A Fitting End. Wrongs Put Right.
21 March 2023
A very well told story, everything nicely explained, the conclusion made sense. Each character was well fleshed out and developed. The supporting cast were more than token guests. Mary and John did indeed put their love and lives on the line and were rewarded. The Monster Club all contributed to the win, by seasons end, they had all learned and grown. And we were treated to a beautiful coda for Dean's story, way more fitting to such an important Legacy Character, which showed even in death he was unstoppable, that he will always 'Carry On' as the firewall between good and evil, but in doing so he too achieved a lifetime goal, leaving him finally truly free of burdens and at peace. A story of hope that elevated the Supernatural finale to something so much better.

The Last of Us (2023– )
Disappointed
18 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Watched the pilot, it was flat and uninspired, just another show in a long line of shows dealing with an apocalypse. It was all so familiar and not in a good way, it was predictable and the cast don't gell, they seem to be lacking in passion and commitment to the project.

Actors, you gotta inject more passion, you gotta make us care about these people, believe in them.

Hugely disappointed, the was potential there to do something unique and special. Guess it's not always such a good idea to take a popular game and try and make it into a watchable story.

They also seemed to miss a beat, the infection was not only liable to spread between humans, but any animals from the way they set up the transmission, so have they been on tinned rations for twenty years? How is everyone not dead from starvation? At leat TWD covered a possible solution, eventually ( although far to late in the process) The transfer of the fungi was laughable, very much in the style of Evil Dead, but I don't think it was meant to be funny . Special effects were ok otherwise, although a bit over the top.

Why do a shows always have to have the terrible teen girl? Writes you can do better than that, give the poor actress something to work with other than just being a spoiled brat.

Supernatural (2005–2020)
Entertaining Show
20 October 2022
15 years , 327 so only jumping if you have a lot of spare time on your hands.

It has its ups and downs, ignore all the controversy around the external things, just make your own judgement, it sets a high bar which some episodes didn't reach, it made mistakes, it's perceived as a show that would appeal to women because the leads are good looking. They are, but it's not, it's unique in being one of the increasingly few shows that portray relationships between sibling brothers who are straight white men who can and do show they love for each other in the most extreme ways, it brings in an extended cast to help carry the load as time goes on who are likable, some storylines crash and burn , other soar, but there something for everyone to enjoy.

It's well made, fans of cinematography will be able to luxuriate in the amazing lighting, direction, the sets are second to non and Canada officers her own take on America's back roads that whilst not authentic, give an atmospheric feel. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Big Sky (2020–2023)
Well worth watching
20 October 2022
Big Sky caters for those interested in plot, character and shocks. The writers and producers are unafraid of dealing with real world issues in a fictional setting, it's written intelligently and doesn't spoon-feed.

The format changed somewhat in season three to embrace more of an ensemble of regulars, the leads are strong and the side characters don't feel like cardboard cutouts. It's a cop show but with refreshing differences , every character has to stay on their toes because they neve know what lurking around the corner. It has beautiful moments of quiet connection and reflection, it has extended chosen family and the cast have so much chemistry.

It's fun and scary in turns, probably not for those of nervous disposition as it deals with very adult themes.

Walker (2021–2024)
Beautiful location but it's hard work
14 October 2022
Very well shot, great directors and locations. Sadly the show itself didn't match up to the quality of the direction or beauty of the location, it's dry as desert dust and so slow, didn't hold my attention.

The Kids were portrayed as rather unfairly dim. The show was just hard work and morally ambiguous.

The writers didn't spend enough time researching their ideas and the dialogue needed more attention. Too much emphasis was placed on the wrong things, it's a show that couldn't make up its mind what it wanted to be, or what it was trying to achieve.

Some of the casting left a bit to be desired.

Not what I expected, it had potential, but could really have used some polishing.

The Winchesters (2022–2023)
One Hell of a ride
14 October 2022
So much love and care has been poured into this project and shows. It may not be for everyone, but if you hop on board, it's an exuberant ride full of everything from Licorice to relationships to monsters. A real tribute to it's Mothership Show, full of nuance and delights. The cast and crew are passionate, dedicated and have much to offer, worth keeping an open mind. Immerse yourself in the mystery and mayhem.

In terms of cinematic quality it's beautiful, the dialogue has many call backs of note, but it's engaging, inclusive and embracing all viewers, including new audiences, so you can jump right in without needing to know the original show.
