Percy Jackson and the Olympians: We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium (2023)
Great episode!
I really loved the first 2 episodes but this one blows the first 2 out of the water.
The pacing is much much better here. We actually get to spend some time with the trio and see them interact more which strengthens their bond.
We also see Medusa which is much more interesting than she was in the books with a more nuanced interpretation that's a really nice change.
The chemistry between the actors is so so good and their characters are just perfectly written. I can't wait to see more of them.
I can only see this show getting better and better as the episodes air and I hope we get renewed until they finish the books.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
I really liked it.
First I would like to say that I haven't read the books so this review is based solely on the show. (I did get spoiled on a couple things in a later book though)
This show is really charming and fun. The characters are well written, the story is intriguing and it hooked me straight away.
I love the tone and feeling of the show. It feels really great and it's very easy to just sit down and watch.
I also really love the storyline with Percy being a halfblood. I've never been into Greek mythology but this show has surprised me with how much I like it.
The pacing is perfect for me and I love seeing them do camp stuff.
I especially love the main trio of the show. I haven't seen much of them all together but I can already tell it's going to be great.
I'm so excited for the rest of the season and I hope it gets renewed soon.
Futurama: All the Way Down (2023)
Up there with the classics!
This is not only the best episode in the season but I would argue that it's up with some of the best episodes. It's not up to the level of The Late Phillip J Fry but it's also higher than an average fox episode.
The writing was amazing, not surprising since David X Cohen wrote it. He honestly needs to write more episodes, he gets the world and characters more than anyone else. It was funny and it had an amazing story.
The plot of the episode was just classic Futurama. Taking the theory of our world being a simulation and creating a story out of it is what Futurama excels at. Please do more Sci-Fi stories!
I can't wait for the next season! I'm sad I will have to wait a while but hopefully this episode is a good indication of what to expect!
Futurama: The Prince and the Product (2023)
Good Anthology!
I only liked 2 of the anthology episodes from the comedy central era and I liked both anthologies from the fox era but I really enjoyed this one. Not as much as the fox ones but it fits in with the good comedy central anthologies.
It was nice seeing the crew be reimagined as 3 different types of toys. I found it very creative and fun.
The A story with the crew going on a delivery to a new planet was fun but I will say the framing device for having the anthology is kind of clumsy but it was still fun so I'll allow it
I really hope you give it a fair chance but I can already tell people won't like it because it's an anthology.
Futurama: Zapp Gets Canceled (2023)
Don't let the title fool you, this was actually a great episode!
I know most people were dreading this episode and probably even moreso after the covid episode but this episode was the complete opposite from the covid episode. It was funny, it didnt focus too much on cancel culture and we went on an adventure to a new planet with a new society. This is the kind of stuff i hope to see more of next season.
Fry and Leela just being an established couple and having them be cute around each other is just so nice to see. I love how they continue to do it even when their relationship isnt part of the story.
The only "bad" one is the covid episode and thankfully we got that out of the way. Now i hope more episodes are this creative and fun.
Overall im happy with this season even if the beginning had some issues, i think they finally found their groove (minus the covid episode).
Futurama: I Know What You Did Next Xmas (2023)
2 GREAT episodes in a row!!
Well I feel like they finally found their footing. These last 2 episodes were the best in the season. This episode is my favorite with episode 5 being my second favorite.
The plot is so wacky and fun. I loved seeing a Zoidberg and Bender centric episode. We don't see them interact that much and they have alot of chemistry. I would love to see more of them in future episodes.
I love how this episode is about time travel. Bring 2 things I love, time travel and Christmas specials. There are some relevations in this episode that I think are fun.
It was cute seeing fry be able to go the professor and cubert and also leelas family for Xmas. It was sweet seeing Amy's kids again and I love how everybody is having fun. It's a silly fun episode and I'm loving every second.
Also really nice tribute to Coolio at the end.
Overall this episode is amazing, there's not much that I could say i didn't like because it was genuinely really good.
Futurama: Related to Items You've Viewed (2023)
They FINALLY found their footing.
I've enjoyed the previous 4 episodes but most of them had a ton of problems. This episode feels like they are finally on track to their old selves. The characters were all in character, the main trio were the main focus this episode, and we get a nice status quo change with Leela moving in with Fry and Bender.
I love how they handled Fry and Leela this episode, they had a small fight in the middle but then 5 seconds later they immediately made up and kissed. It feels like a very natural and healthy relationship. I'm excited to see how it develops.
I like how they are incorporating the eye phones in these new episodes, it really makes the continuity stronger and make the killer app episode better in retrospect. Them just casually using it in any episode whenever they need something is just great.
I love the topical aspect of this episode, it was talking about Amazon as Momazon where Mom is in control of everything. The way they handled the jokes and storyline felt very natural and fit very easily in the already established lore and canon of the show.
This episode was overall very well written and a taste of what we could be getting in the future.
Even if you don't like these episodes I encourage you to at least try every episode instead of ignoring them. You never know when they pull out a secret masterpiece like "The Late Phillip J. Fry".
Futurama: How the West Was 1010001 (2023)
Thank you for not being terrible.
