Jubin Nautiyal: Tum Hi Aana (2019)
Very good
Ears".13
Times Now's Gaurang Chauhan claimed that, "The melodious tune and Jubin's soothing voice will instantly transport you back to the good old days of the 90s"
14 The staff of Indian magazine Outlook cited the song for having "won acclaim and popularity" for Dev.
15News18's staff wrote, "The soulful romantic number Tum Hi Aana is a tear-jerker, to say the least".
4Rafat Sami from the Glamsham regarded, "Verma's lyrics, though filmy, touch the heart and are simple and relatable".
16Keyur Seta of Cinestaan believed that the song is "Motif" throughout Marjaavaan.
17 DJ Munks from BizAsia wrote that, " the song does have a very deeply moving and soulful instrumentation that makes this a gorgeous melody to listen to.
Lion (2016)
Good movie
Kamla works carrying stones during the night shift and Guddu also works in the night in the Central Station. One night, Saroo insists on going with Guddu to his work and does not resist and sleeps. Guddu leaves Saroo sleeping on a bank I the station and asks him to stay there until he returns. However the boy wakes up in the middle of the night and decides to seek out his brother in a train. He sleeps again and he wakes up in Calcutta, West Bengal, and 1,600 km east of Khandwa. Saroo does not speak Bengali, only Hindi, and lives on the street of the big city. One day, a young man brings Saroo to the police station and he is sent of an institution for children. In 1987, Saroo is adopted by an Australian family and moves to Hobart, Tasmania. He is raised with love by his foster parents and one day, he goes to an Indian party promoted by his Indian mates from the university with his girlfriend Lucy (Rooney Mara). He tells the story of his childhood and triggers the feeling of missing his family. Now Saroo becomes obsessed to find his mother Kamla and his siblings. Will he succeed in his search?
"Lion" is a great film based on a true story. The first part is a masterpiece and the boy Sunny Pawar steals the show. The plot is heartbreaking with the 5 year-old boy lost alone in the big city and without speaking the local language. There is an ellipsis when he grows up and the film turns into a melodrama inferior to the story of Saroo's childhood on the streets of Calcutta.
12th Fail (2023)
Super moviy
All the actors are superb...Vidhu vinod Chopra has one again proved that he is the headmaster of indian cinema university.
The way he has portrayed the character in his movie is superb ,words are fallen short.
I was in tears many times and when I realised kids from small poor family has to go through a lot of struggle.
Government should support all the prople of India without any baised views and help the poor family,We need a education system which is robust and it should be free of cost for all the citizens.
We also need such movies which can transform the society andvit should bevtax free and should be promoted at all the platform.
Baby (2015)
Very good movie
Baby is Bollywood's answer to Argo!!!!!!!!! The entire plot has been amazingly crafted. The performance of the entire cast was amazing. Bollywood rarely produces movies nowadays that are watchable, and in between comes this gem of a movie. The first half of the movie is good. However the real plot comes into play in the second half. The last 45-50 minutes of the the movie were so engaging that I could not remove my eyes from the theater screen. And the biggest merit of the film is the fact that there are no songs in the movie, only background music is there.
Akshay Kumar has played a superb role. Its time that he should realize the fact that he looks really amazing doing films like holiday, baby and Special 26, and that he should stop doing mindless commercial movies. Danny and Anupam Kher are great at their roles. The action scenes are amazing, and cinematography is good. The best part of the movie is its direction. Neeraj Pandey has made two awesome movies earlier, and with this film he sets the standards even higher. Why cant Bollywood have more of Neeraj Pandeys and Hiranis and Anurag Kashyaps? Why cant Bollywood churn even two quality films every month?
Kudos to Neeraj Pandey, Akshay Kumar and co.
3 Idiots (2009)
Really very good movie. All the tym favourite.
Rajkumar Hirani has always addressed a certain issue and/or has boldly hit many lame principles and ethics of the society with a perfect satire. In this movie, it's about the cliched belief that if you're a science student, then it has to be either medical science or engineering if you want to get successful. In the real world, many people have been a victim of this belief and have wasted their life. Had they not been brainwashed by the society, they would've had a better life. That's what the movie justifies and as per my experience, it makes a whole lot of sense. Another thing is, you need to worry about excellence. If you are excellent, the good grades are almost obvious. And in the end it's your excellence that matters, not the grades.
Hirani tells the story in his own unique way. Just like in every single one of his movies so far, he crancks up everything to 11 to make sure that his point has reached to the audiences' mind.
