Fish Out of Water (2005)
Good Ending
This movie is a short comedy movie. It was made in 2005.
A man goes to work by rowing boat. One day, a woman finds his boat and asks him to take her to the office by his boat, because they can avoid traffic jams. He takes her on the boat and rows to the office. Another day she comes to the boat with another man. The man eats snacks and the woman smokes while they are in the boat. The number of people who ask to get on the boat is increasing day by day...
I thought this movie portrayed the folly of taking advantage of someone's kindness. People who came to the man's boat were too inconsiderate. It also tells the fact that if you cannot refuse any requests, people around you will become selfish. The man should clearly refuse their requests. I think it's a fine movie and has a good ending.
Lifted (2006)
Funny Movie
This movie was made in 2006. It's a short comedy movie.
One night, the swing is shaking. A house is illuminated by the light from the sky. There is a UFO. A boy sleeping in the house floats in the air and hits his head against the window. He hits his head many times. The boy is controlled by a little alien from the UFO who tries to carry the boy out, but he fails many times. There is another big alien who watches his operation and records something. He presses a lot of buttons while looking at the big alien's complexion, but it doesn't work. He finds the correct button, but drops the boy from the ship finally. Then, the big alien operates to put everything back. They go home with the little alien's driving...
It was an interesting movie. The little alien's face shows his situation. I like the big alien letting the little alien operate the spaceship at the end. I think it's good to watch the last scene which is especially interesting. I couldn't predict it.
Whacked (1998)
mysterious beginning
This is a short movie without dialogue made in 1998.
Sirens are ringing from many places and many ambulances comes to the town at the beginning. People suddenly collapse as if being shot. The scene changes to a man whose job is collecting golf balls at a driving range. He is frustrated by the golf balls hitting the ball recovery car. He steals some balls from where he works. Then, he goes up to the top of a high building and starts hitting them...
The picture of the man hitting balls from the top of the high building was unusual and interesting. I couldn't understand the story at once because it's a very concise movie. However, it was fun the second time. I like the situation at the beginning which is quite mysterious. You can't know what is happening or predict what will happen next.
Spielzeugland (2007)
Memorable Story
"Toyland" is a short movie about the Nazis and two families, made in 2007.
Jewish and non-Jewish families living in the same apartment are friends. Each family has a little son. One day, the Jewish family are taken to the station by Nazis. The non-Jewish mother tells her boy that their friend's family goes to "Toyland". Then, the son wants to go there with them. On the day that they are caught, the boy leaves his house secretly. His mother notices he isn't in his bed, and she goes to get him back. However, there isn't her son, when she looks for her son on the train. There is her friend's son...
This movie was hard to understand at first for me, but I was impressed by the memorable story. The mother's courage was so great. The sound and people's expressions in the movie made my heart race. Nevertheless, it has a good ending, I think.
It's very worth watching in the movie theater.
Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times (2017)
Interesting title
Alistair meets Samir for the second time at a cash point. Alistair gets annoyed because of his slow behavior. Then, he says to Samir some discriminatory remarks. A few years later, when they meet for the third time, Alistair takes an interview test to join a company. Samir is the CEO of the company. For the fourth time, Alistair loses his house. Samir passes by him and gives some money to help him. For the fifth time, Alistair works as a helper and comes to talk to an old man who seems to have dementia. The man is Samir. The last scene is the first time they meet in their childhood.
The genre of this movie was human drama, and it was made in 2017. It has an interesting structure. The key point is they meet as "two strangers" all the time. This is because one man doesn't remember the other for the last time they meet. I don't know whether they didn't remember intentionally or accidentally, but it is interesting to think about the story of the blank time. It's very worth watching.
The Lunch Date (1989)
Interesting Woman
This is a comedy short movie. It was made in 1989. A woman and a man eat lunch together in the story.
A woman who wants to keep everything clean misses a train and she has to wait for the next train. She decides to eat lunch, and buys a salad, but she notices that she didn't bring a fork. When she comes back to her table, a man is eating her salad. She begins to eat it with him with an angry face. They eat the salad together silently. A few minutes later, the man brings her a cup of tea. They spend a calm time drinking tea. After she leaves the restaurant, she notices that she left her luggage at her table...
I was very excited watching this movie. The woman was an interesting character to think about in her back story. She seems like a careless person, but she likes cleaning and she sometimes tends to blame others. I wish she would change her character after this. It is worth watching and should be interesting to you.
Three Days in Kamakura (2012)
Painfull and Impression
David is an English teacher for kids and lives with his wife, Keiko. There is a problem in their relationship. One student, who is a half- Japanese, half-Western boy, comes to David's English class. His mother is always late to pick him up. She doesn't come to school one day. David takes the boy home. David and Keiko spend a good time with the boy. Keiko says that David should call the police. However, David sees the boy's existence as fate, and says they can keep him and raise him together...
This movie was a short human drama, made in 2012. I was sad watching this, but it was interesting that the role of calming the mental state shifts from David to Keiko. They always support each other and the existence of the boy has changed their relationship well. I think this aspect gives hope to viewers. This movie is worth watching. You'll be reminded that everyone has hurt experiences in their life.
J'attendrai le suivant... (2002)
People may devided if they like or dislike
This movie was made in 2002. One woman who is about 40 years old and seems to be single, rides on a train. A man on the train near her starts to speak loudly. He speaks about his background, and says that he's looking for a life partner. Another man says to him "How about my wife?" He refuses politely and says that if there is someone who agrees with his vision of love, get off the train. Then, the woman gets off the train because she wants to marry.
The story was a little painful for me, because I sympathized with the woman. However, it was interesting for their performance and I might laugh if I were there. I think it is amazing that a woman expresses her character only with facial expression and gestures. I also think people may be divided if they like or dislike this movie.
Father and Daughter (2000)
nice to watch
One day a father and his daughter go to a river by bicycle. At the river side, he gives her a hug and leaves her alone and rows a boat. After that, the girl visits the riverside by bicycle again and again, but he is never seen there. She grows up and gets older and she makes new relationships with other people such as friends, a husband, and children. Finally, when she becomes an old lady and comes to the river as usual, the water in the river is gone. She starts to walk into the riverbed.
I think this story is about the life of a girl and her father's existence. The first scene suggests that the father died for some reason. Then she went to the river again and again because she couldn't accept that her father had died. However, she interacts with others and begins to move on with her life. The last scene probably represented her death.
I think it's a good movie. Because though there is no dialogue, I could understand the girl's growth and emotions from the animation. I also think it is nice that we are able to have various interpretations of the story.
