DNA (2019)
Unbelievable!
I started watching - and enjoying this - until well into Episode One and then it became utterly farcical! The detective, on the trail of a kidnapped child, decides to take his own baby daughter with him on a storm tossed ferry ride to Poland. Amazingly, while he is in the Gents honking his guts up (and the baby is outside in a buggy on the rain lashed deck) she is stolen. Who'd a thunk it??? To add insult to injury, he is accompanied by the forensics expert from his local station and whose baby-loving wife would have been more than happy to take care of the baby while they were away.
Such stupidity doesn't even merit the two stars I have given it!
Gimme Gimme Gimme (1999)
More please!
I must agree with the majority of the reviews on here in that "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" is absolutely over the top in its vulgarity, foul language and general crudeness ............. but it is SO funny! Both leads are just perfect - Kathy Burke in particular. I am especially fond of her numerous references to "Mummy". The very accomplished actress who plays Beryl adds much to every episode she appears in, quite unlike her marvellous Contessa de Faraglione in Mapp and Lucia.
However, I found the supposedly funny neighbours, Jez and Suze, to be stupidly irritating and an unnecessary addition to an otherwise excellent cast.
Hotel Portofino (2022)
Every cliché in the book 😑
I'm obviously in the minority, but I think this really should have been kept for topping the bill on Comic Relief. The scenery is gorgeous - and that's it. The acting leaves much to be desired, very village am-dram, especially the usually excellent Anna Chancellor channeling her inner Lady Bracknell, her 'niece' totally overdoing the giddy teenager and the over posh acting of 'Lady Drummond West.' In general, it reminds me of 'Acorn Antiques', but it's actually (although unintentionally) funnier. Victoria Wood and Julie Walters would be right at home in this cardboard hotel. But fear not, it ticks the diversity boxes very nicely if not accurately.
The Pale Blue Eye (2022)
Oh dear!
Such a disappointment. I really can't understand why there are so many 10 out of 10 reviews for this overlong piece of pretentious, overacted twaddle. Undoubtedly the cast is a talented one, but there is just so much to moan about, from the inappropriate Southern drawl of Harry Melling to the constant whispering of Christian Bale. It could - and would - have benefited from being (at least) half an hour shorter. I can only be glad that I didn't waste the time or money on viewing this at the cinema.
(Only plus marks which could be given would be for the snow covered scenery, so, well done God.)
The Handmaid's Tale: Morning (2022)
Bum numbingly bad
What a disappointment! I thoroughly enjoyed the first series of The Handmaid's Tail but found subsequent series to be less addictive. This, however, takes the biscuit. It is a masterpiece of overacting, "clever" camera work, whispering emoting and general daftness. As my mother used to say: "They're giving you more than they've got" - and believe me, they don't have a lot. Had set my recorder to record all ten episodes but have now cancelled. Them as it is so bad. All those responsible should have given up when they were winning as this is embarrassingly bad.
Definitely a case of not knowing when less is more.
The Witchfinder (2022)
Staggeringly unfunny
But full marks for typical BBC box ticking. Switched off after 15 minutes and have cancelled series link.
Embarrassingly bad and not even worthy of the default one star.
Entebbe (2018)
How To Ruin A Good Picture
The "dancing" was ridiculous and unnecessary, particularly in the final fifteen minutes. Quite spoiled it for me - and from reading these reviews - many others.
A Lonely Place to Die (2011)
A game of two halves
A decent first hour and then a magnificent nose dive into a deep pool of BS. So ridiculous that it's actually watchable for all the wrong reasons! 🤡
(And as for the ludicrous Beltane festival with a plethora of Home Counties luvvies cavorting about in the scud .....,.. words fail me 😖)
Scot Squad: Episode #7.1 (2022)
Very disappointing
Not a patch on previous series. There are too many new (and not particularly funny characters) and the magnificent Bobby is missing. Doubt I'll be watching it again.
The Small Hand (2019)
Dross.
Absolute dross. Don't know how I can stretch this review to150 characters. All I can say/repeat is "dross". Not even in the 'so bad it's good' category. A waste of two hours.
Dalziel and Pascoe: Demons on Our Shoulders: Part 1 (2007)
Rubbish
Pure and simple - rubbish which doesn't even deserve my score of 1! Had to keep watching it to see if it could possibly get any worse, and it did. A total embarrassment.
The Pursuit of Love (2021)
A travesty 😖
Dire. Simply dire. Nancy Mitford must be spinning in her grave.
The Singapore Grip (2020)
Dire. Absolutely dire.
Words fail me, except to say don't waste a precious hour of your life watching this dross.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Pretentious rubbish
Not even worth one star. Trying too hard and failing miserably. Seemed like a very cheap Goodfellas wannabe, but Adam Sandler is NO Joe Pesci. Avoid!
Late Flowering Lust (1994)
Golden days
A wonderful production combining Betjeman's poetry, dance and glorious scenery of an England long gone.
Svartsjön (2016)
Don't waste your time.
The daftest "thriller" it's been my misfortune to watch for a long time. Having said that, it was SO awful I had to keep watching 😆
