Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Seen it three times, loved it each time
People say this movie is really bad. Well I've been a huge Star Wars fan since 1996. When it comes to the original trilogy, I still prefer the original versions over the so called "Special Edition". I'm not that crazy over the prequels, although Revenge of the Sith was by far the best of those three movies. At first I was skeptical over Disney making new Star Wars movies, I thought they would end up being big disappointments. I was very wrong, when I saw Force Awakens, it blew me away, it felt great seeing old faces and being introduced to new, likable and mature characters who are willing to learn. No arrogance at all in these characters, something that Anakin Skywalker had a lot of in the prequels. As for the Last Jedi, there are some parts that are questionable, but this movie still kicks so much butt that it makes you forget it. The characters have so much personality, the story has so much drama and suspense, the CGI is outstanding and has so much action. I'm sorry people who hate this movie, but this movie is outstanding. I think if you're going to give a movie a 1 out of 10, that means you are comparing it to something like Manos: The Hands of Fate and that's very unfair. Movies should only get a 1 out of 10 score if they are not only abysmal, but they are also offensive and would have a horrible influence on the youth. I love The Last Jedi and I feel like 9 out of 10 is the right score for it. The good does definitely outweigh the bad and it's easily one of the best movies in 2017. I cannot wait until this movie comes out on Blu-ray and I'm really excited for Episode IX. I also want to wish Carrie Fisher a peaceful afterlife. She may be gone, but she is now a part of the force and will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Princess Carrie.
The Birth of a Nation (1915)
Yes it's racist, but it's also groundbreaking and influential
I can completely understand your frustration with this movie. It's no secret that it's a racist film and did result in the revival of the KKK. But you have to understand what life was like back then. In 1915, nobody had ever seen a movie like this. Not just in terms of production, but in terms of editing, length, casting and attention to detail. It was the first time in history where a ton of effort was ever put into a motion picture. When "The Birth of a Nation" came out, people began to take film much more seriously and wanted to see more high quality movies when it was brand new.
As for the racism, it was sadly a product of its time, but that's not to say people didn't find it offensive in 1915. Plenty of African Americans were outraged over this movie and tried to have it banned. The KKK would even use this film as a recruitment tool up until the 1970's, although this wasn't the intention of its director D. W. Griffith. He probably had no idea that people would be outraged over this movie, but I don't think he intentionally tried to offend a lot of people, he just wanted to make a movie that people would remember and hoped to impress as well as shock. He did just that, Birth of a Nation is certainly impressive and shocking.
It is offensive by today's standards and obviously a movie you could not make today. But I do believe in freedom of speech and freedom of expression and I don't believe in censorship. This film should be shown in all film classes so we can not only understand how the first big budget film was made, but to understand what racism was like in 1915. I am strongly against banning this movie because it's essentially the same as pretending the racial prejudices never existed, but the views expressed in this movie does not represent me as a person. I only appreciate the art and attention to detail that was put into this movie. It is nothing short of groundbreaking and way ahead of its time regardless of it being the most politically incorrect movie in history. You should definitely watch the movie as long as you are prepared to be shocked and see film history.

Patch Adams (1998)
I'm sorry, medicine is the best medicine, not laughter
If Good Will Hunting is Robin Williams best movie, then Patch Adams is his worst. I can't even begin to explain how this movie is not only bad, cliché, but also very offensive. The real Patch Adams hated this movie and he still took his job very seriously. He never opened up his own hospital without a medical license. He did cheer kids up, but he still acted like a professional and still knew that laughter won't cure an illness, only medicine can do that. Laughter is not the best medicine, medicine is the best medicine. Laughter will only distract you from the illness you have, but it won't cure you, any doctor will tell you that. What's most offensive of all is that Patch Adam had a friend who was murdered, in real life, it was a man, but in the movie, it was a female love interest. The cheap way to create a love interest for Patch Adams was offensive to both me and the real Patch Adams. The real Patch Adams is a great man and this movie does nothing but make him look like a clown. If I have to trust my life in the hands of a real doctor or the clown portrayed in this movie, I'm sorry, I'm trusting the doctor.
Ghostbusters (2016)
I'm a man and this movie was actually pretty good
I'm not the first one to admit that there are a lot of spam voters on IMDb.com. If they hear about a movie they don't like, they will automatically fly to the film's page on IMDb.com and give it 1 out of 10 scores without actually seeing the movie. I admit, I was a bit skeptical of the trailers for Ghostbusters (2016), they clearly didn't show the highlights of the movie in the trailer, but the full movie was much better than the trailer and that might have cost the movie the reputation it deserved. As a man, I obviously have nothing against a female cast, let's be honest, the original cast is too old to return and one of the original Ghostbusters passed away so there's never going to be a new movie featuring them as the lead. What I really love about this movie is that the women actually have a lot of chemistry, they seem to be very close friends in real life. They actually had more chemistry than the original Ghostbusters and to me that is very important, I love interesting characters.
Although there are some flat jokes, most of them are pretty funny. People seem to forget that the original Ghostbusters had its funny moments and the new movie tries hard to give us a few laughs. I will admit that the film isn't as good as the original, but it's definitely worth watching and you should ignore the haters of the movie. Most of the people on this website who voted a score of 1 out of 10 for this movie were men and I bet none of them saw the movie. You have to provide a lot of reasons why you think the movie deserves an abysmal score like that.
