Premonition (2007)
Potential but Plot Hole After Plot Hole
I used to watch this movie religiously as a kid so rewatching it as an adult, I had high expectations. It has so much potential but the main character makes so many idiotic decisions that don't make sense for someone in her position. Not to mention the glaring plot hole with the daughter's injury timeline. Overall I wish they would remake this movie and fix the errors because I still think it is a great premise and Sandra Bullock does an amazing job in her performance.
I really enjoy movies that jump in time so I have a lot of patience and this one wasn't hard to follow but it still could have been done better.
Jungle (2017)
Slow at times but an incredible tale
Wow! I felt the beginning quite slow and wasn't excited to keep watching. I continued on and I was definitely not disappointed!
After I finished the 1:50 minute runtime, I did some more digging into the events the movie is based on and WOW. This is the closest movie adaptation to what actually happened in real life that I have ever seen. I am floored at what the real Yossi faced and how well they captured his torment and journey in the film.
In actuality, this is a heartbreaking story. Despite everything Yossi went through, he was extremely lucky and I am happy I took the time to watch this movie, less because of the entertainment, but because I never would have learned of this truly devastating survivor tale.
Orphan: First Kill (2022)
Mixed review
Summary: hated the first half. Enjoyed the second.
Considering this was set in 2007, the police would have done a DNA test immediately and the entire plot would have fallen apart. I found myself bored of the movie until the twist in the middle which regained my interest. Overall it was an enjoyable watch even though I think the initial storyline could have been done differently. The guards at the Russian hospital were completely incompetent so I think her escape was lazy writing. I also find it odd they named the movie first kill when it wasn't her first kill? The acting was very good though in my opinion! I'm glad Orphan got another movie!
The First Purge (2018)
Overall not bad, but didn't set the scene right
I enjoyed watching the movie. I think it's no surprise that the Purge was originally a politically motivated stunt. What I don't understand is after all of that, the country would think it's a good idea to make it a country-wide annual event? I'm sure the survivors would have spoke up and said what really happened and if so, how would that have motivated it's reoccurrence? I think the acting was good, I watched the movie a little broken up since I needed to pause it a few times but I never felt too stressed for the characters which makes me believe the plot wasn't strong enough. Still not a bad watch and I like that they tried to do an origin story!
The Black Phone (2021)
Good but expected more
I think because I had heard from so many people how great this movie was, I was expecting a little bit more. Overall, it was good! I would still recommend it but it wasn't really a horror. More thriller.
In Darkness (2018)
Overall Good But A Few Issues
Overall I enjoyed this movie. However, the plot twist didn't hold up. SPOILERS AHEAD
I think the whole twist was it was her SISTER who was blind, not her. Then she took on her sisters blind persona after the massacre of her family. The biggest reason the reveal at the end didn't work for me was because of the scene where she drops the poison, if she had actually been able to see, she would have picked it up and used it immediately rather than give up her opportunity to kill him. I also don't like that we never find out what was really on the USB when it was a fairly big part of the storyline. The quality of the film and the acting was good but the storyline itself needed some tweaking.
The Rental (2020)
Sorry but it's boring
I wanted this to be good, the film quality exceeded my expectations but I was bored for 3/4 of the film and then the last 1/4 it finally got good and then it was over, Just wanted more.
