Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015)
Dreadful
Having read the synopsis of this show I was really excited to watch it. A show has to be pretty bad for me to not even have it running in the background whilst doing the ironing. But I switched it off after two episodes.
The story is so one dimensional - girl moves to a new city to shake things up and be close to an ex boyfriend. That's pretty much it. I have no idea how they'll be able to drag this story for.
There is absolutely nothing likable about any of the characters. The main character especially is just horrid, self-absorbed, selfish and dull. It's sad when a show portrays women as only interested in finding man. And that's pretty much what this is. At least Ally McBeal had brilliant sub-stories.
Her co-stars are equally dull and one-dimensional. The musical element is a great idea but you kinda get the feeling it's only there because the writers have nothing else to do with the story.
In short, it's a great idea but very poorly executed. The acting is excruciating, no character development and the writers seem bored.
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
Loved it despite having no idea what the plot was about
Painful dialogue? Yes. Flag waving gun toting patriotism? Yes. Nonsensical plot? Yes. 3 hours long? Yes. Cringeworthy humour? Yes. Written by a 5-year old on cocaine? Yes. Token sexy girl in tiny shorts? Yes. Magically being able to drive from Beijing to Hong Kong in a couple of hours? Yes....
...Enough explosions, violence, graphics, cool cars, destruction, flying things and Stanley Tucci that I'll see it 10 more times in my PJs with a cup of tea, a smile on my face and a feeling of total fulfilment? Yes!!!!!!
I honestly have no idea what this movie was about, nor do I know who was doing what and why. However, I was thoroughly entertained throughout. I call it a guilty pleasure movie.
The Anomaly (2014)
Sat down, 20 minutes later stood up, and left
With two hours to kill until meeting a friend, I decided to catch this film. Granted I didn't read any reviews nor did I know what the movie was about. But hey it was starting in 5 minutes and Ian Somerhalder was on the advert so I assumed he was the lead....I was wrong....
Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
10 minutes into the film I realised it wasn't a comical parody of a sci-fi movie. Nope...this was actually a serious film. Assuming this was a low budget film, I can completely accept the low- budget special effects. I really can. Harder to forgive however is the acting, nonsensical plot (assuming there was one) total lack of direction and the use of every stereotype in the book (kind but troubled prostitute, Russian gangsters, cute kid with messy hair, etc). And this was only the first 20 minutes!
But the acting...oh the acting. The half of the audience that hadn't left were trying to contain their laughter. The hero of the film genuinely looked confused and I assumed it was because likely he had no idea what was going on during the shoot. Until I got home, looked up the credits and realised he directed the thing!
Rarely is a film so bad that I have to walk out. In fact I think it has only happened twice in my almost 40 years. However, 20 minutes into it I vividly recall telling myself - life is just too short, before leaving. Sadly this was just as Ian Somerhalder made a proper appearance but by then I had given up. I can only hope he managed to salvage something of the film - but my hunch tells me otherwise.
A View to a Kill (1985)
Ummm..."James! James! I'm a poor helpless women trapped in a burning building". Utter tosh
I'm a Bond fan and probably will always be...unless they make another like Die Another Day which was the worst Bond ever. AVTAK comes close to being the worst ever Bond. It is only spared this indignity because its over-the-topism is to over the top making is funny. I'm sure the makers didn't intend for this to be the case.
Walken and Jones are AMAZING. Walken is pretty great in whatever her does but to be able to make it through filming this s**t without quitting is quite an achievement. Jones is pretty territying until the end when she becomes good...which kinda was a let down.
Moore is a good actor and deserves more than this. However he should have known when to quit. The sight of his wrinkled flesh in bed with whoever he was in bed with really but me off my fantasy to become Bond.
And finally Roberts! Oh Ms Roberts. You are stunning, and leggy and pretty much set the womens movement back a few decades by needing a 60 year old man to carry you down a building all the while screaming his name. I really want to like this actress after all she was great in That 70s Show. Admitedly I haven't seen any of her other movies but if this isn't the worst of her movies then its no wonder why she isn't an A list celeb. Granted it takes mostly good looks to make it as an A List but you do need a certain degree of talent for the most part. Please please please get some acting lessons, a decent script and make me proud.
Other than all this AVTAK isn't the worst Bond but its far from the Best. For that one needs only look at Goldeneye.
The Guru (2002)
Ummmm
Well so its not at all on par with the likes of East is East or Bend It Like Beckham. What it lacks in substance it makes up for with pure American glamour. The movie is simply light entertainment. Sometimes you simply want to switch off and watch a movie which doesn't need brainpower.
The Guru is simply that, just watch, don't question, and get caught up in the whole Heather Graham dancing to Bollywood. The jokes were too far apart thus I wasn't in hysterics. Jimmi Mistry was a good actor but the accent was terrible. Like I'm I'm a British-Indian and cannot do the Indian accent any justice.
What I was surprised with was that the movie has Heather Graham, Marissa tomei, and Christine Baranski and yet none of my friends in the US even knew about the movie...I'm not sure why.
As for me...I'm going to watch Bend It Like Beckham again...laugh a minute.
On the Line (2001)
Oh my word
Oh my god. I have seen some pretty terrible movies in my time but this one takes the biscuit. The reason I watched it was because I happened to come across it in IMDB and the comments were positive. But please...if anyone is reading this thinking whether to watch it or not....save yourselves now.
The story is actually really interesting. However why the directors chose to put pop bad members in the cast is beyond me. The only good thing about it was the lead actress. I hope she does well because having starred in this movie she deserves some compensation.
And who was that guy with the baseball cap? Why was he pretending to be black? I didn't get it.
Anyway, thank god this movie didn't make it to the UK...had it done so I'm sure there would have been riots.
