Black Mirror (2011– )
10/10
Wow. Idk what happened, but seems every viewer here is overly upset at nothing
30 November 2023
First, you can't just come here and review/rate everything but one season. This is all quite immature. It's like most of you are throwing a tantrum because the show didn't come back exactly how you like it and need it to be.

The entire show is awesome. Yes, the first seasons are better, but i think season 5 is good, and a lot of 6. I love the Red Mirror episode.

The disappointing thing is, a lot of you are only upset because of it not following some weird projected formula you came up with for it... As if it has to be that, or it's not Black Mirror. Shows change all the time, and do new things, different things. At it's heart, the show was still very much Black Mirror. It's even more sad because we could have had a new show from them... But everyone got upset that it wasn't the same, instead of just trying to watch it. I would have personally loved Red Mirror...

I agree that Netflix ruins most things they touch, but you dont really know what you are talking about here. And talking about netfliz prices in a review? Bananas.

I hope they come back to the Red Mirror idea again some day, and someone is willing to let them do it. Unfortunately everyone killed it...

Enjoyed this show until the sound production destroyed it
16 August 2023
I dont understand exactly what happened, but I have been enjoying both seasons of this show up until the finale of season 2, when to my dismay, someone thought it was a brilliant idea to use a loud knife sharpening and clanging sound over and over and over, every 5 to 10 seconds... And that's not an exaggeration.

When you have something like misophonia or even just highly sensitive ears, this means you can no longer watch a show like this - it's very much like someone using a bare fork on a plate, and loudly screeching it back and forth - piercing the ears painfully.

Why do it? It's unnecessary. The show was exciting enough - everyone was so good! I was tuned in, it was dramatic. This is disappointing.

Beside this upsetting and physically painful thing that makes me unable to finish the show, I enjoyed it, but being as I can't even finish the season, and this season has been super great, idk, that's not awesome. I'm sad.

I really enjoyed the idea. Fun while it lasted. Hope who I wanted to win, won.

One of my favorite shows
5 August 2023
I was very concerned this show would be canceled - it's just dissapointing to see so many people here hating on it, and I hope enough people enjoy what to me is a another great, weird, gem of a show that is filled to the brim with uniqueness. Add to that, Maria Bamford's voice talent - and many others.

When I discovered this show, I was extremely joyful - it's got a charm - many shows these days lack and seem to try too hard to find and never do. Hoping that others discover this show and start to like it more, because Adult Swim seems to have this habit of canceling shows just because they aren't the most popular - but they never know what might become a cult classic.

This show is funny and it's a shame it was canceled.
14 March 2023
I don't know why every one has lost their minds and their sense of humor. Its really a shame. This show has everything. It's actually very creative. I don't even think people realize that even if it's not trying to be creative, and it's a joke. Everything in the show is really on point.

The weird and surreal things that they do on the show are so fun to watch and they have me just bursting with laughter at times. The jokes are perfect and the show is one of the few things that I have found in a long time that I liked this much but it's too bad that it's yet another thing that's been canceled.

The fact people dont understand is even more sad. ☹ I really wish there had been more of this.

Another cop propaganda
19 October 2022
I tried to watch this and found myself laughing at the terrible dialogue way too much. I couldn't take it seriously. The writing was bad, and the acting was even worse - but I don't know if they're to blame with such a script. I would recommend a better cop drama if that's what you want, or a better DC show if that's what you're looking for. This is honestly just a joke - and not a good one.

I couldn't even keep watching this... it was cringe. I dont understand why people think it's so "incredible" and "intelligent". It was trying so hard to be those things that it was difficult to watch. ...

I would recommend Titans - that's how you do origin stories.

Netflix raised my subscription cost to make this & didn't even bother making it good?!
25 June 2022
Rowan obviously deserves better thaption price so freaking high unless they're going to give us better content. This was also a waste of Atkinson's talents. He's very funny. This is just a negligent comedy homicide. What's with all the great reviewn to be in something so dreadful. I couldn't make it past the first 8 minutes of this. It was extremely slow, and everything looks so fake and sterile- it feels that way, too. I didn't find anything funny. It looked as if it would be- and had the potential, which is common for Netflix projects, but they didn't put enough money or effort into it & it just is another waste of time & honestly what resources could go into a better project.

They should really not bother raising my subscris here? Seems weird to me......

Surprisingly emotional

So good, and deeply funny, passionate, painful & human. I couldn't stop crying after about halfway through... I just can't recommend this enough. It's so personal - yet relatable and the story is extremely important.

Sarah Silverman really blew me away with this
7 October 2018
I have always liked her as a comedian, but I had no idea she was so passionate about so many issues that are so important. This show is witty, fun, but also very real. She's not afraid to speak the truth, and her interviews are fantastic. In fact, the interviews she has done so far have been some of the best interviews I've seen on a TV series.

