30 minutes in excess
4 October 2002
The PKD short story and the film kept only the concept and name in common. There is few in the film from the "book", but this is not my regret. Steven Spielberg did it again. A quite good film with 30 minutes in excess, have become a mediocre one. All the world around the film make it very credible, the absolutely real ads like the Kellogs, the Nokia screen-phone, the personalized publicity, the watches, the 3D image home projector, the virtual screen manipulation, and so on... (well, except the cars and traffic, that's are quite stupid). Personally I don't like Mr Cruise as actor, but even in this case was not a real bad one (5 over 10). My main dissapointment are the last 30 minutes. Why Spielberg needs to explain everything, why he needs to finish all threads, and specially WHY HE ALWAYS NEED A HAPPY END.

Excellent film, bad content
25 June 2002
Film is still a must see. The construction, the flashbacks and forwards, the dialogues, the camera position and the music are still one of the best. I'm a business man, I had similar dialogues on my day-to-day business. Not on the same topic, but similar. The way you talk about your travels, people you meet, sex, food, ... The scene when Vincent and Jules wait in front of the door because is too early, I did many times before visiting a customer (sure with different intentions). I always wonder what this "bad" people talk about, and found same fears and interest like me. My only concern, and that's the reason not to give a higher score is too drug related. Honestly I can handle the violence, but not the drug. Yes, I know it's the same, and probably it's a personal fear, but I found really disgusting the scene where Vincent takes the heroin.

Barbarella (1968)

So bad, that's funny
20 May 2002
Saw film yesterday (2002) on TV, after seeing on cinema "Attack of the clones". Barbarella a 34 years old film is so bad made that's really funny (just the opposite to Lucas one. Too well made that's boring). All special effects are hand made, one can see the background screen used on some scenes (i.e. when the angel flights), the gravitation effect at the beginning is filmed over a glass (reflection can be seen easily), the starship is made in "porexpan" and paper. If you like serious sci-fic films (i.e. Blade Runner) just forget about Barbarella, but if you want to laugh and enjoy for the standard 94 minutes, just rent the film and open your mind. Sexuality is a main key part of the film. Some images are quite surprising for a 1968 film, even for today (see when some women are smoking "man scent"). Highly funny is also see the sex machine playing against Barbarella (guess who wins...)

There are better ways to waste your time
11 May 2002
Clerks is a little masterpiece, and that's the problem. Kevin Smith reach the exit too early, and have not been able to digest. No one of his other films bring anything. Dogma has some creativity inside, but Mallrats and the even worse "Jay and Silent Bob" can be easy classified as the worse "teen films". If you want to waste your Saturday, better see the TV (at least you'll save some money).

Still an excellent film
4 May 2002
I saw this film again after several years. Still believe is drama, a dark inner film. I never considered as a comedy. Characters are very well put on scene, that even a man can identify himself with some of the performances. Music also makes the point. ABBA is so out of fashion today, that's close to a classic.
