The Scorpion King (2002)
A good movie.
The Scorpion King is a memorable movie to say the least. It has a very unique storyline that you can stay interested in throughout the movie. Strong performances from The Rock, Kelly Hu, Michael Clark Duncan, and Grant Heslov make this movie even more enjoyable. It's really hard not to give this movie a pretty good rating because, hey it's pretty good. Overall 6.2 stars out of 10.
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
Starts out slow than gets going good.
The Count of Monte Cristo was a book I always told myself I wanted to read but haven't got around to it. I was ready to give a negative review based on what happened in the beginning but that's when everything started tying together and the movie gets real interesting. In fact after (Spoiler): Edmund gets sent to Chateau d'lf the movie never really loses your interest. Overall this movie probably deserves 6.6 stars. Pretty good movie.
Collateral Damage (2002)
Pretty good.
Arnold is once again cast in his typical role (as an action star of course). This movie though is a quality film. It has got some real interesting points and has some good special effects. This movie has got some good action, good acting, and overall it probably deserves 6.4 *'s out of 10 *'s. The only reason really not to give this movie a shot is if you flinch during graphic violence scenes and such. If so stay away because you'll get squeamish during some moments. Give it chance, you may like it.
The Fast and the Furious (2001)
Ok.
The Fast and the Furious has got one thing going for it that really sets it a part. It has got some of the best car stunts I've ever seen in the movies. I mean some of the stunts simply blow your mind. This movie besides that didn't impress me all too much, sure it had some very good looking ladies in it and they did a fairly good job acting as well as Ted Levine, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and the others did. All in all it wasn't terrible but it wasn't even close to being great. 5.8 *'s out of 10 *'s.
The Majestic (2001)
Underrated.
The Majestic was definitely an underrated movie. Jim Carrey really shows that he can do more than comedy and he puts an exclamation point on that statement with his great dramatic performace in "The Majestic". It really is just a great movie that also has some good performances by some lesser known actors & actresses. The plot line also makes this an interesting film and many other aspects improve it even more. Go out and see it!
The Lion King (1994)
One of the best Disney films that can be enjoyed by both young and old.
Lion King has got to be one of the better movies that Disney has put out in all time. It has many well known voice talents and is just a great piece of work. No matter what the age most people who see this movie will like it and want to see it again because it is just so well made. 7 *'s out of 10 *'s.
Black Hawk Down (2001)
Real good.
Black Hawk Down was a real good job well done. It was better in many other ways than Bruckheimer's previous work "Pearl Harbor". First this movie I think accurating captures the realism of how tragic this situation was. I also think this movie as some great acting that helps boost this. This has to be one of the better movies Bruckheimer has put out (compared to Armageddon & Pearl Harbor). This movie in my rating system deserves 7 *'s out of 10 *'s.
Executive Decision (1996)
Average.
The movie Executive Decision in no way deserves loads of accolades. It simply wasn't that good. But a small amount would be a better fit. This movie does have an interesting plot and seems very like something Tom Clancy would put out. Overall this movie is pretty good some good action, with some good realism especially with some of the stuff that occurs on the plane. Some of that is extraordinary in my opinion. The acting is pretty good and the crew working the film did pretty well. Overall 5.9 *'s out of 10 *'s.
Clear and Present Danger (1994)
A good thriller.
Clear and Present Danger is part of the continuing chronicles of the life of CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford).(spoilers) It follows how the government starts a war against the drug cartels in Colombia. The only catch is the Colombian government doesn't know about it. This movie is better than I've reviewed it and it has lots of action. Though don't expect a lot similarities between it and the book it has a lot but not all of them. 6 *'s out of 10 *'s.
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Sheer Brilliance.
This movie starts out slow then turns WAY WAY WAY better. This movie has more twist and turns in it than Lombard Street in San Francisco. Ron Howard did a superb job in directing this film. It is even more brilliant considering that this story was true. One of the few problems this movie had was earlier on when John Nash (Russell Crowe) was talking low and rapidly, which he did a lot of, it is extremly hard to understand. This movie was great in almost every way. Kudos to the entire crew on the job well done. This story is about Nash who is a genius who starts suffering from schizophrenia and how he must survive his life with visions and delusions haunting him.
Shallow Hal (2001)
Another piece of good work by the Farrelly brothers.
Hal Larson (Jack Black) is a guy who's having trouble finding women. Though it doesn't help that he's set standards as having the women be looking by Britney Spears,etc.,etc. His friend Mauricio (Jason Alexander a/k/a George Costanza) also is having trouble with women because if they have one thing wrong with them he'll break it off. When Hal gets stuck in an elevator with self-help guru Tony Robbins (played by himself) he tells him about his trouble getting women. Tony tells him he will only be able to see the innerbeauty in women. So Hal is seeing knockouts left & right. This is a hilarious movie. 6 1/2 *'s.
The Munsters (1964)
Great fun.
The Munsters is about a group of friendly monster like people and their normal cousin Marilyn. The series was hilarious and remains that way every time it airs. This show is in ways so unique that you cannot help but just laugh. Unfortunately it only aired for a little while so each episode is ever more valuable. Everything about this show was good. Everyone who hasn't seen it should because they'll become instantly attached to it.
John Q (2002)
Rock solid.
John Q was a solid movie. Denzel Washington, James Woods, Anne Heche,Ray Liotta, and Robert Duvall deliver some real good performances. John Q is about a regular blue collar worker named John Quincy Archibald.(very minor spoilers) When suddenly his son collapses at a baseball game. After the doctors observe his son it is discovered he has an irregular heart condition. Which requires a special surgery that is not covered by his company's insurance plan. So he must find a way to get his son the surgery. All and all it wasn't wonderful but it was pretty good.
