Road House (2024)
It was ok.... and then Connor McGregor waddled in naked like he really needed a poo. I kid you not!
Overall a watchable feel good film that I was able to spend my Friday night watching. Jake was good and like most action films carried the rest of the case. Arturo Castro was a stand out and I'd have loved him to have been on screen more.
I'm just old enough to know the original. It's a classic. I doubt this remake will be remembered in 30 years time like the OG. It just dosnt have the magic that the first film had.
Unless of course it's remembered for the terrible reminder that acting in films should be done by those that can actually act!
About 50min in a naked McGregor waddles naked down a street somewhere in Italy. And by waddle I mean he walks like he is either very pregnant or he really needs a poo, but isn't sure he will find the toilet he is searching for. Like really, when you see it, you will get it.
I'm not bothered by his accent, like other reviews. I could understand him fine. BUT THE MAN CAN NOT ACT! Sometimes it's best to switch to what you know, like UFC!
Ten Percent (2022)
Just as good as the French original, which was also brilliant.
I watched the French original and really enjoyed it. Once I realised this was a remake I dived in and watched in one go.
While it's the same show, both stand apart and work without riding on the other.
I really liked the way well known actors came into the show playing themselves, in not always the best light. I'm not sure if taking a risk on a show like this was risky for them, but it really worked.
Despite knowing who would die in the beginning, I felt sad knowing that such an enjoyable character would leave. I loved that the diversity of characters worked easily together and that a woman likely in her 70s was still top of her game. Despite the self serving nature of the entertainment industry, I felt there were touching moments of compassion and caring towards people who would have otherwise been seen as just a means to an end.
I am hopeful for a second series, such an enjoyable show.

Surprisingly a good watch and and brilliantly made.
I expected this to be just another cheesy outback drama like the tourist. Don't get me wrong, the tourist was watchable but also forgettable. Season 2 was Meh!. This one I found myself really enjoying and stayed up way past my bedtime on a "school night" before dragging myself away and then finished it off the next day. I won't lie, I expected this to be something I'd watch between better options. I'm pleasantly surprised.
I picked up on the Last Stop Larrimah storyline pretty quick, which I enjoyed seeing the characters based on real life people and elements woven in. All very Aussie but have a hidden side that makes you wonder about why they moved to a town so remote and what they were really getting away from. Growing up in a country town, I get how small communities can be. But where most show's will add in stereotype characters and let the star shine, this show gave depth to each character and developed a story for each. This was one of the few shows where the characters were not so predictable. It's great to enjoy the wider cast rather than be annoyed by them.
Loved the film making. Trent O'Donnell is becoming one of those directors who is popping up everywhere. Even the US version of Ghosts!!!! The other people behind this show are also great and have made shows I've enjoyed. I loved that the actors were people who have worked with this crew before. You can see that they are bringing talent with them and it makes for amazing TV.
Strife (2023)
I'm still waiting for this to be good!
Asher Keddie is one of Australia's best actresses and I have always enjoyed her work. Bit even she can't save this form being awkward to watch. Her character is supposed to be a flawed modern woman. But her character is more unlikeable than simply flawed. How did this woman build a media empire when she can't do the most simplest task without screwing it up and then constantly lying and gaslighting the people around her. I feel like the one angle they had was taken too far and made the show unlikable overall. And this is coming from a fan of Mia Freedman and Mumamia, who the story is based on. I wanted this to be a good watch, but I can't find anything I liked about it.
Asteroid City (2023)
Visually stunning! Packed with amazing actors, but the story is lacking.
I left the cinema feeling like I had watched a masterpiece on a visual sense, but I wasn't sure exactly what I had watched, storywise. The story was confusing at times as it jumped between the play and the making of. The concept was great but the script was really lacking.
There were so many great actors in this film and they carried the film well with the script they had.
Besides the script the film was really well made and I loved the old Hollywood style and colours used to bring the film to life. Visually this film was fun and a treat. Not the best of Wes Anderson, but worth watching all the same.
Party Down (2009)
Perfection after 15 years!
I loved this show when the first two series aired. It was funny edgy amd relatable. I had a wierd thing for Adam Scott (Still do) and thought Lizzy Caplan was awesome. This was the show of my early adulthood
Generally, trying to recreate a show, risks crapping on the original work. BUT.... Series 3 is perfection.
Its authentic to the original series 1 and 2, without trying too hard to be cool (except Kyle, but thats just him) the young characters bring in the modern youth and work well against the older original caracters, rather than at their expence, which often happens. Both generations had room to shine and show their worth.
I think it speaks vollumes that the main cast all (almost) came back in some capasity to revise their characters.
The only downfall is only 6 eps, more please!!!!!!
1923 (2022)
I cant wait for them to meet the other nephew.
The war is getting going and its getting exciting. Just wait until they meet the nephew!!! Helen Mirren is at her best in this role. Carra and Jacobs relationship is my goal for my older age. They are a force and stronger together and they know it. I love that Jacob, with all his strength is man enough to know who he married and just who the boss is. Spencer and Alex are so fun and the chemistry is electric. They are the Carra and Jacob of the future. Their return to Yellowstone is going to be fun. Unfortunately we have to wait a month to find out. Im feeling a bit upset about that. Lucky they gave us more Sheridan gold in Mayor of Kingstown to tide us over. But it will be a hard wait regardless.
Mayor of Kingstown (2021)
One of the best shows on TV!
How does Taylor Sheridan pour out all of these good shows while maintaining the quality?
I love this show. Its gritty, action packed and adictive. Hard to watch at times, but the hard parts are important to the characters arc and it makes the good so much sweeter.
The relationship between Mike and Iris is lovely and the lack of sexual interaction makes their relationship so much more intimate, yet innocent.
This show shows us the good and bad of society and a system set against so many. It shows how those in power are often the ones who should be behind bars and that there are good and bad in all parts of society. I am just starting season 2 now. Im so excited for this season.
Fire Country (2022)
Over the top and badly written.
Oh no! This is just bad! Admittedly my fire fighting experience comes from an Australian background, but this isn't remotely realistic. Fire burns just the same everywhere else, but not in this shpw! I mean fire dosnt burn out of control on a watered green lawn (thats where Id be running to) and at a pool with no water. Burning people dont come out of a landscape of patchy fire unless they are too stupid to walk around the burning bits and that lightning storm in ep 2... Lol. The writting is just cringeworthy and overall this show is pretty bad. I have seen good fire fighting themed productions from both the USA and down under. This one is not one of them!
