Karen (2021)
Edgy, suspenseful and a good start for really looking at a malignancy that plagues American society!
I see lots of low ratings with zero sustenance, which leads me to opine, these are folks that didn't bother watching the movie, nor are they aware this movie is based on true events that occurred in 2020, in the state of Virginia. This speaks volumes about Americans in general and why hate and narcissism runs rampant and unchecked!
IMDB now provides a demographic breakdown of ratings. It shows males are primarily the ones giving low ratings....clearly not by accident and most likely beta males, who are angry, failures in life, lonely, depressed incels. Their anger is terribly displaced and misdirected, just like the character in the movie.
From a psychoanalytic perspective, this behavior is actually very primitive and unevolved. The conscious mind, subconscious mind, and unconscious mind are not developed and remain stunted.
I've noticed similar ratings of movies addressing racism or movies with a predominantly black cast. Should be no surprise it's usually Americans who behave this way.....there's an unspoken nuance of Narcissistic Personality Disorder that's very prevalent in American society.
The irony of it all is, the people who are giving such low ratings because they don't like what's being dealt with in the movie, are revealing a Freudian Slip of sorts and subconsciously revealing they are the character in the movie. They are Karen but too narcissistic to see it.
Definitely watch the movie. There's a hint of psychoanalysis in the movie as to why Karen behaves the way she does. There's a much deeper psychological malignancy there, which people might not catch. Everything she accuses her neighbors of, she's guilty of herself....this is true for racists in general. There's also a personality disorder, which as mentioned previously, isn't talked about much when discussing racists.....usually Narcissistic Personality Disorder or Anti-social Personality Disorder aka Sociopathy.
It also touches on the model minority paradigm, with the Asian American character and how that plays out in American society.
Overall, not a perfect movie but definitely worth watching and deciphering the behaviors of racists in the movie, racists in American society in general and racists who low rate movies that address racism by gaslighting....most of us know which mental illness gaslighting is associated with!
Scream (2015)
Ignore the negative reviews for Season 3
Please ignore the whiney, narcissistic reviews about Season 3. Those come from people who think it should have remained mostly vanilla. This is a horror genre, not some show aiming for an Emmy nomination. As someone who grew up in the 80s with plenty of vanilla horror shows and didn't complain about it, I simply enjoyed them for what they were.....entertainment! All three Seasons were good. Season 3 was the only one that didn't feel soap boxy and that's what I liked about it. I also appreciated the change of pace and fresh new faces.
When you see comments whining and crying about Season 3, you'll know it has nothing to do with the actual show but more to do with American narcissism and fear.....fear of change, fear of newness and fear of evolution! Think about!
Doubt (2008)
There is No Doubt Indeed!
You may doubt that Sister Aloysius's suspicions about Father Flynn are correct. You may doubt that Father Flynn isn't guilty of inappropriate behavior with a young boy. You may doubt Sister James's position in this situation....whether she agrees with Sister Aloysius or whether she agrees with Father Flynn. You may doubt whether Mrs. Miller is a good mother due to her comments and actions but there is no doubt, that the real victim here, is Donald Miller.
This is how real life plays out. The true victim is forgotten while we spend so much time trying to figure out whose side to take due to all of the sensationalism. Donald Miller is a victim of Sister Aloysius, Donald Miller is a victim of Father Flynn, Donald Miller is a victim of Sister James (she signaled him out in the classrooom). Donald Miller is a victim of his abusive Father, Donald Miller is a victim of his Mother's moral judgement. Donald Miller is a victim of society's treatment towards minorities, gays and lesbians. Nevermind the adults, what will happen to this young innocent boy as he grows up?
So do we really care about Donald Miller and how he's being impacted by all of this? He delivers a powerful statement right at the beginning that undoubtedly got lost in all the melee of shouting adults. He asked James Hurley if he thought he was fat. There lies a tragedy and a forgotten victim. One scroll through the comments and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about with absolutely, no doubt!
