Crakk: Jeetega... Toh Jiyegaa (2024)
The Evolution of the Hindi Movie Industry Begins Here
A Gem taking steps towards Evolution of the Hindi Movie Industry.
This movie like its Pro- and An- tagonist is a beast all of its own nature.
I've read some of the negative reviews that are out there (likely paid for or coerced) and it's obvious these are reviews by people who have no clue what modern action sport is about.
It's often said that Vidhyut Jamwal is a better actor than most of his contemporaries and in recent movies he's proved his dramatic chops.
It is however good to see him go all in on the thing he does better than anybody (bearing in mind this is the guy various algorythms and people often place at the position of number 1 martial artist in the world ahead of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan).
So now to the plot, it's simple, not convoluted but far from boring. It's basically XXX meets Hunger Games on steroids (though we know both VJ and Arjun hate roids).
Now to performances. Vidhyut is there undisputed action king of India (likely even the world, though they don't know it yet).
VJ's stunt work and ability to emote with excellence is definitely the USP of this movie. It's leading man and producer takes charge and absolutely wows us with a breathtaking and exhilarating performance.
His scenes with Norah definitely plays on the chemistry that exists between them.
His scenes with Amy are hilarious and provide brilliant comic relief in a high energy action spectacle.
Conversely the heat between him and Arjun is perhaps nigh on primal when they appear on screen together.
Speaking of the erstwhile Mr Rampal. This dude is proof that chronological age is just a number. Many 60 year olds in the industry dehydrate themselves for 6pack abs and take roids to bulk up to a level. Arjun did what he's always done and looks like an absolute beast.
VJ mentioned that Arjun is Pagal he'd insist on doing the his own stunts and doing it exactly as the directors and stunt artists had shown him it can be done. VJ called him a stunt beast and mentioned he may be the only person in Bollywood crazier than him.
Norah in her first proper lead role looks good as always. She's hot, alluring and feisty. She definitely put everything into her stunts as did the entire cast. She's all in in what should be a game changer for her career.
Amy is hot as always. Her Hindi in a British accent is cute as always but what's different here is she's taken on action sequence that are unlike anything any other Bollywood actress has ever done before.
The music is impressive, it is a great variety of different genres with the highlight being Talent show sensation MC Square's reworked Rom Rom.
Vidhyut proves he can hold his own against anybody on the dance floor.
This movie gets an 11/10 from me.
If you are a fan of action movies and want to see Hindi cinema raise it's game this is a must watch.
Blue Beetle (2023)
Blue Beetle is a victim of James Gunns takeover
Blue beetle is a victim of James Gunns Belligerent attitude in his takeover.
Blue beetle may be the no1 movie at this US Box office but it's $25.4 million opening is way below expectations.
This however isn't a true reflection of the movies quality.
Blue beetle has had mostly good reviews.
I watched it myself recently and am able to say with full confidence that in a less turbulent time in DC movies this could've become one of the biggest properties in American cinema.
Jose is exceptional in his performance proving yet again what an excellent across he is.
Keeping the script ethnic Latino based was a stroke of genius and it works for the most part.
Direction isn't bad of a bit loose here or there.
The story is interesting.
In my opinion if not for the bad taste that anything related to James Gunns DCU leaves us with this movie could have been a huge success. Sadly Warner/Discovery have saddled us with yet another Fuhrer in the Guise of James Gunn and like myself most DC fans aren't gna support anything linked to them.
I feel bad for Mariduena he really put his heart into this and it shows.
#bluebeetlefails.
The Flash (2023)
Decent enough Film but far from what it should've been.
For a very long time now I've been very excited to watch the flash movie. The movie has gone through countless changes over the years and not all of them for the better.
This production is interesting, at some points very impressive but at others absolutely horrifying.
Despite Andres Muschiettis words that the flash is a Tribute to Zack Snyder and Ezra Miller saying that "No power or force in any known megaverse would or could ever erase Zack Snyder's mighty wrkz. You can take that quote. Take that to the bank, to the press, to the schools, to the military, to the other pillar of capitalism I'm forgetting cause of that thing where if you try to think of a group of things you always forget one of them" this still feels like a watered down version of what Snyder had in mind.
That being said movie is decent enough "the performances are excellent Ezra Miller is the perfect choice to play the flash, Batfleck is the ultimate Batman but Keaton's performance oozes nostalgia and is very good, young Sasha Calle is brilliant easily becoming the perfect Supergirl (I must admit though that I'd rather have seen Henry Cavill as Kal El in this movie) and even Nicholas Cage in his 15 seconds on screen gave us goosebumps imagining what Superman Lives would have been like had Warner Bros not been so short sighted.
The plot is the typical Flashpoint storyline with a few alterations. Once again one can't help but feel Snyder would have insisted on a more fleshed out story, this felt kinda paper thin at times. The CGI is definitely sub standard and no movie in the Zack Snyder era of the DCEU now the DCU was ever passed with such poor CGI. There are some very good emotional moments, lots of Nostalgia and performances Par-Excellence.
It's a good movie but isn't everything it should've been. Perhaps I'm being overly judgemental here but I feel the constant changes in management and direction messed this movie up badly.
Still it's worth a watch.
Unfortunately I don't agree with Andres Muschietti Zack Snyder should definitely not watch this movie. Being the man he is im certain hel be polite enough and encouraging but deep down inside I'm absolutely certain he'd be disappointed in the end result.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Very Poorly written sorry with pathetic acting
I at first thought maybe I'm being unfair but I began rewatching GOT after watching the hotd finale and it's truly chalk and cheese.
The story has too many holes and appears as though they are in a hurry to get somewhere ( unfortunately in almost every episode they go nowhere really fast).
The acting is sub standard at best.
Matt Smith and Emma D'arcey seem intent on trying to win the worst actor in the show award.
I must admit I like the dragons, definitely the highlight of the show thus far.
Ewan Mitchell and Olivia cooke deliver impressive enough performances but the rest of the caste is disappointing.
Direction too seems to lack, well simply put direction.
It's an effort that can be deemed average at best in terms of popular television but when compared to spectacle that was game of thrones it falls way short.
The best scene was the final scene of season 1 (in my opinion the only scene worth watching).
Disappointing to say the least.
Velle (2021)
Engaging Comedy Caper
One of the brighter comic capers.
It kinda reminded me of 3 idiots in many ways.
The story is about 3 young kids and one of them falls in love. During a staged kidnapping his gf actually gets abducted and how things unfold therefrom is the height of hilarity.
Munjals work as a movie maker is excellent, hats off the Ajay Devgan for even thinking of doing this and performances from a largely unknown cast are actually quite impressive.
I am a huge admirer of Abhay Deols work and once again he puts his best for forward. Karan Deol had his issues in his debut of PPDKP but seems to have overcome a lot of them and put in a confident and strong performance (definitely impressed). There other young stars do their job well, but are afforded little scope to shine. Mouni Roy is excellent in get cameo.
All in all one of the better comedy capers in recent times.
Om - The Battle Within (2022)
Enjoyable actioner starring the most talented of the Kapur/Kapoor actors.
It's far from perfect or flawless but there's high octane action, taut direction, an engaging story and excellent performances.
It's definitely an impressive effort.