Don 2 (2011)
Great movie
I've the first Shahrukh Khan's remake Don in parts. The movie was stylish and chic but I could never understand what Arjun Rampal was doing in it. The music and whole look of the movie was defiantly noticeable; I think that led to DON2. This is more off a heist movie than a Don movie. Kudos to director Farhan Akhtar for blending the perfect heist into Don's scenario. This defiantly leaves more room for the next Don movies as well for the viewers to enjoy. I think finally Shahrukh found a bankable franchise in his hands which he was hoping from Ra. One. Shahrukh Khan is amazing in this movie and leaves a strong impact. Priyanka Chopra is great and her last scene where Boman on gun point tells her to Shoot Don was Amazing. Lara Dutta looked stunning. Boman Irani was superb as always. Overall a great heist movie up to Hollywood standards. I'll wait for DON3 now.
English Vinglish (2012)
Nice movie
I had the least expectations from a come-back movie of Sri Devi, but no one could have done a better job for this role. Sri Devi has the most realistic and lively expressions you will get to see in an actress. As my wifey puts it: "One of the most appealing characteristic of Sri Devi's acting is her ability to talk with her eyes", and you are going to see a lot of her eyes. Movie shows the ever-young face of Sri Devi for about 80-85% of the time, but you will never get bored of watching her or her "talking eyes". For all those people who wonder why Sri Devi still has a big fan following, this movie is the reason :-).
The story of 'English vinglish' has a very nice flow to it. You are going to be surprised as to how simple the story is and what a brilliant job the creators have done to shape it into a master-piece. If not for the last scene, this movie would have scored the max points on my ratings, but kudos to the director for keeping it real. Putting aside the acting of Sri Devi, all the co-actors too have done an excellent job in keeping the movie entertaining. Not the mention the unexpected.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001)
Great movie. Love all characters in this movie.
Kareena Kapoor is appropriately cast and is also excellent in the role of Poo. She is a delight to watch, and does not falter, even in the comic scenes with Shahrukh. One cannot imagine anyone else in this role.
Hrithik Roshan, to me, was the surprise of the movie. He was brilliant and just about steals the show in the second half of the movie. His performance is sincere and visually a treat. He is indeed the superstar of the future. Bulging muscles and hip dance steps aside, this guy is a brilliant actor through and through.
But for me, Shahrukh Khan is the star of this movie. He is stupendous, magnificent, brilliant. He makes you laugh, cry, dance, cringe, smile. He does all this with flawless perfection. His pairing with Kajol is magical, and it shows on screen. I can now understand why Karan Johar says that he cannot imagine doing a film without Shahrukh. The guy is amazing.
Ghulam (1998)
Great
Siddhu is a small time felon in Bombay who's morals can be summarised as 'every man for himself'. His lawyer has faith he can change and is trying to help him by keeping him out of jail for petty offences. Siddhu's brother works for Ronny, an ex-boxer who now runs organised crime in the area. As a result Siddhu gets some muscle work for Ronny. One day Ronny's thugs are beating up some shopkeepers for money by Siddhu's house. Afterwards Siddhu meets the eldest, Hari, and befriends him. However Hari is responsible for causing Ronny trouble and hence Siddhu unwittingly helps Ronny to kill him.
I have only seen a handful of Bollywood films of these I have loved one (Lagaan) and been indifferent to the majority. I find that they have all the flaws of Hollywood exploitation movies without many of the production values. Ghulam (The Slave) is a fine example of the standard Bollywood formula - songs, pretty girls, manly heroes, hairy villains, overacting and dramatic music and direction. As such it is OK but I'm not a fan of these standard formulae. I'd rather have them with at least a bit of a new spin. However this film doesn't want to do that and gives it to us straight. The plot is a basic 'do the right thing' film that borrows heavily from 'On the Waterfront' in many different ways.
ImMATURE (2019)
Great movie
The show packs a great concept and presents itself in a very unique way. The show drives high on nostalgia (it took me back to my school days). The NCERT textbooks, graffiti filled bathrooms and the Unit Test cheating tactics brought back some memories. The characters are so hilariously original. Especially Susu--he is a delight to watch. The acting talent is surprisingly fresh. Each one of them had done a Fab job. It is easily one of the best writing from TVF. TVF is already known for its laid-back premise and revolutionary character play, but this show took it to some another tangent. I wish it had more episodes. I want to see more of the supporting cast.