I honestly think people who don't like this show are probably just republican and don't like the ideas she's expressing. She makes a lot of great points and I think her message is important. She does it while trying to remain funny, too. That's not easy. I'm sure the show seems "soapboxy" to some, but I think she makes a lot of great points, and does so in a non-condescending manner. I think some people are just butthurt about her opinions, really.

Really lame
13 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Extremely formulaic, uninspired trite. There wasn't a single moment I laughed, and honestly the jokes were just tired. The scene where they blow up the dog is totally and completely unnecessary, not to mention stupid. Even the acting in this was bad. It takes a back seat to the terrible writing though. Everything about this movie was just bad. Don't waste your time with this. Watch something better.

This movie is not only offensive, but damaging to those with BPD
20 June 2017
The director & writer should be ashamed of this film. All it does is spread MORE misinformation, misrepresent a horribly excruciating problem, and on top of that, exploits those with it.

This is not even close to an accurate depiction of BPD, and this film will only do one thing- further stigmatize this horrible affliction, making people even more hateful & cruel, which is already a bad enough problem right now.

Their complete misunderstanding of the disorder is nauseating. Don't see this movie. Don't see any movie about a character with BPD, because it has always been done ridiculously poorly & has stigmatized those with it further. To a huge degree.

If you want to actually learn a bit about it, go to Wikipedia, and you will find a very accurate detailing of the disorder, without bias, prejudice or ignorance.

Tried to give it a chance
30 July 2016
So, I saw this had Steve Coogan & I happen to like him, and Netflix thought I'd like it (it suggested I would 4.5 stars like it, in fact) and I took a chance watching it. I watched about 5 episodes before I no longer felt it deserved my attention at all, and turned it off. I kept getting this familiar feeling & couldn't put my finger on it, but it was bothering me for sure. That's when I finally noticed the studio was Showtime. I finally understood the feeling. I realized it was just like the feeling I got from Weeds, Dexter, Californication etc, it's this really obnoxious, kind of -I don't know what to call it- maybe pandering? This "we're so cool, aren't we cool?" kind of vibe. This thing where somehow a good idea for a show is brought to Showtime & then gets ruined completely by them. I kind of see Showtime as a cheap knock-off of HBO. I get the same feeling when someone tries to sell me knock-off Sharpies with a weird name that looks close to it.

I feel like the entire show was just trying way too hard, just like the other ones I mentioned. Instead of actually using the talent of people and writing for themselves, from their own creativity, it just feels like they spent too much time writing to get viewers & writing what they think viewers want them to. Using clichés & all the kinds of stupid attempts to be deep, cool, or funny but looking like tools instead. Showtime are posers. That's the best description. Similar to a kid trying to be punk rock but failing miserably & just looking like an idiot & shopping at Hot Topic, putting studs on things & thinking it makes them a punk.

I don't know how else to explain it, I just know Showtime had something to do with it. I feel like if HBO had picked the project up, this may have been worth watching. Mostly it's just irritating & trying way too hard & is dumbed down. Such a shame really.. what's worse is how many people who I like that fall for this crap. I felt insulted by this garbage. You should too, if you're even somewhat intelligent. What was with all the religious crap, too? That was even more annoying.

Go watch something way better. Seriously. Almost anything HBO makes is worth watching (excluding Sex in The City, True Blood and Entourage, which belong on Showtime), even Ballers, which I really should hate considering my hatred of football & sports, but is actually pretty good & the writing isn't stupid or obviously people trying too hard. The acting is also excellent. Personally was surprised to like it. Anyway if you're after comedy, then try the new HBO show "Vice Principles" or a classic like Mr Show or Dream On. Forget this.

Instant Favorite
4 November 2013
I may be a HUGE Wes Anderson fan, but even if I wasn't, I'd still love this film. It's simply incredible. It's one of my favorite love stories of all time (right next to "Harold & Maude", & "But I'm A Cheerleader" to name a few). It's definitely made it into my top favorites in general of all time for sure, too.

I went into this without any preconceptions or any idea what it was about, as I feel it's the best way to see a film & also to look at it subjectively, I'm able to enjoy films WAY more & get pleasantly surprised by them, & I'm hardly ever let down, especially due to things like trailers or hype by others. I can sincerely say I was absolutely pleasantly surprised, entertained, emotionally involved & just all around in love with it. I was severely disappointed with Darjeeling Limited, as it went absolutely nowhere & even though there were a few minor semi-funny parts, it was mostly just boring. That's not because I didn't get it though, it just wasn't interesting. This was a very redeeming film for me in every way & I think using a very different cast this time proved interesting & fun as well.

The cast is phenomenal, especially the two main stars, who I'd say are some of the best child actors I've seen since maybe the little girl in "The Fall" or Natalie Portman in "The Professional". It was nice to see him use different actors than his normal bunch, though of course (not surprisingly) Bill Murray & (thankfully) Jason Shwartzman had small parts. Edward Norton & Bruce Willis did an absolutely fantastic job & I highly enjoyed seeing them in this. They were also very different roles for them to play, it seems, especially Bruce Willis. Was happily surprised at the star playing a troop leader near the end (don't want to ruin it for you).

