Rasavathi (2024)
A usual crime drama that speaks about marital relationship issues.
The first & only reason to watch this movie is director santhakumar. Coming to the movie, it's a usual crime drama that was presented in the directors unique film language. The whole first half was taken for the set up and the major plot of the movie reveals in the starting of the second half. Though the first half was slow in setting up characters and story, it wasn't boring. But the second half, where the major plot is revealed engages us better. But, it gives a feel of unsatisfactory, as the first half has built a huge curiosity over the audience. Coming to performances, Sujith who plays the antagonist role delivered a stunning performance as a bad cop with childhood trauma. But his character with good potential had been underused. Sujith's parasu is the main character of the story with more depth than the hero Arjun dass's character. Arjun dass who played the role of Sadhasiva Pandian, a sidhdha doctor is the typical protagonist of santhakumar movies with some past pains and a silent nature. His performance was neither great not worse. Reshma venkat's "Chandra" was good enough but Tanya ravichandran's "Surya" was an usual Tamil cinema heroine. Technically this movie was good. Cinematography and framings were excellent in many scenes, but the grains in some sequences irritates. Thaman Background score was a pillar of the movie, but the songs weren't good. Santhakumar's writting had been led down, compared to his previous works. Though the dialogues were good, but it was too preachy in many scenes. Villain's role was written well but haven't used well. On a whole, it's a one time watchable crime drama with a slow narration & some major flaws.
Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024)
Most underwhelming Kungfu Panda movie ever...
It's been 8 years since the last kungfu panda movie released and why they should give the next if they want to tell a story like this... This is easily the most weakly written and the most underwhelming Kungfu panda movie ever. Each and every positives and the past trilogy lacked here... Kungfu panda is known for its villains with depth writting, but this movie has the weakest written villain ever. Comedies were funny at some times and forced in most of the times. The main drawback is under playing shifu and just making dissapear the furious 5. Each and every new character introduced were weakly written, except Zhen who had a good arc. The major twist of the movie is very usual and sometimes predictable. The sub-plots of both the po's father is somewhat engaging. Being the least expensive Kung-fu panda movie, the visuals are stunning and the split screens and the colours and mind blowing. But, had a great downfall in writting. Tai lung still need a redemption. On a whole, this is a Kungfu Panda movie that could have been not made.
Past Lives (2023)
Beautiful romantic drama..!
Wow, what a beautiful romantic movie with more personal connects. The human relations and the emotions were fantabulous. I loved the way the writer(s) designed those 3 major characters. I've forgotten the main protagonist's name but still remember him in my hearts. The first 50 minutes of the movie was good with those video call scenes between the hero and na young. But the movie turned its path when na young and Arthur revealed they're married. And the Beauty begins when the hero and na young meet after 24 years. That whole sequence of conversation was a cinematic masterpiece to me. But the movie stood 10 time higher in my hearts, when the scene between na young and Arthur begins where Arthur somewhat feels insecured about the hero and starts to speak hopelessly. And the last 30 minutes were amazing where hero and Na young speaks about their relationship and their pasts, manifestations, regrets, fantasies and many more while Arthur sits alone beside them. I loved the writting where the whole empathy was turned from hero Arthur in just one scene and make us feel to send the hero off town asap. On a whole, it's a great movie watching experience to me and I never gonna forget this masterpiece...
Blue Star (2024)
A social-concerned sports drama with some flaws..!
"Blue star" is a usual cricket based drama but seems different by its staging, set-up and conflicts. The first half of the movie is is very engaging with intersting conflicts between 2 local teams. The interval block was good enough, but the second turns out to be a usual cricket drama where the protagonist's team joins a tournament and competing against the ultimate antagonist in the finals. Ashok Selvan has been the main pillar of the movie. His performance was too good. Shanthanu gave a good performance for the character with some flaws in writing. Bhagavan perumal and prithvi who played the characters of Immanuel and Sam gave interesting and suprise performances. Govindh vasantha's 1 song was good and the background score was very good. Cinematography was not great but good enough. Positives are the performances of lead actors, character conflicts in the first half/the entire first half and mainly the dialogues. Negatives are the second half where there is no seriousness in the games after the first match and started to feel repetitive, and the Romance portions were started to feel unwanted after some time. 2nd half fails to speak the politics effectively that have been spoken in first half. On a whole, this a good movie with some flaws.