Elden Ring (2022)
Great movie
I think they've done a really good job at welcoming newcomers to the SoulsBorne games with Elden Ring, but what would have made it perfect is to give us an option to toggle objectives and quest logs on or off. That way, the Souls fanbase would be pleased as well as the newcomers like me, who want to complete everything. This map and game is huge and overwhelming enough without constantly having to look things up on my phone.
That's really the only problem I have with the game though. The combat, the aesthetic, the music, world/boss design and weapon/gear design are all top notch. This game is definitely going to be a GOTY contender!
Veer-Zaara (2004)
Great movie
It was a really spectacular movie! I think the cinematography, music, colour, acting and 'second to none' story were instrumental in it being, I am sure, one of the best of its time. "Hats off" to Chopra and his team for directing yet another masterpiece! I must have this on DVD to add to my aspiring collection of movies. I couldn't believe that the movie did not waste time, with the usual 'Tun Tun' characters, which I must say, are displayed really well sometimes. The movie progressed smoothly, from one Scene to the next backed by superb and riveting music. I saw the movie this weekend (couldn't go before due to Diwali and Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations) and will return to the cinema this coming weekend to view it yet again! I think the movie had a 'Dilwale....' kind of feeling to it linked, perhaps, to the rural, peasant farming, outdoor field type of setting. I was truly pleased to see a movie linked to the India/Pakistan conflict, to be devoid of fighting and bloodshed! The movie addressed some of the more delicate issues of this conflict and must say that it was done in the most professional way!....Great movie.... I give it five(5) stars!
Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)
Good movie
SALMAN KHAN has just nailed it. Pavan in reel is just mirror image of Salman Khan in real. Love, Care, Share, Being Human. Simple, sweet, innocent. His eyes and expressions are enough. Never seen image of Salman. As he has said no one clapped for his shirtless scene. HARSHALI as Munni (Shahida) is super cute. That innocence she has made our hearts to melt. Her sweetness steals the show. Without her voice she says everything. Understanding, the bonding between her & Salman is beyond perfection. NAWAZ as Pakistani Reporter Chand Nawab is mind blowing. How he helps Salman & Munni that's must watch in movie. KAREENA as Rasika is beautiful & played her part very well. Each scene is perfect. Story by V. Vijayendra Prasad is outstanding. All are just perfect in their respective characters. Or I'll say no one can do them other than Salman, Harshali & Nawaz. Perfect direction by KABIR KHAN. Aseem Mishra as DOP has shown Kashmir's true beauty. Love moments, fun moments, emotional moments everything is perfect. There is not a single moment in whole movie at where you'll think it is unnecessary. Movie will force you to think God, Religion, Country, Boundary no one can stop Love & Humanity. You will surely love Pavan & Harshali. Super natural acting by them.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)
Favorite movie
Great movie.....
But more importantly, it was really strange to accept it as a Ranbir Kapoor film, as after ROCKSTAR and BARFI, the talented boy was reportedly reading only innovative and fresh scripts for his next films quite intelligently. Now what did he see in the script of YJHD as novel or fresh, remains out of my understanding and the actor must have done it just for the sake of his relations with the director and the production house, as it seems. Because in reality, if anyone else (with not a known name) would have gone to him with such a routine script, hugely dependent upon its youthful gags and sequences only, then he would have rejected it right away, without giving it any second thoughts. So that should say it all as per the plot line of the film is concerned.
YJHD begins on a good note and then offers you nothing in terms of story-progression in its first half. Further, post intermission it continues delivering everything predictable and never comes up with something exceptionally different or unique till the ineffective climax. The at your face promotions of brands like "Make My Trip", "Appy" and more turn it into a sub-standard product and the additional 'Madhuri's item number' too fails to serve any desired purpose. It slows down repeatedly at many places in the second half and also remains a bit lengthy film for such kind of known plot where the viewer already knows what's going to happen next.
Dangal (2016)
Great movie
Mahavir Phogat (Aamir Khan) is a home-grown National-level wrestling champion who hopes to see his unborn son(s) make India proud by winning gold at the international level. Blame his X chromosomes, but he and his wife give birth to not one, not two, but four daughters, much to Mahavir's disappointment. He surprisingly stops trying for a fifth child and packs up his dreams. However, as the kids grow up and show signs of aggressiveness, he realizes that even though their gender orientation is different from his, they may be good contenders for the game of wrestling. Convinced that his two eldest daughters, young Geeta (Zaira Wasim) and Babita (Suhani Bhatnagar), may help him take his passion forward, he begins training them - pure Ludhiana-style. The story then follows Mahavir's strict native coaching as the girls grow up (Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra) and try to climb the ladder, albeit while facing a series of stereotypes, hurdles, and rampant demoralization from the society.
