100 Feet (2008)
Best ghost movie I've seen in a long while.
Marnie Watson (the lovely Famke Janssen well known for her role in The X-Men movies)is convicted of murdering her husband and sentenced to house arrest after time served. Under these terms, she mustn't breach the 100 foot perimeter of the devise placed in her home connected to her via ankle bracelet or she will be sent back to prison for another 10 years. Her late husband's old partner "Shanks" (Bobby Cannavale) is determined to see her punished to the full extent of the law for her crime, standing guard at her home awaiting any slip-up he could use to send her back to prison.
Marnie herself was the victim. She was brutally beaten by her husband and repeatedly filed reports that went unanswered. In fear of her own life, she takes matters in her own hands and stabs her husband to death.
Upon returning to her home, Marnie experiences strange goings-on that builds to climatic proportions in this wonderful ghost story. Marnie starts to realize you can't keep a bad man down.
Truly one of the best ghost stories I've seen in a long time. Give it a try and you won't be sorry.
Step Brothers (2008)
If you don't laugh during this movie then you need to Lighten Up!
This movie was just plain fun. Yeah it was crude, but, we live in a crude world. The intent of this movie (at least what I got from it) was to take all that crudeness and have a youthful blast with it.
I'll go ahead and tell ya now, if you are the type of person that can't sit through a movie without hearing every obscenity and cringing then this movie is not for you. The humor is a raw and unforgiving free-for-all for the entire film and I loved every minute of it. Did EVERY joke land on the mark? No. But I've always said, "If you're watchin' a movie by yourself and it makes you laugh out loud then you know it's funny." Well, I watched this movie by myself and snorted several times. If that makes me crude with a juvenile mentality then so be it. I wouldn't have it any other way.
If you are 17 and not a prude buy a ticket, kick back, and be prepared to snort.
The Hottie & the Nottie (2008)
Absurd rating on this......
The reason and only reason I watched this is because of the terrible rating it got. I had to see what all the fuss was about. I thought Paris Hilton must really be making a fool of herself so I had to see if it was really that bad. Keep in mind I'm not a huge fan either, but her personal life is none of my business. Done my fair share of partying myself.
I don't think I could've have been more surprised. This was a great little romantic comedy! That's not my favorite genre either but I give credit where it's due.
The fact that people hate Paris Hilton so much that they would come on here just to vote down this movie is more than a shame, it's criminal. There is NOWAY all these people watched this and hated it.
Do yourself a favor if you like romantic comedies and WATCH THIS!!! COMPLETELY IGNORE THE RATING...................................
P.S. Never really thought Paris was all that myself, but she did GREAT and looked fabulous doing it. She produced this gem too.
Gutterballs (2008)
I made it through the whole thing.
I watched this purely based on the score this film got here. Every time I do that it seems I end up sorry. But, this time I'm at odds with myself. The reason this got a five from me and the ONLY reason was the outrageous factor the film had. All the comments based on that are not exaggerated. It was definitely over the top. If you think you might wanna watch this film, make sure you are doing so for the gore/shock factor alone. Do not watch this if you can't handle bad acting. I barely got through it because of that, but I'll admit...the gore kept me going. Never in my life have I seen a film that I wanted everyone to die in so badly, and I do mean EVERYONE. I don't think I've ever hated a whole cast like I have in this my entire life. It's undeniable that there are some very cool things that happen in this movie, although admitting that about myself is kind of disturbing.
Things to hate:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
1. Steve.....If I were on the set I'd have killed him myself.
2. The film didn't know what decade it was in. I think it was trying for late 80's considering the dress (the whole punks vs. preps thing) but the technology didn't fit, i.e. electronic scoreboard (they used projectors back then), siliconed teen (think they waited a little longer to get that procedure), and the only cell phone back then was the 10 pound Zack Morris job.
3. The acting.....The reactions these people had with what was happening to them was ludicrous.
4. The dialog.....If you cut the unnecessary f-bombs out of this film you may be left with 4 complete sentences. The fact that this disturbs ME (got a hum-dinger of a doo-doo mouth myself sometimes) says a lot.
