Enchanted April (1991)
See the play, it's better than the film.
After being involved in the theatrical version i find the film version disjointed and boring. Lines said by one character in the play are said by a different character in the film and some characters have entirely different names. There also seems to me an excessive amount of editing between locations. (There is even more jumping around between London scenes than the play.) Also the scene where Mellersh is eating near the beginning of the film i find repulsive and unnecessary. Once the action moves to Italy the film improves, but not enough to save it ultimately. Jim Broadbent, although an actor i enjoy watching, was miscast in this outing.
War of the Worlds (2005)
Proof Tom Cruise is a celebrity NOT an actor
This has got to be the worst film of the year. Tom Cruise proved yet again that he can't act. I felt no compassion towards his character or any of the others for that matter. H.G. Wells would be spinning in his grave. Whoever was in charge of this train crash of a film should be VERY embarrassed. There was nothing remotely engaging about this waste of time, (unless you want to include the end credits.) There were so many basic narrative flaws in this 'film' i was astounded. I saw the film 2 days before writing this and I'm still annoyed at how Hollywood ruined -yet again- another classic piece of literature. Stick to the Jeff Wayne Musical version.