As a viewer who is still in awe with the film, I will only talk about one specific (and the most important) sequence, which occurs towards the end of the first half. Without giving any spoilers - in order to prove that she doesn't need more of her father's guidance, Geeta gets into the pit to fight against the man who helped create her. The two-minute montage that Tiwari and cinematographer Sethu get absolutely, perfectly right, all with Aamir and Shaikh's emotive reactions, is the most poignant scene seen in any Bollywood film this year. There is so much in that short sequence that defines the powers of human vanity, egotism, and haughtiness - all blended with humanity's most vital feelings - it will make you cry.
Stree (2018)
Funtastic
Story : The story is set in a small town called Chanderi in MP which is supposedly haunted by an angry female spirit which targets only men during four days of an annual religious festival held there. Whether it is actually a spirit or just an urban legend is the mystery element in the film. Bicky (Rajkumar Rao), the protagonist is the best ladies tailor in town, one who can take measurements of ladies by just glancing at them. He and his "velha" friends Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana) and Jana (Abhishek Bannerjee) get involved in this whole mystery when Bicky meets a mysterious girl Shraddha Kapoor who only comes to Chanderi during the four days of the festival. As men start disappearing from Chanderi, it is upto these three friends along with a bumbling param gyaani Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi) to unravel the mystery.
Review: This is a unique film totally unlike usual horror flicks as it combines multiple genres like comedy, horror & dark humour which is not commonly seen. The blending of comedy in between the horror storyline is perfect and does not look outlandish. It however tones down the impact of the scary scenes. Having said that, the film has its scary moments which are the result of great visual and sound effects.
Casting: The casting is perfect with the three friends along with the bumbling Pankaj Tripathi providing most of the laughs. Shraddha Kapoor provides the mystery element to the storyline as she conveys both innocence and well as a sinister mind at play effectively. Rao and Tripathi are the scene stealers who breeze through their parts with ease. This is a film from Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, the makers of the zombie flick Go Goa Gone and they genuinely succeed in making a different film by combining multiple genres without diluting the essence or making the film look tacky.
My Verdict : If you have liked GO Goa Gone.
Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
Good movie
Watching Indian movies outside of India is something very impossible, everybody speaks about "the famous bollywood movies", but nobody want to release this jewels in Europe. I am so lucky I could see this supermasterpiece at the oriental cinema festival in Barcelon, I couldn't believe what I was watching. The script is stunning, the choreography crazy, the actors are superlative, the music is impressive, the plot turns you on...you can keep inside the characters as I never did. The sound is also impressive. It was like watching Mary Poppins when I was 6 yeras old, during 3 hours I lost the total terms of reality!!!! As the movie has never been exhibited in Spain and there is not copy on DVD we are so "lucky" We could find a pirate copy in a Pakistan supermarket in Barcelon, with perfect sound and image!!!! Well, I hope this message will amaze you to get this movie from.
My Name Is Khan (2010)
Super movie
Early in the film the tone is set, where Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) is taught by his mom that there are only two groups of people in the world - those who do good and those who do bad. It may be an oversimplification, but if you think about it, that's is exactly what it boils down to, regardless of language, religion and the colour of one's skin.
And it is this message that Rizwan, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, brings along in his extraordinary journey in the United States, and to the people he meets along the way. Schooled by the love of his mother, Rizwan finds himself migrating to the USA thanks to his brother's early entry into the country, and Rizwan's job as a salesman brings him to the love of his life, Mandira (Kajol). In some ways the film provided a tinge of reminiscence to Robert Zemeckis' Forrest Gump, where a simple man with a disability and living on values of love that his mom had imparted, embarks on the journey called life, encountering love, helping people, and inspiring everyone to become a better person.
Karran Johar wrote and produced Kurbaan last year, starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in yet another film which touches on terrorism on US soil, and how intolerance and violence aren't proper solutions to air one's grievances. That film didn't do too well at the box office, probably because it's somewhat of an actioner and a love story rolled into one, and perhaps everyone got distracted by the real life couple in Khan and Kapoor starring opposite each other. In MNIK, Johar takes up directorial duties, and in a stroke of casting genius, put the evergreen SRK with Kajol, who together in their 5 films long before had resulted in nothing other than box office success. My bet is this will likely continue for MNIK.
The Hunger Games (2012)
I love this movies
So much great movie......
