Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
What's not to love?
If you are a fan of Indian Jones movies, you will not be disappointed. Personally for me, its tough to beat the original but this is a close second for me in the entire franchise. This will take you back to old school Indiana Jones movies and in a good way. A great storyline and the CGI incorporated, especially on Harrison Ford himself, was excellent and worked.
The movie from start to finish kept us entertained and at the edge of our seats. There were no boring parts in this film and we loved the iconic chase scenes everyone has grown to love over the years. The supporting cast was excellent, especially Phoebe Waller-Bridge and. Ethann Isidore. I honestly can't imagine someone not liking this film, especially if they loved at least one of the Indiana Jones films in the past. Go enjoy!
Having It All (1982)
This is an amazing comedy with an outstanding cast
I simply can't understand the 5.3 average IMDB rating. I think it should be so much higher. Yes, it is an early 80's movie and dated, but the comedy and outstanding cast more than makes up for it. For a made-for-TV movie that debuted in Oct 1982 on ABC, I think it is very well done. Dyan Cannon is the epitome of comedy and she has such an infectious laugh in the movie. I also think they do a really good job of character development, especially her relationship with actor Barry Newman. They have really good chemistry in the show. There are so many comedic moments that will keep you in stitches, especially the airport scenes. There are however, very endearing scenes where the movie takes pauses on important moments. The movie flows really well, yet doesn't feel rushed or too slow. It truly is one of my favorite feel good movies. If you haven't seen the film, stream it and give it a try!
Bros (2022)
Yet another film that plays on every negative stereotype of gay men
I find movies like this extremely disappointing as they showcase gay men as nothing more than bitchy, negative attitude queens that sleep around like animals. Once again absolutely no substance. Will there ever be a comedy or other movie otherwise that will show gay men capable of monogamy and shown in a positive light?
There were positive, affirming messages in the movie however. It is nice to see support for the LGBTQ community and some of the supporting characters were very funny.
The lead actor was terrible in my opinion. His acting was sub par and his character had an ugly personality, who was very negative all the time. What's not to love?
Dark Waters (2019)
A story that needed to be told...but in a documentary not an entertaining film
Be prepared to take a Xanax as it is a highly depressing movie. Yes, the story needs to be told and what Dupont did, but I was not entertained in the slightest.
Extortion (2017)
About the quality of a made-for-tv show
There were just so many silly parts that didn't make sense or was logical in any way. This continued throughout the entire film that we laughed at the silliness. If you have nothing else to watch, go ahead but be prepared for a very amateurish attempt.
Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
A slap in the face to the original
So poorly done with no respect to the legacy of the original film. Obvious signs of budget cuts everywhere, especially with the ape makeup. Generally in every scene, outside of a handful of apes in the front of the cameras, most apes were done up with cheap ill-fitting rubber masks, poorly constructed costumes etc. To put in bluntly, it was a poorly made film with a very poor budget. Don't waste your time on this one.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Terrible movie
We just watched this film and thought it was a complete trash, waste of our time. Like many other reviewers, it gave me a headache. Sandler did the same thing over and over. It was like watching a continuous loop the same thing all the time. Definitely one fo the worst films I have ever seen. It is a story about nothing. I wouldn't recommend this movie to my worst enemy. There were several times we wanted to stop watching but figured we invested so much time, that we might as well see it through. Don't wast your time seeing this awful film. As you are watching this movie, trust me it doesn't suddenly get better.
I Love Lucy: Lucy Hates to Leave (1957)
I dearly love this series but this episode was the end for me...
There is so much to say, but I will keep it simple. Lucy was great in most of the episodes to this specific episode, with the exception of some random very dumb episodes like the episode when they went to Scotland. After this episode however, the show in my opinion went completely downhill. It was no longer funny. Lucille Ball continued to repeat the same silly gags and over-acting she had always done (like putting her hand in her mouth when she was embarrassed, that terribly cry she did), but it simply just didn't work as she got older. Lucy unfortunately did not age well and her acting just got to be atrocious. This is my opinion, but the episodes beyond this point were embarrassing to watch. Many might disagree with me, but I think it is simply because they adore and are devoted to the series in general. To think she was only 46 years old in this episode is almost staggering. She in my opinion appeared to be more like 65 and at this point in her career I found her acting to be over-the-top and annoying. I think the smoking really caught up with her health and aged her dramatically.