Mahanadhi (1994)
A heart wrenching crime drama
Mahanadhi is a highly disturbing dark crime drama that showcases a struggles of a man with 2 children after being scammed by a cheater. The movie starts building a pressure on the audience from 40th minute of the movie. The background score done by ilayaraaja makes the audience emote even better. Writing of Kamal Hassan is the biggest plus of the movie. Kamal Hassan's acting is the soul of the entire movie. This movie moved a bigger position during the scene that happens in a prostitution area. Writing was at its peak. On a whole, though I had some disagreements with the movie, I loved it for its close to reality presentation.
Kaathal - The Core (2023)
A much needed movie for the society..!
I think this might be the first movie to take the homosexuality as a primary conflict. I loved the movie. Writing was very great in many aspects. I genuinely loved the way they potrayed the chemistry (or whatever it is) between the characters. Especially between Mathew and thankan. There is only 1 or 2 scenes where they both are in a single frame. Thankan's love and longing for Mathew says it all. Loved the performance of thankan in the interval sequence. Jyothika's omana character being as a unusual wife characters of indian cinema, wanting divorce for her husband's well living. Seriously loved the scene where Mathew and his father communicates after a long period of time. The very first time Mathew opens up and cries to his father. Dialogues were good enough. Cinematography was like a painting in each frame. Both Songs and background music are composed well to provoke the emotions of the audience. I liked all the court sequences and facts the reveal about homosexuality in India. Huge respect for Mammootty for choosing, acting and producing a film like this. It's a great gesture to act as a homosexual person a.k.a gay for an experienced actor like Mammootty. Joe Baby made an another hard statement following his previous work "The Great Indian Kitchen". I think this movie is a much needed one for this society because current generation think any genders other than Male and female are not natural and they are just made up by people because of their desire. It is the responsibility of some educated people to educate them about sexual orientation. Cinema being a powerful medium is meant to educate about this community rather than objectifying and mocking them. The is no notable negatives in this movie, but something in this movie made me feel not complete satisfactory.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
The best emotional sci-fi movie I've ever seen
I'm not exaggerating but this is the best sci-fi drama I've ever seen. I didn't understand the story here and there, but I completely understood the emotion of the film. Just loved the character Joe/K posted by Ryan Gosling. Joi by ana de armas stays forever in my mind. Each and every charcters stood in my mind including the character played by Battista in the beginning. Dialogues were the best of this film. Many dialogues stood hardly in my mind. My favourite is the last 10 minutes of the movie where Joe/K and Decker (I may be wrong in the name) communicates and Joe just lies on the steps with smile. I can't explain many with words. Only thing I could say is it is easily one of the finest films I've ever seen.
Joe (2023)
A one-time watchable Romantic entertainer
Joe is a kind of coming of age romantic movie with some flaws. The very first scene that happens during Joe's school time makes the audience puzzled, and somewhat it is predictable that this scene gonna connect to the climax. The first half of the movie moves well as the college and graduation life of Joe whereas, the second half moves as the marriage life of Joe. First half engages as a rom-com with very less unwanted scenes. But the second half travels without any point. Positives of the movies are those performances by the lead actors and the screenplay which doesn't make us feel bored in any of the scenes. Cinematography gives even more chillness to the movie. Music are decent enough in both Songs and BG. That culturals songs could have been avoided. Negatives of the movies are the characters that are introduced in the second half without any writing depth, including the second heroine Shruthi's character. The characters pain and past doesn't make us feel for her. Only the watchman character connects, but at what cost??? Even the major lose that happens to the protagonist in the middle of the movie doesn't impacts hard to the audience. This movie is a feel good movie but the lethargic writting makes it an average one. Writing could have been even better.
