The Antisocial Network (2024)
Losers and very unethical people are elevated to heroes
The documentary tries to tell a story that is not true. 4Chan has always been considered an unethical platform by "normal" people. The documentary not only trivializes the behavior of the members but also gives them even more supposed influence in the historical narrative. They show trolling of the first 4Chan generation as a relatively harmless practice. But remember these are the people who had fun by for example spamming homepages which are meant to help people suffering form epilepsy by posting pictures that could actually trigger an epileptic seizure, which is life-threatening. All this is totally trivialized in this documentary. Only half-truths are told. Everything that doesn't fit into the "storytelling" is ignored.
A Place We Go To (2018)
Disappointing
The movie editing is very weird. Maybe they tried to go for being artsy but hey failed. The writing and the storyline is off and you can't really connect with it. It's all too forced and not very deep. The acting is mediocre but there wasn't really much to work with in the beginning. I'm so tired of mediocre LGBTQ+ movies. It feels like they are just made to meet a quota. I just wish there would be a well thought out movie with enough budget and good actors. But those movies are so rare this days. This movie definitly goes in the category of forgettable and not worth watching. Time is better spend otherwise.