Please don't misunderstand my words, I really love this show and can watch the earlier episodes over and over again. It is what I call comfort shows...sort of like comfort food. But I just think the body of work beyond this episode was so poorly done. If we are basing the show solely on the episodes after this particular show, I don't think this beloved series would remotely be a hit.
The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)
INCREDIBLE . 10 Stars!
I HONESTLY don't know how anyone that likes a good action/suspense movie would ever give this a bad rating. All action movies to an extent have predictable moments, but this movie was extraordinary in every way. The cinematography, the story, the beautiful actors, the exquisite scenes. Listen, I am one that tends to be very critical of films, and I sincerely think this was one of the best action films I have ever seen. Period. I highly recommend.
Hereditary (2018)
Tragically Dumb
This is a very dark and depressing film. Not scary at all...just extremely dark and the family is very depressing. Kind of like spending two hours watching paint dry on the wall. It really gets ridiculously stupid. I really wouldn't waste your time on this one and can't remotely understand anyone that would give this a good review. Now, if you like dark and depressing films, you may love it.
I Love Lucy: The Diet (1951)
A very funny episode, especially the audition
I always loved this episode and the best part is when she went to the club audition and danced in line with the four young girls trying to do the time step. It's hilarious. I loved how the young girls gave her a hard time and the one girl said "Can I give you a tip? I've known Ricky Ricardo for a long time...and you're not his type!"
The only thing I didn't like is how she treated the dog under the table. It was funny, but she tugged at that dog so hard like it was a rag doll. Even though that was a trained dog, you could always easily tell it was a bit frightened and confused. That has always bothered me since I was a little kid,.
The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour: The Ricardos Go to Japan (1959)
I love Lucy Was great...This not so much.
I am a huge I Love Lucy Fan, but the show just progressed to such a terrible show after the original series ended. I was just watching this episode of their Japan visit this evening. I was shocked to find out Lucille Ball was only 48 and even worse Desi was only 42 years old!!! They look SO OLD in this show. Minimally, I thought Lucy and Desi were both very close to 60 or even older. I would say neither of them aged well at all! I am sure all their smoking didn't help. I was very shocked!
Game Night (2018)
Don't listen to some of these bad reviews...it was a pretty good comedy
To be honest, it's not an academy award film but it's much better than what some reviewers wrote. I won't say much, but I thought the casting was good and it was a silly, corn-ball type of movie that you're onviously not dgoing to take too seriously. I thought the actor who played the police officer was the highlight of the movie.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Disappointed
I can only preface that I am a huge Star Wars fan, but this film fell very flat. I felt there was very little dialogue and many periods in the film that were rather slow and boring, My friend and I nearly fell asleep!
Without the nostalgia involved, we asked ourselves if we would like this film if we had never had anything to base it on and it was a resounding no. I am giving it a 5 for average just because I love Star Wars but that is the only reason I am afraid.
Also, we felt there was no character development at all, which was very sad.
Fast & Furious 7 (2015)
Why would anyone want to willingly watch this garbage?
Never have I seen a single movie of this series and was encouraged by many that this was a great "action" flick. We don't even need to discuss the unrealistic action scenes, but the acting was atrocious. How do these people become movie stars? I have seen better acting in video games. The writing was beyond hideous. Atrocious, atrocious movie. Anyone with half a brain cell wouldn't like this film. I can honestly say that I have never seen a film that makes you feel that your IQ goes down every minute you watch this film. This is the type of garbage that is produced that makes me feel embarrassed that it was created in the United States. The dialog in this film is probably at the third grade level and someone of normal Intelligence could have written the story in about 2 hours.
Insurgent (2015)
Horribly done. Make-up artists should be fired
How can you honestly take a movie seriously, when the makeup is always flawless. The lead actress who cuts her hair with pruning shears and then ends up with a $500 haircut with highlights and lowlights? Her makeup always perfect after every battle. I mean, she really is going to have full makeup, eyeliner, eye shadow, blush etc. Is a war zone?
I mean I understand that they want the main actress to be beautiful but how can you even remotely take a film seriously like this? At least in the hunger games, they didn't have to have Jennifer Lawrence in obvious full make up during the fight scenes, yet she still looked beautiful.
I won't even get into how boring the movie was because what I just stated were very obvious poor decision mistakes. A typical "teen" show in my opinion. Sad.
Into the Woods (2014)
Can I have a refund?