.............................and finally..............................
5. Someone survived.
Sight (2008)
Colliage of Bad Dreams
O.K., just saw this and thought I'd say a little something while it was fresh since there's no other comments. This is low-budget film backed by Lion's Gate Entertainment. I admit that was the main reason I watched it. Usually I'd put my money on those guys. It paid off well enough. First let me say, if you don't like those youtube videos where you are staring at something harmless like an empty room and after a few moments goes by all of a sudden there's a high pitched squeal from a demon lady ogling you then DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE. Chances are you are gonna jump a few times during this. The colors of the film itself are the wash-outed look of "The Matrix" movies (when its not in a black and white dreamscape) and in my opinion work really well. Other than that there isn't much more that I can say about my opinion other than I was entertained. Some of the acting from secondary characters left much to be desired (including the young Dana, the old Dana was o.k.), you'll know when you see. I'm not gonna harp or rave every detail but the film did work, holes and all. The dreams got a little confusing sometimes and I felt I wasn't sure what did happen in real time by comparison but, the film stayed interesting if not riveting from start to finish. The rest contain spoilers...
The story revolves around and is seen through the eyes of a young man named Jeffery. At an early age Jeffery saw things, dead people, that nobody else could. His father, who hasn't been right since he lost Jeffery's mother during childbirth, ruefully disbelieves him when Jeffery tells him he has seen his mother and has him committed to a mental hospital.
Years later, Jeffery finds out that his father has committed suicide and when he is released stays clear of his house. One night he bumps into a girl(Dana) right after he has "seen" a dead person in an alley who seems "see" her also. They talk for awhile over coffer until Dana has to go with the request Jeffery help her the next night deliver food to the elderly. Jeffery shows up and meets Paul whom he assumes is Dana's boyfriend who drives them both to their delivery points. Paul doesn't like Jeffery from word go and tells him to stay away from Dana. Later that night a distressed Dana calls Jeffery and asks him to pick her up because Paul had been "drinking and acting weird". She asked if she could stay at his place and Jeffery agreed, she could have the bedroom he'd stay on the couch. Jeffery awakens to a crash and Paul coming at him with a baseball bat. Paul puts him in a coma for almost a year and a half.
Jeffery must figure out what happened to him and why. Who is Dana? Who is Paul and why did he try to kill me? With nightmares and spooks behind every closet door, this was a pretty fun low-budget film.
Live! (2007)
Just finished watching.......man..oh..man
This movie probably would only get a 7 or 8 from me to tell the truth if I had seen trailers or had any kind of knowledge of what the film is all about. Since it was virtually all a surprise it was almost a perfect piece of edgy entertainment that gets a strong 9 from me.
I read through some of the comments briefly and saw that someone else had almost the same experience as me and he advised to just watch it. It was good advice. Read the rest at your own risk of spoiling.
Eva Mendez plays a head-strong, success-starved network TV programmer that took a joke made by a co-worker while brain-storming TV program ideas about Russian Roulette seriously. The story follows her in a documentary style on her pursuit to make this happen.
Deal (2008)
Not in the realm of that bad.
Okay, so this is my first shot at this. I was compelled to write because of all the abuse this video is taking. It's not that bad. Actually I enjoyed it. Especially the ending which was a Great One by the way. And also about the comment that poker fans would not like it, actually I think the contrary would be true for the simple fact it IS about POKER and all most nothing else (although Shannon Elizabeth adds a little spice to it). No, other than Burt, there is no actor in this well known to be outstanding but there doesn't need to be. No, it is not Rounders and the comparison wasn't, I don't think, a very good choice. If you want a comparison on how the movie is set up it more closely follows "The Color of Money" as pupil and teacher going off to the big tourney. Anyway, I think poker fans will love it, if for no other reason you get to see almost every big name poker pro in the biz be in a movie. Regardless, you'll LOVE the ending.
