Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two (2023)
Spoof of Chola period
First things first.....I haven't read the book.
The movie being made based on the Kalki's novel Ponniyin Selvan. Director Manirathnam should have first of all given a genuine thought is this my genre.
The script looked half cooked, it surely doesn't look like an epic movie, the background music is too blunt, loosely based on Pirates of the caribbean. C'mon Rehman, this epic was surely a big challenge for the genius in you.
And not to forget the murder of the sanga Tamil during chola empire, the least they could've done is this. One can very easily find the traces of chennai Tamil very often.
No doubt Manirathnam is a legend. He might be a great cook but he has his area of expertise. Let's say he's an expert cook in veg cuisines, but you can't expect him to cook great biryani.
This movie is an total let down by Manirathnam and ARR.
Please re-release this one has Thamizh Padam-3 which makes more sense.
Sarpatta Parambarai (2021)
1st first - aggressive, 2nd half - draaagggg
To me the movie was over in the 1st half itself. 2nd half gets too filmy and it was unlike a Pa Ranjith movie.
Dancing Rose and John Vijay are the stand-out characters.
Sherni (2021)
Human being dominant species is not responsible
Human being dominant species is not responsible and least bothered about the eco system.
The Family Man (2019)
The Family Man - Aptly named
First of the title- what better name they could've thought than this one as this one equally deals with family matters & work-life with 'national security' being the core of the story.
Though in the 1st season I thought this is yet another parody of Sacred Games, but the 2nd season proved it all wrong. It's an series of its kind.
What an beautiful blend of cultures without compromising it's true flavour (me being tamilian) I felt like I'm watching a tamil flick, it's so originally captured. Also the srilankan tamil movements are carefully handled and eelam tamil was a treat to ears.
So surprised to see Season-2 outclassed Season-1 as this one was more gripping and intense.
One last thing, how in the world are the grass dumps are blocking the bullets (final episode of S-2) 😂😂😂
Waiting for Season-3 already.
Kumbalangi Nights (2019)
A pleasant boat ride in the backwaters of Kochi
I just didn't wanted this movie to end at all. Its so refreshing and pleasant to watch, feel like watching it forever.
Every character plays their role to perfection and the way the story develops is exceptional showcase of matured movie making.
FF seems to have a thing for psycho roles and he does it with ultimate joy and perfection.
Anna Ben is super cute.
BG needs a special mention.
Malayalam movies have a way to connect with their audience.
Thappad (2020)
The movie stopped right after one thappad
Frankly I wanted to like this movie but couldn't. Something's lacking, seems Tapsee role is an desperate attempt to look sad and the reason for life taking an u-turn is not solid enough (no, I am not justifying that the assault is right, I disapprove it for sure)
I understand if she is going to be upset for a few days and disturbed. The script could have been even more deep when the storyteller as decided to speak of women's right. The movie decided to stop right there after one thappad and refused to proceed (it was all only after effects).
Frankly I thought the thappad thing lead to another and another to another but no it stopped right there.
The husband role is self-centric and doesn't care or understand his wife's emotions, is the only reason what I see gives some weightage to the divorce, otherwise it looks all lame.
Why does all women-centric movies should showcase men are total freaks I am yet to understand that myth.
There's been better women-centric movies. I'd give this one a pass.
La casa de papel (2017)
Money Heist - its noob watcher's dream series
It started well and ended up having too many loose ends.
Too much of a drag, its not crisp.
Are the makers only interested in making as many episodes as possible.
Pariyerum Perumal (2018)
Brutally Honest
Ok, first of all when I came to know Pa. Ranjith is the producer I knew this movie is going to be dealt on a very delicate subject.
The Characters - 10/10
Pariya's father scores over everyone in a role that not more than 10 mins.
Karupi simply stole everyone's heart.
Yogi Babu is maturing movie by movie. Kudos to the team for casting a perfect 10.
The Story - 8/10
Tightly packed and scripted well.
Like I said its a very delicate subject.
I dont want to go more into this which will end up in spoilers
One set of audience will have to watch this movie with a bit of guilt and will feel a lump in the throat.
When the verdict on section 377 was out and entire country welcomed with a sigh of relief, I had this thought that my country is still not sorted the caste and religion complex and we are celebrating section 377 which is an irony.
