Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)
decent
this movie is not as bad as a lot of people think. lots of gore, good-looking and likeable characters, and both disturbing and funny in parts. i give it an 8 out of ten. i like it more now than i did when i was younger. well done with many suspenseful moments. the only friday that wasn't good, in my opinion, was jason takes manhatten. i never saw jason x, and don't plan to because i think it looks stupid. just as stupid as imdb telling me i have to have a minimum of ten lines in order to have my comments published.
American Psycho II: All American Girl (2002)
My first girlfriend has a lot in common with her...
.....well, minus the murders. But she was a sociopath with her sights set on being an F.B.I. agent, so I could enjoy this movie from viewing it in that perspective. Fortunately, she's not as bad as "Rachel", but I got the drift. The film has many holes, like how the killings were done, but, for me, it was decent watching for the ex-girlfriend reason. Some people are messed up, but find their way through sheer determination. though that drive may not be proper. It's like William shattner's character said about sociopathic students, "aren't most of them like that?" (not a direct quote). Yeah, but the movie itself is barely passable.
Second String (2002)
this movie stinks
i'm not a bills fan, but this fact did not cloud my judgement. it's just a bad movie. why is it bad? totally unrealistic. first off, the movie started off in the playoffs, that's too short a time. the next thing is referring to the last two games in this movie, the afc championship game and the super bowl. in both games the bills are down 21-0 and win. i know that's not impossible, but here what is: the touchdowns scored by the bills offense. an offensive tackle on a REVERSE throwing a PASS? huh? except for the punt return that won the first game(unlikely in the way that happened too) all the bills scores looked stupid. then there's the old footage of the real nfl throughout the movie. on one clip i saw andre reed, #83, on the field before a game. if you're not going to have the real players in this game, don't show the footage. it ruins the atmosphere of the film. oh, yeah, look at randy moss and terrance shaw of the vikings walk out of the tunnel before the super bowl, then five minutes later see cris cater on the sideline. also, for a super bowl that is played in new orleans, it looked like the h h h metrodome. the one plus was the actual actors acted well. it's just that this movie had too many holes in it. c'mon, the bills and vikings in the super bowl? why, so two super bowl bum win one? please. i also wish they would have mentioned the year this stuper season was taking place in. andre reed hasn't played for the bills since '99, so i'll say '99. doug flutie was ok, gil bellows was cool, jon voight did good(but why is he in this turkey?) but this movie is awful
Wicked Temptations (2002)
monique parent
for it's genre, it's a good movie. monique parent(star of many b movies over the years, now is a little older) plays detective samantha sharpe, investigating the disappearance of a wealthy man's wife. there's a lot of sex scenes in this movie, but only two with monique. she looks very good in this movie. but the character she plays has a certain attitude about her, so her character is believeable. it isn't one of those softcore performances where the character acts a certain way and then sleep with everybody around. if you ever see the movie "dangerous touch" with lou diamond phillips(average flick) monique has a brief cameo as the chick that fools around with kate vernon's character. looks totally different! though that is 8 years ago. anyways, watch this for monique's character, the plot (seriously), and the nudity
Babes 2: Lost in Beaver Creek (2002)
well done adult film
i saw this movie the other night, and it's sex scenes were very aggressive, none oh that slow motion you can find on late night cable. the best sex scenes i've ever seen on soft core. the breasts on the ladies are real. worth a look
The Crying Game (1992)
boy george sang the song"the crying game". perfect
i used to hear the song "the crying game" when i worked nights at the supermarket. i thought it was a good song. i knew it had something to do with the movie "the crying game" because i remember going to the movies and seeing posters of "the crying game" everywhere. for a long time, i had not a clue what "the crying game was about(the movie cover doesn't reveal anything but a woman with a smoking gun. now that i am 25 and can understand the art in projects such as music, movies, and books the song and the movie make sense. i recently saw "the crying game" on bravo. but now it's on starz! tonight at midnight, so it won't but cut now. a week after seeing it on bravo, i watched ace ventura: pet detective and heard "the crying game" song. curious again i went to this web site and noticed that boy george sang this song. if anyone recalls, boy george wrote mostly all his songs about this bandmate and lover johnny when he had the group culture club. songs like"do you really want to hurt me" and "karma calmeleon" have the same tone as "the crying game" song. anyways, i made my point without giving up details of the movie. but the movie, the song, and boy george all tie in nicely
The Slugger's Wife (1985)
a hard movie to figure
this movie isn't either good or bad. it's exceedingly average, a movie to pass the time. i can believe that a skinny guy like o'keefe can hit the home runs he does, and especially because he's in love, but unfortunately neither the baseball story or the love story are completely developed. there's something missing. every incident in this movie happens so fast, then it's gone and changed. evidence? singles hitter= homerun record breaker. just met=married=she's touring. but if anyone has seen this movie they understand that. it's not crap or the toilet, but it maybe the toilet paper. maybe in a way it was ahead of it's time and the o'keefe character was juiced. unless you like the romance in this movie, i wouldn't recommend
Batman Forever (1995)
"hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me"
that above title song by U2 that was played over and over in the summer of '95 is my enduring memory of this movie. that is such a great song by U2. also, "kiss from a rose" by seal is good too. the movie itself is weak. i saw this movie in the summer of '95 at the $1.50 show. when batman got into his batcopter and gave the thumbs up, my friend looked at me and said, "man, this movie s#cks!" i thought his delivery with the comment was perfect, better timing than the whole movie had. a lot of famous faces dressing up to sell halloween costumes to children, i think. the batman franchise has turned into one which picks hollywood's "hot" actors and throws them into an "evil plot" together. i'm sure some people who saw this were "forever" turned off from the batman series. i know it lowered my expectations for the next film(even worse). this film is just cheesy. nothing REALLY wrong with it. but, i remember "the simpsons" episode where bart and lisa's "kidz newz" got cancelled by the "mattell toy company presents" action figure hour. that's how this movie felt. like it was made to sell toys(and tickets). hold me, thrill me, kiss me, ==== me.