Give this movie a chance, don't hate on it because the leads are women or because it doesn't have the original crew. I am a huge fan of the Angry Video Game Nerd and have a lot of respect for James Rolfe. But this is one of the few times he was wrong, he should definitely watch this movie if he hasn't already seen it. I know he doesn't hate the movie because of the female leads, he hated it because the trailer wasn't as impressive as the movie. A first impression is very important and that cost the movie from earning hundreds of millions more.
But seriously, just give the film a chance and you won't be disappointed.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
Pretty Lame
The Harry Potter franchise will only be remembered for its novels, the movies are horrible compared to the books. The sixth book was way too much different from the movie. The acting and movies were horrible once again. Snape and Malfoy in the book hated Harry Potter much more in the book than the movie. Characters that should have played a big role in the film should have been: the new Minstry of Magic (but he isn't seen or mentioned in the film). Romlinda Vane allows appears in one scene, and doesn't play a big role at all. Why does Tonks look so different, the werewolf played a much smaller role than the book (he doesn't even speak in the film). Some of the stuff in this film should have been rated PG-13, like when Harry Potter used the Sectumsempra spell on Malfoy. Slughorn in the flashbacks doesn't look any younger than the present time. Pretty sloppy acting, lines, and directing. I wouldn't waste your time seeing this. The book is much more interesting.
Aliens (1986)
One Alien was bad enough
The first movie was extremely good, then I heard that the sequel was almost just as good or even better. In the first movie, there was one alien, in the next one: there is hundreds of them. I had no idea how Aliens was better than Alien, because I don't think that many sequels become this good. Well, I had no idea how the second Godfather would be so good when I thought the first one was good enough. I write books and I already said to myself I will not make any sequels for my books because most sequels never turn out to be better than the first. I clearly underestimated how good this movie would, it was much better than I expected, same with the Godfather Part II. I am now in love with the first and second Alien movies. Good title, they don't call the movie: Alien 2, just Aliens meaning more than one. In my opinion Ripley is the best female ass kicker in all of movies. The acting is very good in this movie, the special effects are very good, intense action, scary, and extremely powerful. In my opinion the second best Sci-fi sequel behind The Empire Strikes Back.
Alien (1979)
Loved It Right Away!
I don't know that many Sci-Fi pictures that are more like a horror movie. This movie was absolutely scary, some very memorable scenes, two great actresses, one realistic alien, great effects for its time, awesome storyline. In parts of the scene, when the character faces one problem, they get into a bigger problem, then again, etc. This is probably the best Sci-Fi movie of all time (behind Star Wars). I would definitely recommend this movie for any sci-fi, horror, or even movie fan. You would be absolutely blown away by this movie, so blown away you'll think a giant vacuum is trying to suck you out of your house. ENJOY IT!
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
Absolutely Incredible
This movie is absolutely incredible, you won't be educated in movies if you never seen this movie. One of the three movies to win all five major academy awards for best actor in lead role, best actress in lead role, best picture, best screenplay, and best directing. I'm in love with this movie, the same way a lot of people are in love with Pet Sounds after they heard it a few times. The movie is different than the book, but it is still very good. This movie has some of the greatest acting (if not the greatest) ever in a movie. This movie features two of the greatest villains ever in a movie. Randle Patrick McMurphy is the main character, but I don't know if he is considered an enemy because he is the main character. Nurse Ratched is definitely the most evil female villain in all of movies.
I don't care if this movie is from the 1970's, you must absolutely see this movie. I promise you, you won't regret it! I'm going to buy this movie on Blu-Ray even though I got the DVD. The thing I don't like (it has nothing to do with the movie) is that the DVD is double sided, and in a bad case. But regardless, this movie is absolutely incredible! You must see it, it's (in my opinion, and a lot of other peoples) the greatest movie ever.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Very Terrifying
This movie had scared the bejebus out of my sister. But I'm mad that I haven't seen this movie a lot sooner than last year when I was 17. I wish I seen this movie when I was like 10, I just loved horror. But then again, this movie isn't a horror movie, it's more of a psychological thriller. This is hands down the most terrifying thriller of all time, I wouldn't recommend than young teenage girls (if you're brave enough) see this movie because it might scare you. But nevertheless, this is a great movie.
Swept all five major academy awards for best actor in a lead role, best actress in a lead role, best picture, best screenplay, and best directing. Jodie Foster performance in this movie is incredible, especially near the ending (she's been doing it since she was a kid). Anthony Hopkins performance is so good that is can scare you. Two of the most horrifying villains are in this movie: Hannibal Lector and Buffalo Bill.
If you like a good thriller, this movie is for you. Even some of the things the characters said in the movie really gave me nightmares. You will be terrified of this movie, I can guarantee it!
You must see this movie.
12 Angry Men (1957)
A Classic!
I actually learned a bit more about what it's like to be a jury from this movie. I've only seen this movie twice and they were both for a school project. I had to read the book and watch the movie, I was assigned jurors, although I got the ones who don't talk very much. It was pretty fun to do it twice. I do love to watch TruTV, I learned a lot what it takes to convict somebody, especially in a murder case. It be nice if there was a job to be a juror full time, instead of asking random people to do it, and they don't even get paid that much either to be a juror. To anybody who likes to watch crime or cop shows, this is a true movie for you!