They did it. I can't believe they did it. They finally made a crypto episode that's actually fun and creative instead of boring and lazy.
I was a little worried about the topical episodes this season but this one was very well done. Crypto didn't seem on the nose or outdated like the CC era episodes sometimes felt. This time being way more creative and actually doing some nice worldbuilding by visiting a completely new place we've never been to before. We go somewhere that emulates the wild west and it's just so beautiful and a nice change of scenery.
The crypto seems to something you actually have to mine and collect before you turn it into digital money which I really like. They didn't take the lazy route and just do the same old crypto jokes.
There were actually a lot of other storylines as well that the crypto part of the story didn't really feel overdone. It's in the background and used to progress the story instead of being the story. There was even a nice little twist with the crypto later in the episode.
If this episode is any indication to how they will be treating the topical episodes then I'm not nearly as worried anymore. They actually feel fun and not in your face. This episode will still stand if you knew absolutely nothing about crypto or Bitcoin and that's why I think it will be timeless.
Overall a really great episode and the best so far. Im really happy Futurama is back because this was so good.
Futurama: Children of a Lesser Bog (2023)
Strong second episode
I really enjoyed this episode and I think the season will end up being really good. I do have a couple issues though.
For the positives I think it was pretty funny. There's a lot of gags in this episode that made me laugh.
The emotional beats with Amy and her kids were really good.
I love how they brought back this plotpoint from the original and actually went through with it. Amy kept the kids so I'm assuming they will make appearances in future episodes. (I hope so anyways)
I like how they brought back the eye phones because it strengths the continuity.
Scruffy gets around.
Now for the negatives. I feel like Leela was a bit out of character. She doesn't remember anything that happened in the original episode and then she thinks she was drunk. She then gets drunk while at work.
Zapp felt more tame compared to what he normally is.
Fry and bender was basically non existent in this episode. I'm noticing a pattern of fry being completely sidelined and that is making me worried but I trust the writers to make up for it later.
That's basically my only issues with it.
Overall the episode was good and it's still going through the growing pains of being back. I'm sure we will get back to normal soon enough.
Futurama: The Impossible Stream (2023)
AVENGED
This is the perfect reintroduction back into the series. There is a lot of meta humor about them being cancelled and brought back. This is probably the most meta episode in the series but that's not a bad thing. It feels like the show was kicking and screaming it's way back on screen.
The episode starts immediately after the last episode "Meanwhile" and it's a very smooth transition. We see what happens right after time unfreezes and then the episode starts with them being in the year 3023.
This episode feels like a celebration of coming back, after 10 long years, this show deserves a big meta episode about coming back. It has some fan service but that's what you should do as soon as you come back to really thank the fans for allowing them to keep coming back.
The humor is really good. It feels like normal Futurama which is a very good thing. The characters all act like you remember. It just feels like it's a new episode of Futurama, it's not a cheap knockoff, it's actually just more Futurama. That's what I wanted and I'm so glad they delivered.
This was a great episode and you should give it a watch. If you for some reason don't like this episode, stick around for more of the season, I promise there are episodes for everybody this season.
Thank you Futurama for coming back and being just as good as before.
The Flash: Wednesday Ever After (2023)
It was actually good???
I loved the first five seasons, especially seasons 1 to 3, and the first part of season 6. However, after that, the show became horribly inconsistent. In my opinion, season 7 was absolutely terrible (I apologize if you liked it). Season 8 was enjoyable, but not as good as the first five seasons. This episode was almost perfect. Barry and Iris got to shine together and had real moments. Iris had a real issue that didn't feel forced, and it was very natural. The writing was of higher quality than it has been in years. I love the new cinematic look of the episode with the new camera setup. I hope the season continues to be this strong. If it does, then we could actually end on a high note. Let's make this the best season of "The Flash" since season 3! I do miss Harry and Cisco, and I don't have strong feelings towards Chester or Allegra, I'm just neutral.
Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023)
I was trying to hate the Movie but damnit. It won me over.
I went into this with no expectations, not even really wanting to watch it but I decided to anyways just to see what happens but it won me over. I like Eli as a character, I love how Allison came back and now has a future with Scott. (I've always shipped them) but there is one thing I do not like. I don't like how Lydia broke up with Stiles. I really liked them together. The end of the movie kind of felt like an ending of an episode with a cliffhanger and this movie felt very much like a teen wolf episode but just 3 times longer and some F-Bombs which I actually really liked. I assume it ended the way it did because they are planning a trilogy. If this movie does well then they will make 2 more movies. The best thing about this is, if there's a second movie, Stiles could come back. Dylan did say he was trying to make it work but the movie was just going too fast, he also said In another interview that he wouldn't be opposed to coming back sometime in the future so I hope Stiles gets locked in for the second. Overall I really liked this movie when I was trying not to like it but about 20-30 minutes into the movie I started feeling those teen wolf feelings I had when I loved the original.
I give it an 8/10. It's not perfect but it was a great love letter to the tv series and it's perfect for revisiting the world and characters. If you only watch for Dylan O'Brien then I'm afraid you probably won't like it but if you like the entire show and all the characters, you will probably enjoy this too.
