Into the Wild (2007)

Lovely film, makes you think.

First off, this film and especially Hal Holbrook are Oscar material in my mind. Hal's character was perfectly cast and perfectly well done. Exceedingly believable and quite touching. Kudos to the director, casting person, and to Mr. Holbrook. I suspect this will be another highlight of Mr Holbrooks career. Along with his Mark Twain effort. Holbrook deserves an Oscar. I was quite moved.

That being said, this movie is not judgmental. It presents the story in an even handed way. You the viewer, decides who is "evil" and who is not. The many critiques or kudos here are based on peoples own perceptions and filtered through their own time and place in their mental, ethical and chronological and societal place.

Younger people may see the main character as stupid or wonderfully idealistic.

To me it was the story of a young man, who is idealistic, and genial, at the same time, who can not make any meaningful connections due to..youth, and trouble in his background. And makes some mistakes along the way as young people will.

In his travels he has opportunity to grow spiritually. Does he succeed? Watch and find out.

Having more than once..turned to nature and actually raised my hands to the heavens on a mountain or two (usually naked) I could empathize with his search for solace there.

The cinematography was good. The main and supporting actors were great. The story a nice meditation on human connections.

Enchanting and lovely. Focus is on emotion not action. if you like French films you will like this.

This so reminded me of many French films i have seen in that it focuses on the delicate emotions. For the first time in a long time i sat there and simply lost myself in the movie. Usually I am distracted by hackneyed plots, or heavy handed director technique.

It is different, and has a different focus. Set in an area and time of the world i was not familiar with, made it all the better.

Like some French films, it focuses on emotions and love - not action. The sparks of humor were unexpected and funny. It just took me away from real life and that to me is a good movie.

I liked that there was no right or wrong in this movie. It is just a story of several people and how they lived. Of course on a higher level there is a lot to think about in terms of love and its various aspects which are examined in this movie.

The sound editing could have been better, i had difficulty hearing the dialog at times. Most actors and actresses were great.

If you enjoy movies that are more about emotion, where there is no clear "hero" you will like this movie.

Super raunchy and super funny.
21 November 2007
This move is an odd mixture of gross out raunchy, and wonderful satire, mixed in with surprisingly appealing musical numbers.

I mean really really raunchy and gross out. Not for weak of stomach, but the satire makes up for it. If you liked Rocky Horror Picture Show, you may like this.

The story has been detailed elsewhere. I think it could have been a better film without all the gratuitous raunchiness..it still would have been as funny as all get out.

Satire is not seen in films today and this one is done very well in that aspect, poking fun at many aspects of popular culture.
