The Dictator (2012)
Some genuine comedy hidden behind a thick unoriginal premise
The Dictator, from the outside, looks like an original tale of the bad guy doing what he does best, being bad. But the actual product is nothing more than the antiquated story of guy falls for girl.
The writing does have it's high and there are more than a few good chuckles in this movie thanks to some great script writing, but the story is so terribly overdone, so greatly played out that it takes what could have been a fantastic comedic tale of the guy everyone loves to hate and turned it into another crappy, run of the mill flick that's unoriginal and uninspiring in every which way possible.
The Dictator could have been great, it could have been good, but with Ali G, Bruno and Borat already under his belt SBC could have done so much better.
Legion (2010)
Awful, just plain awful
Judging from the trailer this movie was supposed to be a whole lot of action while the talking takes a backseat, unfortunately the 30 second trailer contained all the action you are going to see over 100 minutes of the full movie.
The acting was entirely melodramatic while the script was TV level. Nothing was believable, far too often you found yourself watching these characters talk to each other, explaining their own background while you sit there realizing that you don't care at all. The character development was done so obviously that it made everything feel cheap.
Avoid this movie at all cost's, you'll have more fun reading a Bible than you would watching Legion.
The Believer (2001)
Disappointing and clichéd
I found this movie, brain numbing more then anything else.
The director tries to portray Gosling as an intelligent underachiever with the wrong mindset, which is very hard to believe when they have Gosling slur out lines that you would think to hear on an Episode of "South Park", and to believe that he could have intelligent people listen and believe what he's saying is outrageous.
The supporting cast is also terrible, i really cant comment much on them other then saying that most of them would have been best suited in daytime TV dramas.
The action scenes suffer from the same disease, not believable, with fight scenes more at home in a B class movie.
I wouldn't recommend seeing this movie if you wanted to see something with depth and intelligence.
