Justice League: Warworld (2023)
DC fans need to widen their horizons
Ok, DC fans, you need to see a bigger picture here. Every time you run into a DC anime that isn't following the same old boring style, you rate it poorly and whine about whatever. That's nothing but being childish, whiney, and narrowminded. Warworld was a breath of fresh air, along with The Doom That Came to Gotham, Soul of the Dragon, the latest Catwoman, Injustice, Batman Gotham Knight, and Green Lantern: Beware My Power. I like that these cartoons are taking a different approach and deal with more obscure topics. The darker they get, the more I like it. I don't get what's there not to like about Warworld. You have several intertwined stories involving favorite DC characters. Though they don't seem connected at first, it all comes down in the end and fuses into a huge plot. I rate this 8/10. Hope they do more of these cartoons. Overall, it's an excellent movie with awesome ending and thoughtful story lines.
Vinland Saga (2019)
What the hell happened to season 2?
So, here we are, looking at one of the best anime ever made...at least until season two. Why they decided to go in this direction is beyond me. Season two, while sticking to quality of the previous season, is a slowburner without any of the intricate elements that made season one what it was.
In fact, SE2 is so slow that it almost resembles an Indian soap with anime elements. Producers obviously bled their ideas dry, leaving us with a huge "what could have been" question. So disappointed that I lack the words to describe it.
The ending didn't make any sense, hell, half of the episodes didn't make any sense. I get that producers probably wanted to depict the main characters in a different light but they failed epically. This is an example of how to ruin what could have been the greatest anime in existence.
The quality of animation is as expected, there's good dialogue up there, some ok fighting scenes here and there but that's about it. Tragically bad.
Star Wars: Visions (2021)
Season two is a huge mess and quite a letdown
Season one had its ups and downs but it was good overall. Season two not so much. Messy animation, stories that go nowhere, absolutely uninteresting characters... someone failed to do their job miserably. I've barely managed through the end of season, some episodes were so boring, even annoying. All in all, this could have been much better but an obviously poor selection of anime studios sealed the deal on it. However, all is not that dark, there was still one episode that was outstandingly good but that's only one out of 9 or 10. I rate this 5 just because i'm a sw fan, otherwise it wouldn't get past 4.
Seven Kings Must Die (2023)
A fitting end to an epic series
The Last Kingdom show is everything Vikings wished it was but never got to be. We have strong characters, perfect acting, mindbending plots, story befitting of Tolkien himself, and loads and loads of action on the battlefield. Then, there's GOT-like elements: family drama, murder, betrayal, god worshiping to the point of madness, and so on and on. There's not a single moment when the show goes dull across its five-season havoc wreaking upon your mind. Now, the film is meant to finish that epic saga by giving us a befitting end. And the movie delivers, oh yes, it delivers, big time. My only complaint here is that it's too fast and too short. So many things happen in those almost two hours. For someone who never watched the show, it may be difficult to get into the whole thing. If you're well-familiar with the characters and the story arc, you won't be having any problems with following the rather fast-paced imagery. I'm sad that the show is over, we need more top-quality series like TLK. Vikings/Northmen, get over here and learn from the masters cuz your show could've been almost as good. Oh yeah, one last thing I need to mention about TLK - it depicts the English for what they really are - mindless cutthroats in need of killing everyone they see unworthy and that pretty much means everyone who isn't English. Sounds familiar much?
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
A huge mess worse than the first movie
Where do I even begin...poor acting, cheap cgi, laughable ''action'' scenes, the worst script in the history of cinematography... Let's put it this way: this movie might be good if you're a 6year old.
Other than that, it's huge NO from me. I really don't get what prevents DC from making decent movies when they can obviously do the animated ones.
The entire portrayal of Shazam's powers can be described as the ultimate cringe. The attempts at humor are so poor they made me homeless. On the other hand, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are so terrible that I can't take any of them seriously. All in all, this is yet another disasterpiece from DC. At this point, I think it's safe to say they should lay off making live action movies, they obv don't know how do it. The only good movies to have ever come out of DC was Nolan's Batman Trilogy and Man of Steel.
Andor (2022)
A show that could easily outmatch Mando
Oh boy oh boy, was this a good ride! We haven't had SW this good since the Clone Wars! Andor is a breathtaking saga that brings SW goodness and infuses it with bleak, gloomy, and almost miserable world of Bladerunner! The last three episodes are so good that I lack the words to properly describe them. The addition of a few popular and loved actors made this show that much better. I ain't going to tell you how awesome this was because I want you to experience it yourself. Lemme just say this before y'all dig in: If you loved your SW in The Mandalorian and Clone Wars, you'll love Andor, trust me.
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham (2023)
Top class Batman we all needed!
Before I get down to my review, lemme say real quick - all the people whining about this being this or that have no clue as to what they're saying! This is Batman at its finest ladies and gents! Dark, occult, scary, mistique, with plenty of good action and interesting characters. I've been always fascinated with R'ash al Ghoul and his powers and felt like the animated movies never gave him justice. Well, this movie finally set things rights. The thing I love about it is Batman getting outside of his comfort zone and tapping into mystical powers to throttle the enemy about to swallow the world.
