Radio Free Roscoe (2003)
Surprise
I would like to start this off by saying I am probably not even close to being in Radio Free Roscoe's target market. I am in my 30's and male. I found this show by accident. I was flipping through the channels and caught a music video. I had never heard of "the n" before and thought maybe it was a new video station. I kept it on as I was making dinner and RFR came on next. I was busy in the kitchen so I didn't bother changing it. I eventually started watching in the kitchen and actually was laughing out loud at some of the scenes. I have since watched some of the other episodes and have enjoyed them also. They are very well-written, funny, and I think the acting is actually really good for a show full of teenagers. I realize that the idea is a little unbelievable, but I watch TV to escape reality so I don't think it's a big deal. I really hope that they continue to make new episodes of RFR since it is better than 99% of the other garbage on TV today.
Freaks and Geeks (1999)
Perfect
Freaks and Geeks was definitely one of the best shows to ever be on television. I am a child of the 80's (graduated high school in 1990) and it did a great job of portraying what it was like growing up in that decade. It was an awesome cast with very believable characters. I really wish they would release this on DVD. It deserves to live on so that others can enjoy it as much as I did.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Awesome!
What the heck are some these reviewers watching? First off, they complain about the acting. Granted, some of the lines seem a bit stiff, but overall the acting is better than any of the other Star Wars movies (Do they remember Mark Hamill?). Hayden Christiansen did a great job. He was able to show the transformation to the dark side extremely well. It is obvious that he was definitely the right person for the job.
Many complained about the slow parts of the movie. However, these parts are necessary to the overall story. What did some people want, Anakin and Padme to get drunk, screw, and have twins? They had to spend some time developing the love part of the story. If nothing else, it gave women the chance to gawk at Hayden and men time to gawk at Natalie.
I have seen this movie three times and of the five Star Wars movies, I would have it tied with New Hope for 2nd (behind Empire Strikes Back). It is a great movie, with great action, and it makes me wish 2005 would get here soon so I can see the next one.
Life as a House (2001)
Great movie that I highly recommend!
I watched this movie for one reason, to see the next Anakin. I walked away deeply moved and very reflective of my own life. What more could a person want from a movie?
The performances are all superb, especially Hayden Christensen. He was incredible. He really should have been up for an Oscar for this one. One of the cricisms on this site is that his character, Sam, is portrayed as a bad kid when he has make-up on and he suddenly loses the makeup and is good. First off, this is a two hour movie that does not have the time to show how long an actually transformation like this would occur. Another thing is that this is what often happens, and I know from experience. Often as kid I would dress up "weird" because I felt insecure and didn't really like myself. As I became a more confident person, I lost my desire to stick out. This was the same transformation that I saw in Sam. I realize that this is not always the case, but it is many times.
Anyways, if you like movies that tug at your emotions and make you think, this movie is perfect for that (along with another Kevin Kline movie, "Grand Canyon")
Higher Ground (2000)
Great show that will be missed!
First off, I would like to preface this by saying that I am a male that is probably twice the age of the average person that watched this show. That being said, I absolutely love(d) this show. My niece bought the shows off of e-bay and told me to watch the tapes, being that I am a high school teacher she thought I might like it. She was right. I thought the acting was outstanding and the stories very touching. I often see kids with many of the same attitudes/feelings and I can relate to some of the kids based on feelings that I had and currently have, although not quite to the extent of the characters on the show.
This show helps make me want to be a better teacher to all my kids, especially the ones that seem troubled. I have never seen a show that has made an impact like that on my career, and for that I am thankful. It's really too bad that with all the crap on television now days that a show that is inspirational in a positive way falls through the cracks.