Major Payne (1995)
Funny.
VERY MINOR SPOILERS
Major Payne is the story of a Major (Wayans) who is discharged from the Marines. He doesn't adjust that well to civilian life. But then his commanding officer gets him a job as leading Madison Prepatory School's ROTC program. It is interesting to see how he adjusts to life having to be sensitive after previously living a life that required none. It is a real funny movie and all the cast does a good job.
Hart's War (2002)
Fair, but not great.
Hart's War was a fairly good film. It had an entertaining plot even though some of the changes from the book weren't good but the majority of them were. Hart's War contains some real good surprises and some good special effects also. Overall I'd have to say that this movie is probably a 6 *'s out of 10 *'s.
What Lies Beneath (2000)
Hitchcock would be proud.
This movie for a while appeared to be just your average run of the mill film. In fact for a while watching it I was quite bored. BUT then the great action started. I think if Alfred Hitchcock would be alive and he were to watch this film he would thoroughly impressed. Rob Zemeckis, Harrison Ford, & Michelle Pfieffer deliver!!
Atomic Train (1999)
Unfortunately Special Effects kill movie that has decent plot.
Atomic Train I think has a fairly decent plot and it is interesting to watch. But the special effects in the movie are terrible. I mean on a scale of 1-10 these are about a 1 1/2. The movie does have some good actors and actresses but that and the plot in no way could save the movie from being a dud.
Orange County (2002)
Good job.
This movie is of course is set in Orange County, CA. It follows Shaun Brumder (Colin Hanks, yes he's Tom's son). Shaun feels he would be content to spend his whole life in Orange County just surfing. When he discovers a book in the sand he suddenly becomes engrossed in it reading it repeatedly. He then starts writing and becomes obsessed with it. And the writer of the book he loved Marcus Skinner becomes his literary hero. He then decides he must get into Stanford to study under Skinner(Kevin Kline). When his guidance counselor sends in the wrong transcript he is shocklingly rejected from Stanford. Then with the help of his brother who constanly does drugs (Jack Black) and girlfriend (Schuyler Fisk) he must try to get into Stanford. Not helping are his constantly drunk mother (Catherine O'Hara) and very conceited father who is divorced from his mother (John Lithgow). It is hilarious and everyone does a great job in it.
The Mothman Prophecies (2002)
Scary.
This movie is actually based on events that occured in a small WV town named Point Pleasant. In the story a Washington Post reporter Jon Klein (Gere) VERY mysteriously finds him attracted to a small town miles & miles off of the route which he was taking to a different town. He encounters people in the town who have very strange encounters w/ a mysterious person/thing. And these people aren't your run of the mill crazy people but normal people encountering extraordinary things. This is a very good movie and it is Scary.
Ocean's Eleven (2001)
Good job.
Danny Ocean recently released from prison plans to rob a string of Las Vegas casinos with 11 associates. This movie has an outstanding plot and cast. This movie is very well made. Overall this movie probably deserves 8 1/2 *'s out of 10 *'s.
Behind Enemy Lines (2001)
Action packed, thrill ride.
May contain spoiler.
Owen Wilson plays Lt. Chris Burnett a Navy Navigator on planes w/ his pilot Stackhouse (Gabriel Macht) based on an aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson commanded by Leslie Reigart (Gene Hackman). He originally showed loads of promise but began to slip off. When Stackhouse & Burnett are forced to fly a recon mission. But when they broke off of the assigned route they recon some things that they were not to see in the DMZ (De-Militarized Zone). They are then shot down in this sequence of time a very exciting scene goes through. Then (t)he(y) must evade capture by the Serbs. It has tons of action and some surprises. All and all a pretty good movie.
Spider-Man (2002)
A real good job.
Toby Maguire plays a high school nerd who while visiting a labratory on a school trip is bitten by a genetically enhanced spider. He soon discovers changes in himself but one thing remains constant his crush on Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). When he soon starts using his powers to help people he gets crowned the name Spiderman. Though there is disputes over if he is really "A good guy". It is eventually decided he is. I think it is a well done movie.
October Sky (1999)
Liked it.
In October Sky the life of Homer Hickam and his friends (not all characters in the movie were actually Homer's friends) in Coalwood, WV a town that as the name suggests primarily mines coal. During the time that the story takes place the Russians launch Sputnik and Homer suddenly becomes engrossed with rocketry and such. His friends reluctantly help him with doing things with his hobby. Along the way Homer and his friends must overcome people in town who believe they're lunatics and Homer must overcome his gruff father who shows no proud in Homer but centers it on his brother Jim a football star. It is an incredible story about overcoming some fierce odds. Some good acting also helps the film. It was a good film.
Shrek (2001)
Quite funny.
May contain spoiler.
Shrek is a movie that is a rare gem. It features many parodies of well known fairy tales and some fairy tale creatures itself. In the process it is hilarious. In this story a reclusive ogre named Shrek meets with a donkey who is just referred to as "Donkey". Donkey talks Shrek into staying with him for a night then that night fairy tale creatures are dumped into Shrek's swamp. He then goes on a quest to see Lord Farquad to give him his swamp back. BUT he must do something for Farquad first. With superb animation and the voice talents of Cameron Diaz, Mike Myers, John Lithgow, and Eddie Murphy this movie is just plain fun!
RocketMan (1997)
OMG, THIS WAS HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!
No matter what your age you'll very likely LOVE this great movie. The movie NEVER runs out of funny parts to surprise you. This film would be great to see if you wanted a movie that would be good for your whole family to see. Or only if you just wanted to see a funny movie this is it. Fred Z. Randall is such a unique and funny character he makes it worth it to see just by himself. And the movie contains a monkey who does a great job in it. See this movie, You'll love it!
