Hori-san to Miyamura-kun (2021)
My first romance anime
This is about 2 high schoolers who tend to "live a different life" outside of school verses what the students at school see. They become friends and feel more like themselves when only around each other. I find Miyamura more interesting than Hori but they still balance each other nicely. Miyamora originally has piercing's and wears his long hair in a pony tail when outside of school. This looks suits him and eventually as he feels more accepted by his classmates/friends. He stops wearing the piercing's and cuts his hair. Hori is a bit bipolar and has outburst of anger with physical abuse. This seems to be accepted and also played off as her being into SNM. She also likes to be humiliated and put down by Miyamura. They actually call it a KINK of hers. I don't mind consensual SNM but what she does is straight abuse and I hate that they play it off as anything other than that. She doesn't ever seem to have character development in learning its NOT okay to just abuse the boy you like (or anyone for that matter). But overall with this show being my first ever romance anime I was hooked to the story and even bought the manga so I could get more of the story.
Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru (2023)
I love anime romance
Episodes 1-5 really kept me on my toes about what would happen with the character. It opens immediately with Ankane being dumped. She goes to an event where she knows he will be trying to dress nice and make her ex jealous of what he lost. However, things don't go according to plan and she almost embarrasses herself when she meets Yamada. She quickly begs him to pretend to be boyfriend. And thus begins their love story. There was a slow down with episodes 6-8 but it picked back up again for the last 9-13 episodes. Its pure character development and relationship building so if you want a lot of drama or surprises this isn't going to be the anime for you. For me the building of the relationship was so sweet I couldn't get enough. This is the second romance anime I have watched, the first being Horimiya, which I also adored.