This movie hit the bulls-eye.
Kudos to the team and you can feel proud.
Aruvi (2016)
Aditi Balan lives the Director's extraordinary dream.
A movie that is perfectly written and portrayed by the lead lady.
What worked in the movie is that..... bloody everything worked.... no doubt about it.
The movie has its light moments, dark moments, fun side, food for thought and lastly tearful moments.
A world filled with wolves and foxes. The TV channel section was an Bulls Eye by the director, top notch.
We all are responsible directly or indirectly for the state of the society we live in and trust me its very ugly.
Take a bow - Director & Aditi.
Aayirathil Oruvan (2010)
Outstanding thought............... but not picture perfect
First of all hats off to the brave attempt by the young director and really an intelligent work to build a script based on the Cholas and the Pandians.
This is definitely a first of its kind in India Cinema and let's be proud for it.............. so what if the movie did not turned to be a picture perfect (those who are here to comment on these kinda new attempts, please go watch Avatar), movies of these kind needs to be promoted so that such kinda brave attempts will be taken in future. Am not ready to still sit and watch the same heroic movies with a intro song, fight and romance the heroines and finally fight for love............... We need a break and here is the one. I was quite amazed by the dasavatharam script which was derived from history (Chola king removing the statue of lord Vishnu and the lord bought Tsumani to save the whole world, outstanding thought). This script is one such idea....Keep going selva.
The movie has a wonderful first off and the second half is more of a surprise, I feel the movie should not have had so much of depth and concluded the movie in a way our Indian movie watchers find it hard to digest (we need happy ending), but its seeded well for a AO- part2.
Naan Kadavul (2009)
A master piece made by the legend in the making
Well I should say that I am just not a movie goer, but a movie analyzer. And it takes a lot of things for me to be impressed by an movie. This master piece made by the legend in the making (BALA)is far away from words. This is pure brilliance and will surely get a place in the world cinema. I don't care if the movie did well or not in the box office
Two extremists (one of the Agori and the other is of the beggar's life)of our social world, made to meet each other at a point in the movie which mesmerizes the movie watcher. This is not a formula movie flick and will not satisfy every audience, but whoever want to see a movie that is beyond a normal one, here it is
The way in which Arya's charactered is been told him to do
The life in the back ground music given by our Illayaraja
And each and every character told in the movie itself is an art
The hero is clearly none other than the director of the movie. My rating is 8/10
Dasavatharam (2008)
Dasavatharam - For Next Generation
On a whole, its a movie which stands apart!! Do not go by the reviews and come to a perception. All I suggest is that go watch yourself (in a Dolby surround theater) and rate it.
Hats off to the concept................ those who didn't like, what more are you looking for, definitely U'll not have an answer.
One of the world's biggest tragedies is TSUMANI (26th Dec 04).......... Kamal has utilized this major incident to a great extent and built a story.................. My salutes to you Mr. Kamal. Showing such a tragic incident as a positive point even though it took thousand's life, is not a layman's height of thinking.
Engaging 10 kamal characters in a 70mm screen is not very simple SCREENPLAY job, professionals will know how much of hard work and the depth of knowledge kamal has put in.
About the 10 characters, it is not the make-up, but its the body language, dialogue delivery etc etc what he shows onto each individual character is immense and he lived the role (the Balram Naidu and the Poovaragan character can challenge any actor in the world to match it)............. now that is what is called home work.
And the country (India) which we live in is so sensitive to religion and god............ The lord Vishnu (Perumal) is controversially utilized to the best of the best (both in 12th and the 21st century)
Definitely this movie has Up's and Downs................ but u can't have a picture perfect when u deal with 10 characters. U'll compromise all the negatives for the best effort of kamal (10 characters, story concept, screenplay and dialogs)
Mr.Director - We have so many talented music directors in Tamil Film Industry, why not use them. Say for example Yuvan Shankar Raja isn't he giving best music.......... he has so much to prove, give him a chance!!
This movie is been well received worldwide than in India (Indian movie buff's, let's shift gear for the next generation movies............... for which we need person's like Kamal in India) I watched this twice and was more convinced with the concept the second time. Go watch this movie if U still haven't................ a treat is waiting for U 8/10 – Must Watch
