The Sopranos (1999)
The Sopranos is the reason we love gangster stories
I don't like movies and stories about gangsters because of their action scenes, killings, violence or the cruelty of these guys, really what I enjoy most about this type of story is the morbid world in which they live and how they cope with all these problems in normal life, the best scenes in mafia movies are not necessarily the scenes of killings or uncontrolled action, I enjoy much more an interesting story with psychologically and spiritually deep characters, characters that transmit their pain and despair, it is not easy to live This life is stressful and frustrating and really respectable how these men maintained families without anyone finding out about their double lives. All the morbidity surrounding gangsters catches my attention. I don't know if I was a hitman in another life, although in this one I feel much better watching The Sopranos from my living room.
This series has so much depth in its story that you don't need a shooting or homicide scene to move you. The Sopranos does it well between its quiet scenes, dialogues, the routines of our characters, things from everyday life, such as when Tony travels with his daughter to visit colleges thinking about his future, or when Chrissy is frustrated by not being a successful writer, these well-constructed subplots make for an intelligent and profound show about human life through a life of crime. Why should we see life through the eyes of a criminal? In The Sopranos you realize that the people we call "normal" or "civilians" are not so far from the criminal life, we all hide secrets, memories, we all at some point need a gangster friend, problems that cannot be solved with the police due to the incompetent judicial system, this dilemma is seen very well with Dr. Melfi, who at one point in the story is tempted to resort to Tony's destructive power, without a doubt one of my favorite episodes. The Sopranos covers almost every topic about family life, from infidelities, rebellious children, abusive mothers and absent fathers, suicides, divorces and the eternal religious debate, believe me, there is nothing you won't see in this series, that's why I dare say This could be the best television series I've ever seen in my entire damn life.
