Wish (2023)
I don't get the low rating?
I can honestly say I really really liked this movie. I haven't liked anything they've made in the past 20 years and I've seen every single animated movie that Disney has made to date. I didn't care for Encanto, Luca or Raya - although the animation was really beautiful the story felt hollow. The music in Wish is really great and I actually added the soundtrack to my playlist collection. The message is clear and powerful which makes me like it more. I really enjoyed the "Disney nods" to their other films like Snow White, Bambi, etc. I can say with confidence that I will be watching this again soon!
Dead Boy Detectives (2024)
Corny, Cringey and low quality Special FX
I thought the first episode was a little cheesy but intriguing enough to stay and watch episode 2. What a disappointment. This felt really juvenile and lacking the effects of a much more sophisticated supernatural series. I'd liken this to the early 90's Goosebumps television series at best. Imagine my surprise when I saw that this show is given a "MA-Mature Audience" rating!!! The entire show will make you cringe. Put it this way; I offered to my teenager to watch with me (since it seems aimed for a young audience) and he started laughing and thought it was ridiculous. I don't exactly understand who the target audience is but it definitely feels more like a series for an 11/12 year old child if you don't take into account the foul language. Weird and not worth the time.
Strays (2023)
Immature, dumb people will find this funny
I tried to give this movie a chance but it was just so bad I gave up halfway through. If "poopoo peepee " jokes are top tier humor to you then this will be a winner for you but I prefer actual comedy and found this to be immature toilet talk with a heavy dose of the f-word to make it seem more adult-oriented. That said, the graphics were terrible and if it weren't for my use of subtitles there's not much to look at besides the dogs doing basic tricks like rolling over or spinning around in a circle to have some movement on the screen. With the big names voicing the dogs I expected so much more. Pass.
Death in the Dorms (2023)
The Loud Music cheapens the series
These weird little music videos at the beginning of each episode were unnecessary and totally strange. I found the cases themselves interesting but the dramatic scripted storytelling from 3rd parties really weakens my enjoyment of a true-crime documentary. I wouldn't recommend anything else produced by these doc producers. They have the same salacious tone as a bad true crime podcast. Fine if you want something to watch and you aren't distracted by overtly dramatic storytelling and commentary from people who were not at all involved in the victims or offenders lives. It comes off like gossip imo.
The Missing (2014)
Frequent time jumps made it difficult to stay focused
Season 1 review: The story itself was tragic and it keeps you intrigued to know what happened to the child but the timeline jumps all over the place so frequently that it can be incredibly difficult to follow. The cast actors were very good except for the mother, often times her devastation seemed forced and quite phoney or under-emotional for the severity of the situation. I personally found there were too many dramatic emotional relationship scenes that didn't add to the plot but rather drew out the length of the episodes which really slowed the series progression for me. The last 3 minutes were an utter disappointment and totally unnecessary. Despite this it is still worth the watch.
The Last Unicorn (1982)
Utter nonsense
The ONLY good thing about this film is the beauty in the animated unicorn. She is whimsical and pretty. Other than that, the rest of the animation is quite poor. The soundtrack is awful, boring and melancholy. I truly don't understand how this movie is so well-liked. The dialogue is unusual and it's lacking any proper plot.
I believe that the beauty of the unicorn is the only reason anyone likes this film unfortunately because everything else is just awful. I don't really know what else I can say about this but I'm trying to meet the minimum character requirements to submit my review and that's all.
American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders (2024)
Negative reviews are US Govt bots
I think we all know that the US Government has long had their fingers in dirty operations. I don't think for 1 second the journalist killed himself and I think that these guys who made this documentary were starting to feel the same threats that he was and had to quickly backtrack somewhat or they would meet the same fate. I appreciated the insinuations that they left near the end for the audience to draw their own conclusions from without directly implying that this was a deliberate government sanctioned murder to silence a whistleblower.
I do wish that the film was a little less jumbled and thrown together in the last episode however it goes to show the immense stress and pressure that I'm sure these 2 felt when they were getting closer to an answer.
The Postcard Killings (2020)
Film not true to the book at all
I watched the movie several years ago, then I read the book and rewatched the movie again.
Before reading the book this was an average serial killer film that I originally would give 6/10. Since reading the book, which was PHENOMENAL, I'm incredibly disappointed with the way they completely changed the story. They even invent several characters that aren't in the book. For example, in the bookNYPD detective "Jacob" is a single father who raised his daughter from 3mo old after her drug-addicted mother Lucy takes off on them. In this movie, the opening scene introduces Famke Jansen as "Valerie" his wife and daughter's mother.
If you haven't read the book this is an average serial killer movie. If you read the book, skip yourself the incredible disappointment and don't waste your time on watching this one.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Fast & Fun
I was hooked from the very first episode. There is great cameos from other A-list celebrities. This was action packed and the story was well paced. The character arc building was excellently written.
I enjoyed the humorous bits for comedic relief. The chemistry between the leads was phenomenal. If you are looking for a great little show to binge with action, comedy and romance then this is the perfect series.
I truly do not understand why so many people have rated so low. I'm not sure what they expected but I was especially impressed and highly recommend you ignore those reviews and give this a watch!