This movie has everything good in it, from the awesome music, to the fun, dramatic, interesting story, to the romance, to the fantasy, to the acting & cinematography, to the colors & all around style, the humor, wit & intelligence...and so on. I'd recommend this to anyone. It shouldn't fail to keep one entertained (unless they're an emotionless idiot maybe, then they should stick to their boring, talentless, big budget action flicks with "pretty" faces etc) & the whimsy of it all is worth every moment. You won't be able to predict what's going to happen most of the time, which makes every moment a fun & surprising one. Why this doesn't have at least 9 stars here is beyond me, except it's probably due to the lack of interest people have these days for anything witty, intelligent or actually interesting & full of talent & hard work. I give it a 10, I really do. The only thing that sucked or disappointed me was that it had to end. :(

Watch it, especially if you're in the mood for an original, sweet, fun love story full of awesomeness & adventure!!

Why Even Bother?
19 June 2013
I know we were successful with The Office remake, but I wish people here would realize that doesn't mean any other remake of a good British show here is ever going to be any good again. Not only does there NOT need to be a remake of many of the shows we decide we want to ruin because so many of us Americans are too stupid to enjoy the original, but there SHOULDN'T be any remakes.

Do yourself a favor and watch the original. It's very good. Do yourself another favor and don't watch THIS horrible crap.

We need to stop remaking shows that are perfectly good the way they are already, and if someone likes the idea, to just convince someone to air it here as well. I'm tired of this unbelievable lack of originality that is becoming an epidemic in the media profession when it comes to television and movies. Good writers and directors are cast aside and ignored, and instead, talentless hacks who write whatever the heads want them to write, are hired and they don't have a single fresh idea in their body. Then they hire what they think are a bunch of "pretty" faces (which believe me, they're not.) who can't act their way out of a paper bag, and it makes it even worse. At least in the UK, they still hire REAL people to act and a lot of shows still have integrity. HBO on the other hand is still maintaining a fairly creative and original aura. Follow their lead, people! Just because it seems like the populace wants crappy TV, does not mean they do! Give us something NEW to think about! If you can't come up with a new idea, DON'T STEAL IT FROM THE British!

Honestly, I think that should be somewhat illegal....it seems like it already would be, considering copyright and stuff like that. What really really irks me is that the people here even have the audacity to slap "U.K." on the original and just leave the title the way it is here, when it should be the other way around. It's not "Skins UK" it is "SKINS"! This is "Skins U.S."! And guess what? It SUCKS! Just like every other bad remake. I'm just glad they haven't completely destroyed some of the very best British shows I love yet, and I just hope against all hope that it never happens. In fact, I hope someday soon, they'll realize they aren't ever going to get another "The Office". They were just lucky!

Disturbing and Wonderful
18 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
David Firth creates some of the most disturbing short animated films you'll ever see. Most people know him for Salad Fingers, but he's created a lot of amazing other films, including some very funny ones. This isn't one of them. This video is among the most disturbing things I've ever seen. Firth manages once again to combine absolutely fantastic, entrancing music, disturbing images and a creepy story/message in a bundle of absolute weirdness. He's like the David Lynch of animated shorts, if David Lynch did a bunch of acid and had an affinity for gore.

If you don't want to be disturbed and feel weird, mentally violated, yet intrigued all at the same time, don't watch this, but if you don't mind and you want to see something not only creepy and disturbing, but totally awesome, unique and original, then you should see this. David Firth manages to be completely original and unique, while his art style is unlike anything I've seen. It's simple yet complex, and I love it.

If you like the graphic novels of Jhonen Vasquez and Roman Dirge, and you like movies by David Lynch, you won't be disappointed by this and others Firth has made.

Oh and don't miss Burnt Face Man, it's pretty damned funny and weird. If you don't like creepy, disturbing things, you can still enjoy Burnt Face Man in all of it's ridiculous glory.

Pretty Damned Funny
18 June 2013
This movie was great. I am extremely picky about films, especially comedies, but I sincerely loved this. (still do, and show it to others)

I went in with absolutely no expectations of it. My friend owned a video rental place and we grabbed it off the shelf randomly to watch. I had never heard of it, nor did I know a thing about it. I was thoroughly surprised at how witty, unique, humorous and silly it was. The actors are not all that famous (at least weren't at the time) and I had never seen the star before. Will Arnett was a great addition as well.

Everyone in the movie was great. I thought it was a pretty new story and it didn't recycle a bunch of old jokes I'd seen/heard a million times. It surprised me quite a bit and it wasn't super predictable. Honestly, I think it had almost everything I look for in a comedy really.

My advice is to see it, but don't expect anything at all. Just watch it and let yourself enjoy the ridiculousness of it. The ending was fantastic. This made it into my long list of favorite comedies for sure.
