word.
I mean really...the inquisitors are...oh my god (3rd sister in particular...seriously?!)
And the chase scenes...I mean, I thought others are exaggerating but no, no they are not. THEY ARE LAUGHABLE!!
3 out of 3 Disney! Let's destroy George Lucas legacy!
