Sex Ed (2014)
Shoulda, Coulda, Didn't
This movie tried to make lessons on sex education funny, entertaining, and yet meaningful. But alls we really got was a bunch of kids who only knew what the internet and TV told them and by the end of the film we were left with the full understanding that these kids still have no clue about the real world.
The film had an opportunity to leave a lesson (even if it were the wrong lesson) but this film leaves us with nothing. And if a teacher is still a virgin then he should be a student of sex ed himself.
To top it off he has an opportunity to have sex with a really hot Latina towards the end, and while it is not required that he does, the ended of "Im cool just as I am" comes off extremely cheesy.
I had a hard time deciding if this film was for adults or trouble-some children.
Poor script, poor directing, poor taste. Sorry

How much raw is too much?
This film is raw, real, honest and scary. Films aren't made like this because it causes people to look deep within themselves and consider the part all have played in such a horrible event. Many don't want to look at events this morbid. Yet its truthful.
The film tells the truth, but I think it goes too far. The amount of gross nudity, and the enjoyment of such was just disturbing. While I know it may be the truth, a truth that does need to be addressed it is still very uncomfortable, and yet I think it is a discomfort that some people need to visit. For me I already knew these stories that covered slavery so I didn't necessarily need the added imagery. But still this film is a powerful telling of harsh truth.
I am polarized by how to score this film. disturbingly truthful and honest is all I can think of....
Friday Night Lights (2006)
It can change your life
This is a show that is not only about football, but it is about the struggles of youth, family, relationships, and faith in a small town of Texas where few ever really make it out. When I look for a film, TV show, or book Im looking for something that is going to change my life. Its been a few years since that has happened but I can finally say I have found something that has done that again. Powerful stories, awkward at times but incredible at times acting, and powerful yet entertaining lessons.
Strongest performances by Kyle Chandler, Taylor Kitsch, Scott Porter, and Brad Leland. Jesse Plemons, Connie Britton, Adrianne Palicki, Louanne Stephens, Minka Kelly and Derek Phillips round out the show nicely.
But it is not just what we see but it is the music we hear, the things we assume about each situation, and the little prayers we pray throughout each episode for our characters that truly makes this show one of the ALL-TIME GREATS...
I would have liked to see the 5th season tie-in the whole show a little bit better. What happened to all the people we fell in love with in the first 2 seasons? I wish that would have shaped out a little better.
But still one of the most touching shows I've ever seen.
