Saltburn (2023)
Not how people described it
I decided to watch this movie after seeing how people were "freaking out" on Tik Tok, and I was fully expecting it to be terrifying, but that's not the impression I got. Instead, I got a sense of obsession and desire that had turned into pure destruction.
*Huge spoilers start here*
The main character Oliver wasn't happy with his life, he wanted something more, he wanted popularity and privilege, and the only way he can get that was if he used manipulation and lies.
He used these lies to fix himself into the other character, Felix's life.
This is where it all turns destructive, he ends up wanting everything Felix has, his family's love, his power, his home, his life. So, obviously he took those. He loved this power, he loved this privilege, that he wanted it all to himself. That's when he becomes engulfed with desire and offs the whole family, one by one.
This movie had a few things that made you feel uncomfortable, but overall this movie was beautiful. It makes you feel an attachment to Oliver, we are viewing this movie through his eyes, we are seeing how he thinks, making the whole situation seem "less terrible" in a way. This movie had beautiful scenery and the end was amazing, the power of his dance really just completed the whole vibe of the movie.
Overall this movie did a good job with the, "Eat The Rich" symbolism. It was really good.
My Heart Can't Beat Unless You Tell It To (2020)
Underrated film
I was scrolling through tubi when I decided to watch this movie, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into but after I watched it, I had to watch it again. This movie is fantastic. It shows the trauma and how everyone deals with it throughout the movie.
I personally think this movie is a metaphor for addiction and how it can affect the lives of you and the people you love. Thomas was addicted to blood and if he didn't have it, it would kill him. He would suffer and do anything he could to get the blood, causing pain to himself and his family. I also like how you could see how Thomas didn't enjoy indulging in his addiction but he couldn't help it, he needed it to survive.
I liked how the movie was seen through the eyes of Jesse and Dwight instead of thomas himself. It gave the viewer a whole new view on the actual issue at hand, it allowed us to see how it impacted them and not just thomas.
I think this movie did an incredible job with the acting, the coloring, the camera angles, and the overall story/metaphor.