There's almost nothing to say about a movie like The Hunger Games -- it's been so worked to death to be a successful blockbuster that all of its edges, the things that make a film good or bad, have disappeared. It just exists as a spectacle, a finished product that defies any critical lens.
I could go on about the particulars of the adaptation -- the ridiculousness of the entire Capital setting, or the sometimes disorienting shakycam work, or the great cast of adults patiently playing supporting characters -- or the source material -- the gestures at social commentary, the way that the story protects Katniss from ever having to morally sully herself -- but they all seem to be beside the point. Look. The movie has the things that happened in the book, but in a movie, competently shot and acted, with absolutely no risks taken. If you liked the book, or want to learn what this whole Hunger Games thing is about without having to read the book, you'll probably like this. It's a digestible film, even an enjoyable one, but in the end it's not really interesting or memorable. But to be fair, it wasn't meant to be.
Devdas (2002)
Loves for this movie
Super movies. Because of all the negative hype on the board. Then I took the plunge. First off let me say that I was not a great Saratchandra admirer. His stories (except SWAMI) mostly portrayed women as weak minded, subservient (maybe true to the time, but not to be admired), and men as weak and mostly well bred but not well educated. I had no real recollection of the story as written. And, not being a great Dilip Kumar fan, I never watched the old version. So, I have no comparisons to draw, no plot line differences to talk about.
I came away moved by the tragic love story that unfolded. It was not flawless, most Bollywood movies are not.
Negatives - the sets were beautiful but over the top, ditto for the costumes. The duo dance was a great way to compare Aish vs Madhuri dancing skills (both were pretty even matched for me) but in the story line it was quite silly and should not have been there. There was no real need for the the two to meet, but this was Mr, Bhansali's directorial license. Chandramukhi's kotha and environs were lifted straight from Pakeezah, which was a very stylized movie and not authentic.
Positives: Shahrukh Khan gave a very restrained performance, the silent tears accompanied with an anguish that only his eyes portrayed was a real departure from the screwed-up face crying. He was very very good in the drunk bits, very good in the anguished bits. It is remarkable how much this actor is accused of being typecast when every other year he pulls out an amazing performance - Dil Se (1998), Asoka (2001) and Devdas (2002) are all departures from his usual typecast romantic hero image. Recent roles in Swades and KANK are even more varied. The detractors will keep saying he overacted, or he portrayed no emotions, for me this was a truly great role as an anguished lover. Mr. Khan - your best actor award for this role in Devdas was well deserved.
Madhuri - what can one say about this truly great icon? She was amazing, you felt her pain, her caring, her selfless love, the moments between her and Shahrukh sizzled. And her dancing was brilliant.
Aish - was a bit wooden at times, but not always. She had a chemistry with Shahrukh that was understated until she was beyond his reach, but come on - the woman looks amazing, is there any doubt that a hundred Devdas types are dying for her?? She was better as the movie progressed to the more serious part.
The movie went into an emotional downward spiral a third of the way in and I sat there moved and almost crying for these tortured souls the rest of the two hours.
The movie was eye candy in the sets and costumes department. The two leading ladies were stunning, Shahrukh was easy on the eye, yet there was something that did detract from this being a great film. Upon much thinking I have come to the conclusion that it was the over the top beauty of everything that really made everything a little unreal for me. How could such perfect people have such imperfect lives? In essence the little black mark on the lip was missing and that left me a little dissatisfied.
If Mr. Bhansali had stated that this was an adaptation from the original novel, people would forgive him the fact that Devdas in his version is a mature man and knows his mind (although fails to act decisively on it), and the fact that an aristocratic lady visits a courtesan's establishment and the two dance together.
If you do not compare with what did or did not come before, this was an intense emotional experience, anchored by great performances from Shahrukh, Madhuri and yes, even Aish.

A masterpiece worth of all its praise
A biopic about a Mahanati(The great actress) who lived as a queen and worshiped by many people for her benevolence and magic on silver screen. This biopic is filled with emotions that I was speechless after it is completed. I still cant get out of that setting. The cinematography, screenplay and direction Mahanati is literally an art. Nagaswin is such a gem of a director. People criticized when Heath Ledger was picked as Joker and Ben Affleck as Batman but it is proven every time that Only a true visionary knows how to pick the best cast for a movie and guess what Nag aswin did it again. I didn't witness Savithri garu on screen but Keerthy Suresh made a permanent imprint in my mind such that I can only see Savithri in her from now on. A Must Watch.