Black and White (1994)
it's ok
this film's about a young rookie cop who's female partner, played by gina gershon(mostly remember for her role in "bound" and her fish lips) is a super cop who later is a suspect in a few "left eye" murders. it's alright for a late night viewing. it's your basic crime drama/suspense tale. enough twists to keep you guessing
Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 (1987)
not like his older brother
billy's older bro ricky is a mean, sarcastic killer completely aware of what he did. billy was kinda thrown into his mess, while ricky was perceived as a more bully type. as a whole, this film isn't much good and belongs in the IMDB's top 100 worst films. doesn't have much going for it, but if you seen the first "silent night, deadly night", then you should see this one just to see what billy's younger brother can do(when there aren't just flashbacks to his brother or himself)
Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth (2000)
i liked it better than scary movie
i saw this movie on usa about a year or so ago. i'm surprised it was made, but i'm glad it was. there was a lot of funny scenes in this movie and very worthwhile to catch on cable. i hope i see this movie again soon.
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)
perfect movie for burton and taylor
burton and taylor were a power couple back when this movie was made, so i think it adds an element of truth to this movie. these guys also drank a lot through their lives. but this movie stands on it's own with dry humor and dark subject matter. a dialogue film.
The Ninth Gate (1999)
great film ruined by viewer's expectations
i saw this film when it first came out with a friend of mine. i heard of it, but never really put any thought into it. he told me he wanted to see it because it had really cool special effects. well, we went to see it, and the movie caught me by surprise on how intelligent it is. what i've heard is that there are nine gates of hell and all that jazz, so the plot is plausible. by the end, i understood the film completely. i thought my friend and i would have one of our typical "after movie" conversations. but no, he disliked the film. but i think he thought he'd see more gore or special effects, which i think would have ruined the movie. my dad also saw it and didn't like it, but i simply think in his case the subject matter was over his head. now don't get me wrong, i am not a satanist, but i had a friend who explained some of this subject matter to me because he was once curious. i also didn't base how i feel about this film on what he said. it just helped me make sense of it. that, and the fact that i went in without any idea on how this movie was to be, lend me to really liking it. this is not a movie for everyone. it's an old-school tale filled with old books and older people who are evil at heart. not some special effects gore fest. so, to most viewers, the content may be too far-fetched, dark, or over their heads. or as in the case of my friend, stupid, boring, and not what he thought it was
Black Christmas (1974)
made me think, then go back to fully realize the film
i remain impressed by this film. i've watched horror all my life, and i never knew about this film. i read a comment about "BLACK CHRISTMAS" being better than "SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT". i agree. i love "SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT(PART ONE, PART TWO is just funny), but this film is so well conceived. i'm still confused about who the real killer is. i think i know, but i'm not sure. that in itself separates it from other horror films. i had to go back to the certain scenes that revealed more of the killer.. i'm still not sure. but the fact that it's 28 years old, a horror movie... that's more than what you usually get. my favorite horror movie(by no means is this a "slasher flick") of all time. great piece of work
Summer of Sam (1999)
ONE UGLY 2+ HOURS
THIS MOVIE WAS REALLY so brutal to watch. it was about everyday people, which is nice, but never made any sense. reason: when it doesn't happen to you(i.e. murder by a santanic nut..er, patsie for what really happened) people all of a sudden become worse people. some of the movie made sense, but it didn't deserve two hours of work. what does the son of sam have with orgies? if these asses were so worried about death, why do they have time to screw multiple people. i can understand the paranoia about who is the son of sam, but spike lee's information as a remorter sounds so fake. really, it is. my friend jose ans i were severly bored over this film, and we're not exactly idiots. the only thing worthy in this film is the sex. it gives some good footage on som of sam, but spike is too narrow in how he handles the real story. son of sam was a cult. the horror is that it was exactly that. not one person. not mira sorviro and husband getting it on. can't go wrong with sex, but can go wrong watching a film that should be more than sex and paranoia.i guess spike was too little to know the difference.
