R.U.U. (2004)
Awe, man, brilliant!
Awe, man, brilliant! And I ain't one of your friends. (Not that I wouldn't be, we just never met; just a fan.) Saw this Film this weekend at the New York International Independent Film Festival. Really good, creepy and fun.
Excellent reflection of modern self help groups with homage to Elmer Gantry. A funny look at the modern industry of self improvement from those funny guys we see on TV.
As so often is the case, a short, such as this one, can often shine more than a feature.
And I can't wait till I make a million from my One Bedroom Apartment. I'm ready to Spark it up!
Team America: World Police (2004)
Not even worth renting...
Tonight I saw the new movie from the South Park guys, "Team America". I saw it at the cool Chinese Theatre, in Hollywood California! (baby!) I had a great day with my friends and was looking forward to some good laughs. BUT! It wasn't all that funny, and really mean spirited and sad. They mostly just tried to lambaste people they don't like, and it didn't go very far with characters or funny stuff. It makes them look like whiny losers and big pu$$ys. The South Park movie and TV show is hilarious, as it has good funny characters. It was hard to believe that the same people made it. I wouldn't even bother renting the movie, and it's not bad enough to be funny.
Honestly, I started to fall asleep.
Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)
It ain't leftist at all!
I thought this movie would be a over zealous slant against bush, but it's a middle slight to the left film. It just shows him doing what he does, and catching him at a number of lies. Moore does what journalist are supposed to do - report events!
It was a whole lot funnier than I thought. It think it's so important every US citizen see how we have abandoned our own dead and wounded solders. (Where's their movies and news updates?) Also, the news tells us were only hitting civilians, but when they are holding a dead child one get's a better sense of the brutality that is this war.
Anyway, I strongly encourage everyone who will ever vote to see this movie.
Van Helsing (2004)
Made me miss Buffy
I found myself missing Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
O.K., so the acting's not as good as Buffy, nor the action sequences, definably not the fight sequences and don't even think about characters.
But there were one or two really mediocre episodes of Buffy that were like 'Van Helsing'.
But some of the digital visual effects were better, and for like 100+ million more, one would expect that.
I sort of knew it was going to be rather flat, as they had 10 Billion commercials for it. More commercial = bad movie (try to make a big $$ the first weekend.)
Sorry to say, but the Mummy was better, probably not the Scorpion King.
It made me really miss Buffy, and hope the do another movie or two.
