Black Christmas (2019)
Didn't know it was maybe a remake
I went into this movie not knowing it had predecessors of the same name. I know, a bit bad on my part. That being said, I also had no expectations or bar for it to reach. As a woman who has sat in an interview and listened to a white man tell me he was "only interviewing me because he was required to and that women should remain homemakers"....I get the battle for equality. However this movie was atrocious. It does nothing to empower women in its plotless script and everything to have us take 20 steps backwards. The attack on men was so over-bearing it was sickening. I don't need to beat men down to make them pay in order for me to be a strong independent and worthy woman. The lead female's acting wasn't very good either. She was supposed to be learning to fight after a traumatic event. Instead she was weak, inaudible, and cried a lot. Not a heroine. In the end their act to lock their attackers in a room made them stoop to the level of their attackers rather than overcome anything.
Tremors (2018)
Pleeeeeease!
The first movie was fantastic with the second being pretty great also. I'd really love for this to be made! Come on with Netflix and Hulu and Prime and Shudder surely somewhere they can get it picked up. Or do a Kickstarter and let me back it to at least own it on dvd!!!! I really want this show!
Critters Attack! (2019)
Way to use those hand puppets!
This follow up is just sad. The original Critters made back in the 80's had better effects than this one. I thought the storyline was ok or just under ok. The acting of some was tolerable but the others were not very good. It was like a socially awkward experiment...as if the actors were uncomfortable with actually acting.
Jurassic Galaxy (2018)
I have watched many crappy movies but
I have purposefully watched many terrible movies on a crappy movie night. I have found some good movies I wouldn't have otherwise watched and worried about the loss of brain cells other movies have taken. This one has to be the most epic crappy movie I have ever seen.
These crashed crew members who apparently never met in their long voyage spaceship have crashed on a planet that is only populated by dinosaurs. One minute you see heinous computer graphics of mountains and forests but the survivors are traipsing about in dry desert brush. They make the environment seem like it's summer and hot yet it was clearly filmed in late fall when no leaves were left on the vegetation with the exception of carefully placed palms. So on a planet where no other life forms but dinosaurs apparently exist they walk on gravel roads and pass trees that have graffiti on them. They never even ask are there other humans here for these roads to exist. Dinosaurs attack some survivors and kill them but apparently humans aren't on the menu as all victims are left intact and uneaten.
Not only is the plot more holes than story, but these actors don't make believable astronauts or even crash survivors. The best part of the movie is Pal and it's just a small orb that is a jack of all trades. I guess in this movies' case, you get what you pay for. I feel like this was someone's dream and since no production companies would pick it up they decided to film it themselves.
The Golden Compass (2007)
descent enough
I waited to watch this movie until it was released on DVD. I was sadly disappointed. However, the movie was good. I felt that with all the hype of it being the next big trilogy, it was a let down. They left then ending open so that another could be created to follow the trilogy of books, but now there's news that they might not be making it. I felt that my time spent watching it and getting intrigued by it was a complete waste at that point. I felt that the beginning started off descent, but then they just kept ramming details that you need to know right after another without really elaborating or allowing for enough time to lapse between them to be ready for the next wave of information. After watching this very well graphicized movie, I was still tired from trying to take in all the information. You get in about 1 minute the history of the little girl and all this other history follows right after it. By the time you really start to understand what is happening, the movie has ended and you're left with questions that may or may not get answered in the movies. So, I guess for the author of the books this can be good for sales, but I like to watch and so does most of the general public. I do recommend this film for children who like a movie with animals and some humor, but without the sequels I feel this movie was a waste otherwise.
10,000 BC (2008)
Amazing Graphics
This movie has amazing graphics. I have heard others give it a bad review because of lack of information or a bad story line. This movies title is 10,000 BC and so the story line won't be filled with all kinds of modern things that shallow audiences like. If one likes to be creative and see things in their imagination come to life on screen then this is the movie for them. If you are looking for blood and guts and gore then go watch one of the hundreds that come out daily and are a waist of talent and time. This movies isn't a waste nor is it lame as some might suggest.
Most also say that it is not historically correct when it comes to the use of the mammoths. However, there have been recent discoveries of ancient mammoth bones on smaller islands. The mammoth couldn't have existed on just the island or we wouldn't have mammoth bones on other continents. This leaves the theory open that ancient civilizations had the capacity and ability to domesticate needed animals to assist them with their travels, labors, and rituals. So, their ideas are not well researched nor should have any credit.
Last I noticed you were supposed to be going to the movies to have fun and let your imagination flow. I don't go with textbooks and other items to discredit films but rather to embrace how a director and creator choose to express their vision.
