Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018)
Indian Superhero flick with a difference.
Indian film industry has given a lot try to come up with its own version of Superhero flicks. Most of them have failed miserably, some have done reasonably well but mainly due to starcast involved.
This is another good try at creating a superhero called Bhavesh Joshi..which definitely sounds very ordinary name. But the treatment, direction, storyline make it a good watch.
Vikramaditya Motwane has done a fairly good job at creating a storyline which everyone can connect with, based on corruption at the local level like water issues. The performance of Harshvardhan doesn't look too impressive. A better choice of actor would have further helped the movie. Priyanshu Painuli was a good surprise. He did a fantastic job to set the pretence for a fast moving flick. Although his role is only in the first half, but he leaves a lasting impression for sure.
What is also pleasing and also supports the movie is the background score by Amit Trivedi. The soundtrack actually serves as the lifeline of the movie, sustaining an intrigue throughout the movie.
The end of movie seems little weak. Looks like Motwane was in a hurry to finish the already long cine-reel. A better ending could have made it much better Indian superhero package.
Overall its a decent movie, with good intentions and definitely great background score.
OK Jaanu (2017)
Not OK Jaanu
'Ok Jaanu' is a classic example of meaningless cinema. The movie struggles to pick up and keeps giving the audience a chance to say "kya bakwass movie hai, paise barbaad ho gaye" during the course of the movie itself. The story lacks sense, what else can u say when hero and heroine meet for the first time across the railway platform (just see each other) and then in their 2nd meeting without talking to each other simply exchange their numbers. I mean come on in todays world who does that. Then director struggles to bring any masala to their romantic journey and it keeps touching new lows. Finally u reach a stage where u start looking at ur watch and pray please let the movie get over.
The only twist or suspense in the movie was that how will the hero and heroine get out of the situation where they have to decide between career and love. And when you will get to know the decision you will further curse yourself for deciding on coming for the movie. But thankfully by then it will time for you to leave the theatre.
So watch this movie only if you have nothing better to do over the weekend, cos over weekdays I am sure you would have better things to do.
One last comment, I can't understand why Shraddha Kapoor is wasting her talent in such useless projects. Hope she doesn't become lady Shakti Kapoor who was seen in almost every useless movie that use to hit theatre at one point in time.
Madaari (2016)
Watch it for Irfan!
Madaari..story of a common man who has been hit by one of many adversities led by corrupt politicians. He decides not to keep quite but goes ahead to bring everyone involved exposed in his own way. A good story brought alive with great performance by Irfan Khan. The film though a little long considering it doesn't have usual bollywood dose of song and dance every 2 mins, keeps you bound. This film will remind you of Naseeruddin Shah's "A Wednesday" in a lot of ways.
Irfan does a great job as protagonist and succeeds in gaining the sympathy of the audience. Jimmy Shergil's role somehow doesn't live up to the expectations. The director couldn't do justice to his talent.
Overall a good one time watch! "Much better than over-hyped Kabali which was released on the same day."
Kabali (2016)
Kabali worth kabadi!
There's not 1 thing for which u should watch this movie, unless you are a die-hard Rajni fan and want to uselessly stare at him for just being there on the screen for 2hr 15 odd mins. I went to watch the movie having read that action is worth watching, well seems for the reviewer firing bullets was action!! It total waste of money and talent as big as that of Rajni.
A lot of plot is unnecessarily wasted for the search of Kabali's wife. The movie is dragged just to show more of Rajni's face. Even the climax was planned and executed haphazardly. Seriously throughout the movie I kept struggling to find one good reason why to watch this or recommend this but failed to find one.
Vicky Donor (2012)
A game changer for Indian Film Industry - must watch!!
Vicky Donor: Bollywood correction Indian Film Industry has grown up..it may have taken 100 years for this but wo kehte hain na 'Der Aaye Durust Aaye'. A very different topic first of all for the movie - a very brave one considering the Indian audience - so all credit to producers. Then for making a superb light comedy out of such a topic credit should go to Sujit Sarkar, the director.
Performances of Ayushmaan and Yami have been really great. Ayushmaan has been there on small screen for sometime and he continues his charm on the big screen as well. Yami has looked ravishing throughout - seems her fair and lovely expense is paying off ;). Anu Kapoor shows his maturity in his role. The duo of Dolly and her in-law has been rib-tickling throughout.