12th Fail (2023)
Education is the only weapon to succeed..!
I loved the movie to it's core. Especially the second half from the scene where that senior asks Manoj to write 200 words in 8m 20 seconds. The initial first half was very engaging, but the second half and the last 40 mins just swept me off. What a writing. The interview scene stands upon everything. Brilliant questions and the answers by manoj, mind blown. Shraddha is the girl whom every passionate man Long for. Her letter to Manoj just broke every fear of losing or defeat that made Manoj feel nervous/anxious. The way Gauri bhaiya just stood by manoj is the lesson I've learnt. "IF U CAN'T, HELP PEOPLE WHO CAN". Naval represented the flaws in every human being, but his redemption was heart whelming. I didn't mentioned any actors name who played the character, I've just mentioned the characters. That's what those actors doneto this movie. But I just want to give a bow to Vikrant Massey who played Manoj kumar Sharma, man who just rocked. Vidhu Vinod Chopra sir... I haven't watched any of ur films. But this one should your Greatest of all time. There is no technical or writing flaws to be mentioned. This is a kind of movie everyone should watch. Just gave a gentle reminder: EDUCATION IS THE ONLY WEAPON TO SUCCEED..!!!
Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye (2023)
This is one of those movies which turns out to be a therapy
Only few movies teaches you great life lessons and makes you feel like attending a therapy. This is that kind of a movie for me. Another well written Masterpiece by the great Raj B Shetty. The biggest power of this movie is those hard-hitting dialogues and those metaphors used each and every character stays in our mind, feels personal and make us feel bad for them. And the duration too make us feel for th film. Siri Ravikumar done a fabulous job as the main lead. Raj B Shetty's character comes for a limited time on screen but has an impact through the movie. All the technical aspects were at the point of saying no faults. A must watch movie to everyone.
Chithha (2023)
A heart whelming emotional thriller...!
Kudos to the director Mr. S. U. Arun Kumar, who previously proved himself in pannaiyarum padminiyum and sethupathi. Sindhubath was a disaster but it's a true comeback. Well written screenplay with many pressure builder scenes and beautiful character arcs. Technically it's a well made film. Especially Background score by chandrasekhar and stunning visuals by Balaji subramanyam. Performance by every actors was top notch, special note to those girls who played sundari and ponni respectively. The way Sidharth carried the film and this character was top notch. On a whole, I liked the way this movie was made as an emotional thirller. I wish the director would continue making films that trigger human emotions.
Pannaiyarum Padminiyum (2014)
Heart whelming, satisfying, emotional rollercoaster
It is a story between an land lord, his son like servent and a vintage premier padmini car. There is no flaws or lags found in the 2h 27m film. Such an underrated gem 💎. There are many predominant characters but none of the characters doesn't feel useless or waste of time to the story. It is one of the few films which potrayed the romance of a old couple beautifully. Music is upto the mark. Cinematography, editing and screenplay just mind blowing. Kudos to the director who delivered such a beautiful story which unfolds in a village, no one would believe this is the director's debut film. I've just watched the movie 8 years after the release. It's not late to appreciate a masterpiece.
Maamannan (2023)
An Interesting political drama by Mari Selvaraj
Movie starts as a typical Mari Selvaraj film with references to his ideology. Following a massive interval block, movie turns out to be a usual political drama in 2nd half. Vadivelu and Fahadh Fasil carries the whole movie. Obviously it's the carrier best performance by Udayanithi, Keerthy does what her character demands better. AR Rahman does a great work in background music but songs are not that impressive. This movie heavily reminds us of aayudha ezhuthu, Sarkar and the director's previous film karnan in some sequences. My kind request is not to expect a karnan or pariyerum perumal in this film, it's a completely different film. On a whole, it's an intersting political drama by Mari Selvaraj in his own film style.