This movie was a real downer for me. To be fair, I didn't realize this was a Broadway show, but the singing was horrible and the story was beyond strange at the end. I truly believe people that are giving this a high rating have fallen into the a-list actor trap with people like Meryl Streep involved in this trash of a film. If you enjoy sitting, listening, and watching actors lip sync on the screen the entire movie, then it will meet your expectations. I am flabbergasted that some people thought this film was good. To me, it really reminded me of a quick filler made-for-TV holiday show that was terrible from the star P&T to the very finish. We couldn't wait to get out of the theater to be honest.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
What a horrible film!
You're kidding right? This must be one gigantic colossal joke. So many holes in this film to list. For one, the city of San Francisco would not deteriorate like that within 10 years. This was absolutely ridiculous. It looked like a gigantic apocalypse had taken place. The humans also stated they had power for a while with generators etc. they never bothered to venture out of the city to see if there were other survivors? Caesar and the other apes could barely get out the word NO in the beginning of the film and towards the end, Caesar was making full sentences. He also healed over night after Keri Russell operated on him. It was such a joke. The acting was horrible. No character development whatsoever. I felt like I was watching one of the weakest episodes of The Walking Dead or some other made for TV movie. Everyone keeps saying the CGI was great...that's the problem...you never really get the full facial expressions and everything doesn't quite look realistic. Why all the ammunition where the human survivors were? Why after 10 years is the environment where the humans still look like complete trash and destruction with garbage and other things all over. Can these people not clean up after themselves? I also love the fact that after 10 years they decide to go to the dam to try and get power. First, that was one small dam that apparently brought power to the whole city. Second, it only took like 5 people one day to fix the dam...such a joke. My thoughts are random right now as there was nothing realistic about this movie or made sense whatsoever. When they went back to Caesar's old house...the house looked like 1000 years had passes...dirt all over the walls etc....but the camcorder went right back on with no worries...yet everything was so eroded everywhere else...but things like that, the laptop, the ipad...instantly came on with no problems...the power does, the batteries...nothing had eroded...yet the outside buildings, inside the buildings looked like it had been through a nuclear war. I also had to laugh when they went to Caesar's house and there were house plants that still looked very healthy in their pits on the porch...after all those years and also on a covered porch. Wonder what kind of miracle grow they used? These people don't bother to go to the dam for over 10 years...then decide to go...Caesar and his army come back to their city and say leave us alone...yet they immediately go back. I could go on and on. At least with the original movie, time travel was easier to swallow than a virus that kills people and within 10 years , all the cities him the world have eroded to nothing. Honestly, there was no actor standout. I have seen better acting on Lifetime made for TV movies. Here is another thing I remembered...San Francisco makes contact with a military base that was going to come down at the end of the movie. This military base never bothered to go to a major city like San Francisco to see if there were survivors? People can live without power...and there looked to be like many vacant houses all over San Francisco where people could live...yet they all gathered in this underground like city world that looked all destroyed. I think this movie made a mockery of the original 1968 movie.
Gravity (2013)
Absolutely Horrible and Ridiculous Movie
I cannot even comprehend how people are writing positive reviews of this film! I was with an entire group of people and we all laughed on how ridiculous it was. I love how she propelled herself to the Chinese Satellite with a fire extinguisher LOL. So unbelievable.
Initially I was excited about this film and listened to the people involved in the film in how it took 5 years to develop the technology to do this film. I honestly didn't see anything special.
How can someone praise Sandra Bullocks acting in this film...there was none. She looked ridiculous coming out of the spacesuit with bare feet as they tried to show her sexy body glide through the satellite .... Would someone like her bother with face and eye makeup on a mission? I think not...and yet her makeup stayed flawless throughout the whole movie LOL. Sigourney Weaver in Aliens makes Bullock look like an amateur.
This movie has been done before....and it was called OPEN WATER....and it was a lot better...more believable and far superior acting. This movie doesn't deserve the Hype it is getting.
The Hunger Games (2012)
I read the book and this was a fantastic film!
Unlike some of the reviewers that read the book and were unhappy with the film adaptation, I felt the movie did the book great justice. You can't expect the film to be exactly like the book and if they included everything in the book it would end up being a 5 hour film. Having read the book, I can tell you that some of the things that were omitted from the book were mainly due to having to keep the film at an acceptable length. The film even got the thumbs up from the author herself, which I think says a lot right there. I thought all the actors did a fantastic job....especially the wonderful Jennifer Lawrence. She is a rising star and for good reason. For a film that is over 2 hours, you will find that it flows easily and keeps your attention. I know many people that have already seen it 2 or 3 times. I strongly recommend this film!