Overall performances were superb, music really touches your heart...the best part is the way punjabi culture has been portrayed and when it mixes with Bongs for a wedding..it really gets funny...10 out of 10 from me..hope this movie turns out to be a game changer for the times ahead!!
The Adventures of Tintin (2011)
A fun-ride you'll love for sure
The adventures of Tintin brings back the memories of childhood tales we use to hear, read and sometimes watch on television as well. The entire effect is very nostalgic. The characters have been well grafted into the movie - something Steven Spielberg is best at. He takes you to an adventurous trip which somehow tickles your funny bone as well after regular intervals. Tintin and his dog snowy are cute and adorable and you feel like watching them more and more.
The other characters which grab your attention are Capt Haddock with is ever growing love for liquor. The Thompsons too get their bit of attention. Right from the beginning the story sets up in an action packed super show and carries itself throughout at a great pace - without giving you a moment to blink your eyes.
It's definitely a movie kids would love to watch but the younger generation would also connect to it - given the timeless popularity of character Tintin and his super dog snowy. The 3D effects make the movie even more thrilling and exciting. Go watch it.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Fun filled ride with superstars..!
Everything in this movie works. Hrithik's workoholicism, Farhan's comic timing, Abhay's confused commitment, Kat's live life every moment and Kalki's don't let your fiancé go away - every character fills the screen with life. Especially Hrithik+Farhan+Abhay's chemistry keeps the little long movie enjoyable. But this movie is not just about characters. You would have seen so many movies that are shot in a studio and director doesn't even thinks of moving out of studio gate. This one is like world's cheapest trip to Spain and every shot of Spain looks awesome.
But the show stealer has been the adventure sports in which Hrithik+Farhan+Abhay participate. They are shot so beautifully that you feel you are actually there with the stars and living every moment of it. Especially the sky diving was simply heart throbbing.
So watch this movie for a fun-filled ride to Spain with some awesome funny characters. And I'm sure u will come out smiling :)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011)
Best of the best..!
HP7-Part 2: The wait for every HP movie was long and this one seemed even longer as this is where it all ends. But the wait was worth it. Probably the best of Harry Potter series. Yes, Harry is back one last time and in a way which we all waited for so long. The Movie works like Magic, especially in 3D. Loved every bit of it. It had everything we want in HP series, thrill, action, magic, fun.
One important thing for anyone who reads this review. Please understand that don't expect any movie to be exact replica of the book. That is impossible to create. So please don't expect the same amount of details from this one as well.
But the point is you will love what you will see. Every scene is so well crafted, so well drawn and so well enacted. Every character gets its due and bring the best to us.
This is one of the best special effects movie you will ever see, so go for it and enjoy!!
And yes I will miss HP like millions of other HP fans!! Sob Sob! 10 out of 10. Go watch it..!
Murder 2 (2011)
Murder 2 - different from what it appears
Murder 2: Its not what it seems. Yes although M2 has been marketed as a sizzling sensuous saga, its very different from that. Its a story about a serial killer and how he gets nailed down by ex-cop Hashmi, who pulls out a decent performance as an actor. But the surprise package is Prashant Narayanan who acts as serial killer and does a fantastic job.
Jacqueline looks great whenever she appears on the screen, but don't watch this movie just for her.
The direction is good and the movie is fast paced. Music is ordinary and does not create any impact.
Watch this if you wanna see a gruesome gory murder mystery! I would suggest rather wait for DVD. 5 out of 10 stars.
Knowing (2009)
An innovative approach of Hollywood
I wonder how Hollywood keeps coming with concepts so innovative and different like 'Knowing'. I'm a sci-fiction freak and look at movies which have logic behind them. And this one truly amazed me.
The entire movie kept my interest level high. Special effects were classic. Nicholas Cage was once again at his very best. The most important thing about the movie was its presentation. Each and every scene was well thought off and then shot. Clearly shows the brilliance of the director.
The highlight of the movie was the train accident scene. It really gave me goosebumps. Even the plane crash scene has been presented extremely well.
I rate this movie 8/10 and recommend it to all sci-fiction lovers.
